To wonder why nursery needs to see ds's red book?

Message from nursery today that according to ofsted guidelines they NEED to see he children's red books.
This is apparently so they can 'ensure your child's needs are fully met and to ensure that your child has the best possible chance of meeting their full potential'

I've got nothing to hide but there is quite a lot of my personal information in there-breastfeeding issues etc and I'm not sure I want to share that level of information!

Has anyone else had this request?

Lukesme is right, it is a blatant lie. If they legally need the info then there will be a system by which they get it from the NHS. Relying on a parent to keep a paper record safe and up to date through early parenthood to give to a care provider years on would be loopy.

It sounds like they intend to make you think your child will lose their nursery place if you don't give them your medical records Hmm

As with any other big controlling lie, you should have in mind that the liar will likely lie again in the same way, for the same purpose, and with the same lack of shame.

Call them out or plead loss/ignorance, or however you want to handle it, but don't cave to it.

You might want to let OFSTED see the wording of the letter too Wink

Never had to show anything to nursery. But were asked a lot of questions about birth, early days and jabs on forms. No evidence needed. Then when they started school asked similar questions again - I had to look it up!! I couldn't remember the answers! But that was nearly 5 years later! (& medical issues since that are far more prominent in my mind - for form filling!)

Local Authorities advise nurseries to ask for this. We haven't it's only advice, you don't have to listen to it.

nurseryvoice · 15/04/2016 14:34

Nurseries need to know NI numbers for pupil premium payments , birth certificates need to be seen not kept as its data protection if 2 year old funding is being paid for by local council.

squizita · 15/04/2016 14:59

Hazey in London the nursery would be out of area from the HV in many cases - even if it's up the road.
They categorically do not need to see the red book. They need proof of certain information therein, and the red book might be an easy way of getting this: but OFSTED don't insist on a red book being seen.
They need a bit certificate and immunisation records, plus health details like allergies etc.

Many children attend daycare attached to nurseries prior to their 2 year check, so that is also irrelevant.

squizita · 15/04/2016 15:07

...They can ask to see HV 1 and 2 year checks but it's a request AND they don't need the whole book.
Integrated Care means linking relevant info. As others have said, weight gain at 3 weeks old is irrelevant.

Google Surrey County Council Two year checks -Information for parents.

Tearowel that will just be Surrey though. All areas will be slightly different

BloodyDogHairs · 15/04/2016 17:35

My Dd had her development check today and I asked the HV how long I had to keep the red book for as I still have my nearly 18 yrs olds red book she told me that the book was only for my personal record and I could do whatever I wanted with it. I was tempted to tell her about this thread and ask what her thoughts were Grin but I didn't.

upthegardenpath · 15/04/2016 22:32

MrsDeVere Sad insensitive twat doesn't even cover it...I'm so sorry about your DD.

Caprinihahahaha · 16/04/2016 08:49

Surrey Council have put that you should present the red book.

It is still bollocks though. They can ask - and it is all couched in that language - but they can still fuck off.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 16/04/2016 16:15

Just because surry council feel they are entitled to request it and would like parents to comply,it does not always follow that they are entitled to request it or that parents should comply

Schools and Nursery are only permitted to ask what is on the application form, childcare and medical info.

However, I had crippling pre/PND and suffer with chronic depression. My daughter's father and I are friends but divorced and we have complex childcare arrangements.

I chose to write to my Pre nursery and Nursery (and will write to school once the places are announced on Monday) explaining all of this.

My MH affects my daughter and I felt it was important to get everything clear from day 1. There have since been changes to living arrangements for her (because of my MH) too.

Her school is brilliant. I get extra newsletters (one for me and one for dad) and her parent-teacher meetings are lovely because her teacher will reassure me and we can discuss periods when my daughter has had anxiety/issues and work on them.
