to be fed up with being shouted at by someone who is in the wrong

Walking home from school tonight with DD (9) I was crossing a side road and a car turned in from the main road. The driver seemed to expect me to stop in the middle of the road to wait for her to go past. When I didn't she started screaming at me and gesturing. I shouted back at her that pedestrians have priority but she was too busy ranting.

The same thing happened a couple of weeks ago on a different side road.

Both women drivers and both times they weren't in sight when I started to cross.

I'm a driver, and well aware of the instruction in the Highway code to watch out for pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turning. If they have started to cross they have priority, so give way., which I always do.

Bad enough that they aren't aware of the Highway code, without having a go as well. I do wonder how many people have actually passed their test TBH.

A van driver drove fast across the pavement inches from me and my DS to get to a car park (pavement went across the entrance IYKWIM) I was ON the pavement, surely I had right of way?? I followed him to where he parked and was less than polite. Luckily he was contrite. So then I felt guilty for shouting! Grin

Some drivers are morons! I turned into a road today to be met by a DPD van driving down the wrong side of the road who proceeded to yell at me for being in his way!

Write their number plates down and report them to the police. They need to be cautioned before they kill someone.

This happens all the time near us. There is a side road off a busy main road and people use it as a cut-through. Lots of drivers tend to indicate literally just as they are turning which gives pedestrians no warning at all. You can stand there for aaaaages waiting to cross. Once I was waiting to cross next to a very smart, elderly woman - at least in her 80s. She turned to me and said: "I wish these bastards would bloody well indicate..." which made me laugh. She was right!

Good luck with that - I tried it once - the Police couldn't have been less interested.

If she got arsey then she has her own issues, it's nothing to do with you, you were just there. Clearly this women was out of order, but you never know what's going on in people's lives that makes them behave in the way they do, just try and forget about it.
