AIBU?

Drivers who keep stopping to let traffic out of side roads. Grrr.

Ok, it's fair enough in really slow moving traffic, but this week I seem to be plagued with drivers who disrupt the normally flowing traffic (20mph or so) to "helpfully" let people out.

What about helping the people who are driving behind you by keeping going? Angry

I don't know if Bridget Christie does Mumsnet.

But if she did, I suspect her posts would write like limitedperiodonlys ....

Walnuts are gross.

In a moment of adventurousness, we recently tried some Walnut and Gorganzola large ravioli ... quite nice, certainly one to have again.

Oh and if you decide to stop/slow down to let someone turn into a side road can you please ensure someone isn't crossing it at the time! Highway Code rule 170.

I think the OP's point is the person who keeps doing it. Once you've let one person out, don't let anyone else out. Let someone else be the generous one. I think it's ok to take your foot off the gas to let someone out but if you are braking, that's not good because you end up with a chain reaction of braking behind you which adds to the congestion.

And if the lights are on green for cars, do not stop to let a pedestrian over (unless already half way across, obviously, I'm not advocating running people over!). They really can wait until the lights change to green for them. I won't go when a car does that for me. It's nice for me but very rude to the cars behind them.

I also won't go if someone stops for me and there was nothing behind them because they clearly didn't look in their mirror.

limited I found your Diana story very spooky. Is it odd to say that actually it has inspired me to give up Coke. ?

I think it depends. If there's a steady stream of traffic or if it's building up and crawling then of course we need to let vehicles out.

If there's one vehicle behind you and a gap after that vehicle then I don't think it's necessary

I have to pull across two lanes of 50 mile an hour traffic at 7.30am on a morning and I am bloody grateful if a driver driving in the flow of traffic I need to be in sees a gap of incoming traffic on my near side lane and slows down and lets me out otherwise I can be sat there in a queue waiting to get out for 10 minutes.

YANBU and I am Shock at the people who think you are. You should never cause another road user to stop, swerve or slow down. If the car in front of you causes you to slow down by letting someone out then they are going against the highway code.

I also hate people who strike through the things they really want to say but don't have the guts to do it

I'm sure that's what the strike-through was intended for, wasn't it?

If I let someone in (safely) because I choose to and the driver behind me flashes I will probably let more people in!

It's a judgment call. I am more likely to give way if there is only one car waiting - less if I think I will be letting half the world in.

If you are driving up his bum then he is probably doing it on purpose. I purposely do things like this to annoy tailgaters

Ha ha it was probably me letting them all out- I slowed down a few times!

I always check there is nobody up my arse before I slow down/stop. If there is nobody close I'll stop & let people out.

Have to admit, I'm not as kind to BMW drivers Blush

Honestly, I've found when another driver is pulling off some shit or crazy manoeuvre, more often than not it's been a BMW (it's what I've found based on recent experiences!)

If the person in front of me is doing this and I'm in a rush I would too be of the opinion of YANBU to be annoyed. However, if I am the person waiting to pull out I would be greatfull of the other kind helpful good driver. 😃

titanium I only flash the lights if they are coming onto my side of the road, so they don't have to come across the two lanes/opposite sides. Just my side, hope that makes sense. And obviously I'm not going to hit them lol

Motheroffourdragons, driving in Belgium is dreadful- not only do the rules not really work but half the people on the road never took a test (licences were introduced v late). Belgium has a really shocking death rate on the roads, it's a mess.

Anyway, Google priorite a droite (sorry, can't do accents on my phone). You do have to give way to traffic from the right in certain circs- depends on the road markings, type of road and signs.

I'd sit in my road all day if some kind soul wouldn't give way. Right turn.

I try to let people out. One good turn deserves another. Tabu.

But...but...but if you let somebody pull out in front of you, YOU ARE BEHIND THEM! Do people not understand this? You let them out and are suddenly less there than you otherwise would have been. And then that person you let in might make the next set of lights and you'll be stuck waiting on red. They'll be miles ahead in your rightful place! Bastards!!!!

The people who let people out are nearly as bad as the people who don't let me pull out of places. I have shit to do! Stop wasting my time and let me out! Bastards!!!!

I don't like it when people 'aggressively' flash their lights.

Quite. It makes me think of the "flash for cash" scam. If I let people out, I never flash the lights.

I agree with you op. But I live in an area where people stop from 60mph to do this and it causes no end of accidents. As does giving way on Roundabouts when it's their priority Confused
