Ive just been told off by my DM for saying 'fuck' on Facebook in the context of 'thank fuck for that', because she knows people who are on my Facebook friends list. My mum is a friend on Facebook too.

AIBU to think at the age of 34 I should be able to say a couple of swearwords on Facebook?

Oh yeah, in all my jobs the bosses have sworn lots - mostly they've been kitchen jobs so no surprise, but I've met many professional people who don't give a fuck about swearing and I doubt it would be an issue for any potential employer of mine.

Potato

I am a doctor, a head of a large dept, and I swear like a fucking trooper, including on FB. This does not make me a bad or unprofessional doctor.

Left FB years ago but when I was on it, I grouped 'friends' into family, friends, collections, and shared my status with one or more groups.

I'm a teacher, so have my social media privacy settings sewn up tighter than a gnat's arsehole. Facebook locked down - you can't even find me if you search my (unusual) name. Not that I'm posting about the kids anyway, because that would be unprofessional, but you don't want the parents trying to friend you! Never access social media from work computers or on work WiFi. No one at work ever knows my username, and if anyone wants to friend me on facebook I might pretend I don't have it.

I did get into trouble in an old, non-teaching job posting on a forum like this at home about how I hated my job. I didn't identify the company or anything. It was anonymous but I stupidly posted on (unrelated) threads on the same board from work and someone then looked up other posts and found my bitchy ones. I never dreamed that someone in IT would a) bother to investigate what exactly I was posting at lunchtimes, and b) look up all the other things I'd posted at home! But I was young Blush
