To not let my DM call her dog a name I wanted for my non-existent baby?

So if I ever have another girl I'd like to call her Isla- we are ttc. My DM also loves the name and has always wanted to call her dog that if she got one. She is now getting a dog. AIBU to tell her she can't use the name when I'm not even pregnant? Can you think of any similar alternative pretty names for DM's dog?

I don't how you can stop her. Let her crack on and if she does it's a probably for future Islaskye should the circumstances mean it becomes an issue.

Why wouldn't you want a doggy name for a dog? Confused

CrystalMcPistol · 14/04/2016 17:22

I love doggy names on dogs. We need more dogs called Pickles and fewer dogs called Poppy!

I think it's more trendy for the DCs to have doggy names and the dogs to have 'people' names.

I know a dog called Steve. Hmm

We had family friends when I was growing up that had a son called George and a dog called George. Not sure who came first! I didn't think it was weird, although the odd conversation needed clarification as to which George you were talking about!

I know some lovely (human) Islas. My DD1 is Cara and we also know some adorable canine Caras, it is Gaelic for friend and Italian for dear so works well for pets. Blush lots of cute Scottish Gaelic names and place names work well for dogs. Give her a map colours feature prominently in meanings too so that could work well for a dog (not looking at DD3 blonde whose name is Gaelic for raven haired).

The Prime Minister is named after my childhood pet.

I met a yorkie puppy called Kevin yesterday.

Irrelevant.

Laidupwithabrokenleg · 14/04/2016 20:06

Aww, Kevin the puppy sounds great. My dad and brother are both called Kevin! Isla is a lovely name, but very popular now. Like PP said, no point worrying about what hasn't happened yet. If you do another daughter then you will think of a lovely name for her. There was a post on here earlier about a lady that wanted to name her baby Gertrude, but decided upon Maxine

By the time you have a child, if its a girl, Isla could be the same as Lily-Mae or Jayden is now, or Demi-Leigh was 15yrs ago, and by that I mean common and a bit naff
How bloody rude!
