AIBU?

Drivers who keep stopping to let traffic out of side roads. Grrr.

Ok, it's fair enough in really slow moving traffic, but this week I seem to be plagued with drivers who disrupt the normally flowing traffic (20mph or so) to "helpfully" let people out.

What about helping the people who are driving behind you by keeping going? Angry

Actually this shouldn't be on AIBU. I am being reasonable.

If the traffic is normally 20 mph and fairly constant, how would someone on a side road pull across into the far lane of the main road if no-one let them out?

Do you never need to be let out yourself? Do you only drive on main roads?

If everyone takes turns and lets one person out every now and again, then it all works much nicer.

Is this a joke?

I hate it more when they stop suddenly to let someone out of the opposite side when there's a stream of steady traffic blocking the person getting out anyway! I really don't understand that.

I live on a horrendous road to get out of, im very thankful who spend 15 seconds of their life letting me out!

Is this a ne MN record? OP starts an AIBU and admits she is being unreasonable in 2 minutes with any input from other posters...

No one would get anywhere in London if we didn't let each other out. Traffic would be backed up in side roads for miles!
YABU

But there are gaps. At least there are where I live.

Soupy. Actually, I've decided I'm reasonable and shouldn't have posted here.

But, if no-one ever starts the stopping, they will never get let out! It's a sign to force someone in the steady traffic flow to let them across.

If the traffic was really 20/30mph, I wouldn't screech to a halt to let someone out, I usually look behind me to see if a natural gap is there, if there's no natural gap I might be more inclined to slow and stop.

I stop for children, mums/dads and children, elderly and disabled to cross busy roads all the time near our house, and I don't give a shit about the cars behind.

My pet hate is people who dive out the way of emergency vehicles without basic use of mirrors and very nearly cause an accident. I know we need to move but safely is the key!

I do this OP. It is called being thoughtful.

The highway code suggests "you should not yield right of way unexpectedly" (paraphrase)

Try and have a bit of empathy for the person pulling out. It coul be you one day stuck there for 15 minutes because everyone is too selfish to slow down for a fraction of a second to let you out.
20 mph is not very fast anyway. It's the perfect speed to be able to show some manners!

Actually this is going to be a dull worthy thread.

If you were the woman in front of me today who stopped to let people out at every bloody junction, then well done you.

I rely heavily on being let in and out on a round about on the way back from the school run. so I pay it forward.

there's a road on my route where people have no let up in the traffic due to it being rush hour and a 40mph Rd. of no one let them.out of their drives they'd be stuck there all day.

if 10 seconds makes u late then leave earlier and do something about your anger.

If i can see a stream of traffic behind me and I can slow down a bit to increase the gap so a car can come out I will.

YABU if the road is quite busy then its just nice manners to let someone out. I always try to, flash my lights at the person waiting to get out with plenty of notice and really only slow down a few miles.

There is nothing worse than sitting at a junction and it's just too busy to get out. Or when you could probably make it but its a little tight so you don't.

Its nice to be nice

Thanks LH. Job done.
They were definitely not 15 minute wait type junctions.

Try living in Belgium. There seems to be a law where you must let folk out of side roads, but it is very haphazardly adhered to, some people toot their horns if you do and some if you don't.
I've been here since last summer and I have no idea what is supposed to happen. Oh and nobody ever indicates their intentions, so you never know whether people are turning or going right round roundabouts. All very weird.

"If i can see a stream of traffic behind me and I can slow down a bit to increase the gap so a car can come out I will."

A gentle slow down is fine. It was a case of halting the flow repeatedly that got my goat.
