AIBU to think flower bags are completely useless and an eco-menace?

Supermarket cashiers seem pre programmed to insist you have one! They seem shocked when I decline politely. One even gave me a lecture on how wet the flower stems were!

Err, flowers are already wrapped in plastic and the stems are v slightly damp. I think I can cope... (Didn't say this but wish I had).

Today, when I declined the bag, the cashier paused and as though desperate to provide some extra compensatory service offered to peel off the price sticker!

Am sure she was trying to be helpful but am sure the rest of the queue don't need to be held up with someone piddling off a sticker!

Total first world problem. Maybe IABU.

Anyone else want to ban flower bags?

Well, I broadly agree, but could have done with one the time I bought daffodils with freshly cut stems and therefore walked around for a couple of hours looking as if someone had ejaculated a particularly large and slimy puddle of semen all over my coat.

Daffodil jizz is a definite point in favour of flower bags.

This reminds me, I was in the queue at a Tesco Express once and a woman buying a bouquet was making a huge fuss over the fact they didn't give her a flower bag, as they didn't have any. The tirade lasted for minutes and the whole time I was struggling to wait in line with my impatient toddler...

"What sort of shop doesn't have flower bags?! You sell flowers don't you?! This is quite outrageous. How am I supposed to carry them? They'll make a mess if they're not in a bag! What? No, I don't want them in an ordinary carrier bag thank you very much, take them out again please! I shall be speaking to your manager about this! No flower bags - whatever next!"

When she left the cashier and I just stared at eachother in stunned silence.

I buy flowers in Lidl and as far as I know, they don't have flower bags - so clearly they are not needed. But then I don't know why spring onions now come in a plastic bag whereas they used to just have and elastic band around them - not to mention a whole host of other packaging on fruit/veg which is not needed. I think supermarkets still have a long way to go before they are really being environmentally friendly.
