To wish The Body Shop were back in all its 1970s glory?

Honestly, all the earlier talk about baths has got me going. I've got Bayliss and Harding strawberry and pomegranate shower soap but it's not Body Shop strawberry body wash with sea salt. Oh, how I miss the multifarious bath gunges they used to do.

Ah dewberry body spray and bath pearls. Those were the days.

MadisonAvenue · 19/04/2016 22:40

I used to love the Banana shampoo and conditioner, and Dewberry perfume. There was a liquorice bubble bath in the children's range which was lovely too. I used to buy loads from there, and pick a selection of items for gifts and the staff would make up a gift basket - remember that?

I still sometimes buy White Musk perfume but it seems so expensive now for what used to be pretty much a pocket money perfume for teens.

I also used to love Lush's predecessor Cosmetics To Go, I loved getting parcels from them.

katienana · 19/04/2016 22:40

Satsuma bubble bath. Bath pearls, a highlight of a gift basket that contained a sponge, soap, body lotion and a shower gel. The whole thing wrapped in cling film.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 19/04/2016 22:43

My gran used to buy me the little wicker baskets with shredded crepe paper in them, with the little bottles of bath/shower gel and hundreds of bath pearls. They used to do a children's range - the cola bath bubbles were delish.

Footle · 19/04/2016 22:44

One of the few perfumes I've ever liked was their .. Tobacco ? Tabac ?

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 19/04/2016 22:49

Cosmetics to Go - had forgotten rhat was Lush's old name!
Bodyshop is so irritatingly salesy now, you can't walk in and just browse without being pounced upon. It's like being in Las Vegas.

WittgensteinsBunny · 19/04/2016 22:50

Ahh! My late-90s Saturday job. Loved the vit E range, cucumber water toner, morello cherry lip balm, vanilla body lotion, bath pearls, the body butters...... This thread has taken me right back! My heart actually broke a little bit with the L'oreal take over Sad

kitnkaboodle · 19/04/2016 22:53

Our local one always seems empty Shock if I had shares in the company I'd be worried right now ...

hefzi · 19/04/2016 23:09

I used to buy a lot from them - but when it was sold to L'Oreal, with the associated animal testing so they could access the Chinese market: nah - not for me any more.

spankhurst · 19/04/2016 23:19

They did a coconut oil shampoo that smelled gorgeous. Rose musk perfume oil. Henna. Blackhead extractors. Bath pearls..

BikeRunSki · 19/04/2016 23:24

Banana conditioner was amazing on my hair.

They lost their way-ethically and in their products - big time after Anita Roddick died and they sold out to L'Oreal.

Janecc · 19/04/2016 23:27

I worked there for a time. Loved it. Went home stinking of perfume oils. The product information manual. Now that was something. Dewberry shampoo and conditioner, henna wax, making up the baskets and helping customers to choose gifts inside, aromatherapy scalp oil.... These were all really good quality products. Those were the days when you could get your bottles refilled. Not mass produced and impersonal. What about patchouli perfume - didn't like it myself. And not owned by Yves Rocher!

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meGoes · 19/04/2016 23:31

I suspect the shops are empty because of the heavy online discounting. I go in occasionally to try things before ordering them. But I mainly buy from Lush now.

I shared a flat in the 80s with someone that used to drench herself in White Musk, I cannot bear it to this day. Fuzzy Peach was my fragrance of choice.

edwardsmum11 · 19/04/2016 23:32

I only buy when they have a very good discount code that you can use on the sale stuff and stock up then. Personally I miss their kids range they had in 90s.

PonderingProsecco · 19/04/2016 23:35

Not been in for years.
Late 80s= banana shampoo and pineapple face wash [creamy stuff].
Liked the transparenty fruit soaps.
Was there an ocean perfume?
Dipped into dewberry and white musk.
Also liked body butters.
Memories!
Oh yes- the lip balms- heaven....

Titsywoo · 19/04/2016 23:36

I used to love going in and smelling the different coloured soaps. Their strawberry lipbalm in the 90's was the scent of my youth. I loved Cosmetics to Go! Loved getting the catalogue - so much cool stuff, lush just isn't the same. I loved the mint choc chip face mask!

SuburbanRhonda · 19/04/2016 23:38

Cosmetics to go used to make a perfume called Ginger that I wore throughout the 1980s (smelled of ginger unsurprisingly) and they've just stopped making it forever! I could weep. It was the most amazing smell.

liinyo · 19/04/2016 23:42

Someone bought me a massive gift basket of strawberry scented stuff. It was gorgeous and my first experience of an allergic reaction Sad.

Does anyone remember the fragrance bar? It looked beautiful- rows of engraved glass bottles containing scented oils that could fragrance plain purchases I think. Possibly the most glamorous thing my 17 year old self had ever seen.

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meGoes · 19/04/2016 23:53

Yes, loved the fragrance bar and thetiny frosted bottles with a tiny dipper you hot to take them home in. Japanese Musk was my favourite from there.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 20/04/2016 00:03

Thing is, it was Anita Roddick who sold the BS to L'Oreal in 2006, for £652m. She claimed she could trust them and saw herself as a kind of Trojan horse figure changing things from the inside out, according to an interview in the Guardian. Maybe she would have, if she hadn't died the next year.

scarlets · 20/04/2016 00:18

They'd make a fortune from a retro /nostalgia range aimed at 30y+ women.

The banana hair stuff was lovely and gave me glossy TV ad hair. White Musk was popular with the girls at my school. I was given the satsuma bath oil as a Secret Santa gift and loved it. Kiwi lip balm was my absolute favourite.

RainbowDashian · 20/04/2016 00:41

I ordered some shampoo/conditioner from them recently and I'm sure there was banana ones on the website.
I remember my mother loved Dewberry stuff (and one beginning with A?)and I think I had a "magic" expanding flannel from there as a child and bath pearls.

I always thought of it as being inexpensive, ethical and fun but it doesn't seem to be any of those now. I'm not really old enough to remember it properly though.

WrenNatsworthy · 20/04/2016 00:47

Body Shop was amazing. The perfume bar - primrose was my favourite - the soaps - the low-fi green stickers on the bottles.
L'Oreal sucked the heart and ethics out of it.

Modern day equivalent is Neal's Yard, but much more pricey!

MadisonAvenue · 20/04/2016 01:45

Rainbow would it be Ananya?

iminshock · 20/04/2016 02:02

It used to be cheap and all about reducing waste and stuff.
Not any more. It's flashy and expensive. I don't go near it
