To tell a friend to sit somewhere else

We've had a family season ticket for our football club for the last few years. We've taken DC's friend for the odd birthday treat & their family has tended to come along as well and go to a few other matches. Now it's season ticket renewal time & the other family are muttering about getting one for themselves.

AIBU to ask them not to get the free seats immediately next to us if they decide to go ahead? Although I'm friends with the mum & our DC are friends, we don't socialise together as families. We tend to take other family & friends with us regularly, which having them next to us would hinder. Most importantly, we love going to matches as a family, spending time with each other and chatting about stuff, and having them alongside us would cramp that. If I'm NBU, how can I say to go ahead and get a season ticket if you want to, just not next to us?

You can't! It's horrifically unreasonable!

Pico2 · 17/04/2016 19:08

YANBU, but I don't know how you'd do it. It might be easier to move where you sit.

MyKingdomForBrie · 17/04/2016 19:09

You can't say that I don't think. Can you wait and see what seats they get then ask to move if you need to? Just tell them you got reallocated you're not sure why...

LouLouLockets · 17/04/2016 19:09

Well, they wouldn't talk to you again, so it would solve that problem Hmm

fastdaytears · 17/04/2016 19:09

I'm not sure they need your permission to get a season ticket or to get the seats next to you. I can't think of a way of telling them not to without causing a massive falling out.

They might choose to get their seats somewhere different though for the same reasons as you

bornwithaplasticspoon · 17/04/2016 19:09

They can sit where they like so YABU.

icanteven · 17/04/2016 19:10

There's simply no way of doing it without coming across as utterly awful.

With any luck, they are thinking exactly the same thing though. You could possibly email them to say something "a tip for when you book seats - we've notice that the best seats are XXXXX (i.e. miles away from you) - totally great view from there (or whatever)" but even that would be a bit weird.

SavoyCabbage · 17/04/2016 19:11

You would be unreasonable to say 'you can get a season ticket if you want to but not next to us' without expecting some sort of fall out. So it depends what matters to you I suppose.

Can you move yours next season without mentioning it?

gamerchick · 17/04/2016 19:12

You can't do that man!

Can you not let them get theirs first, find out their seat numbers and book somewhere else?

*no idea how it works

cuntycowfacemonkey · 17/04/2016 19:12

I would feel the same and currently have a very similar issue (more holiday related though) and have no idea how to politely put it!

gamerchick · 17/04/2016 19:12

Xpost

SoupDragon · 17/04/2016 19:13

Well, I guess that depends whether you are horrendously rude and entitled... If you are, sure go ahead. If you are a normal human being, don't.

OSETmum · 17/04/2016 19:14

No you really can't do that. What would you say?!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/04/2016 19:14

Are you for real?!!!

xvxvxvxvxvxvxvxv · 17/04/2016 19:16

No you can't. Unless you buy those ones too to keep them free, tough!

Itinerary · 17/04/2016 19:16

YABU

Stickerrocks · 17/04/2016 19:17

We automatically have to renew in the same place, so we can't move. It is very like the holiday situation, but for months at a time, festering away, as there is likely to be a big personality clash if they do book next to us. They're also the sort of people who would be picky if we booked extra seats at any time for other family members and would refuse to shuffle round, because they were in "their" seats, leaving an odd person on the end.

wannabehippyandcrazycatlover · 17/04/2016 19:17

You absolutely cannot tell them not to get the seats next to you without being seen as, to put it bluntly, a bit of a bellend.

However, I totally understand your reasons and so why don't you move seats and don't tell them?

SmokingGun · 17/04/2016 19:17

To be honest, I'd rather have someone sit next to me that a vaguely knew that were polite, etc than some random people. Group of 4 lads that sit in front of us are horrendous, always starting fights, etc. God knows how they still have their tickets. I'm desperately hoping they don't renew this year now we have dropped into the championship cos I do love my seats.

ScarletForYa · 17/04/2016 19:18

What?

Confused
MajesticSeaFlapFlap · 17/04/2016 19:18

You cant decide what seats some one else gets

SmokingGun · 17/04/2016 19:19

Just seen your last post, is it a premier league team? I have never ever heard of not being able to change your seats before? We get the choice every season, our normal seats are held for until a certain date if we want to stay put Confused

PoppieD · 17/04/2016 19:20

How can they change their seats but you can't? (Genuinely confused!)

Ciggaretteandsmirnoff · 17/04/2016 19:21

Ha ha ha ha some people have the cheek of ten arses 😂😂😂😂😂

Oh please tell them op then teport straight back to us with what they say how they tell you to fuck off Grin

Brilliant

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 17/04/2016 19:22

Do the seats next to you have your family's name on.
Didn't think so. Therefore.
YABU.
You sound like a 12 year old mean girl. You can't sit with us.
