Hmm someone I know (male friend) reactivates Facebook about 3 times a year, doesn't post any updates/ pics or likes or comments whatsoever. His gf has wrote a lovely comment under one of his pics he hasn't acknowledged it or liked it. He is also down as single and has his phone number on full view. Aibu to think it's a little strange?

How do you even care enough to make a post about it?

You need to get a life.

Lol, why does it bother you?

Yes, it's a little strange that you noticed.

So it doesn't look like he's trying to come across as single then?

If he's not on it then it's not an active account so what does it matter that it says he is single

It comes across as someone who doesn't care much for Facebook. Probably just has a look a few times a year as it is how many people communicate and leaves it at that.

Is he your boyfriend?

Surely his girlfriend is aware of the same Facebook details you are.

He might be on it just for the groups. That's the only reason I use fb. Anything you like or post in a secret or private group doesn't show up in your friends' newsfeeds unless they're also members of that group.
Another thing could be that his privacy settings mean that anything he does post are only visible to selected friends.

I think it's a massive leap from someone not commenting or liking on facebook to trying to pretend they are single.

I've been on facebook for ten years and it doesn't say anywhere on facebook that I'm married because it's not relevant. But it doesn't mean I'm pretending not to be married.

Trying to work out if this is serious. If so, yes, amazingly there are still people in the world who don't live their whole lives on facebook. I can't remember last time I've posted or liked anything on facebook, but I stay on it as lots of people use it for event invites and messaging. Given that I live with my DP I can't say that it's ever occurred to me that not being listed as "in a relationship" with him or not liking one of his comments means that our relationship is doomed!

Seriously its fb. Its a tool to keep in touch nothing more. I doubt my dh would know if anyone had posted on his fb wall for x many months.... Most people dont live their lives through it.

It sounds as though he's someone that doesn't really use it, regardless it's none of your business.

From the sound of this, I think he just doesn't use Facebook much. If it bothers you then you could unfriend him?

I sort of get what you mean OP. Why would he actively put his relationship status as "single" when he's in a relationship and could easily just leave it blank? But it could be that he put "single" when he was and simply hasn't bothered changing it now he isn't, especially as FB clearly isn't a big part of his life. If he was an active user I'd perhaps feel differently. My "boyfriend" of 2 years is like your friend; hasn't changed his relationship status, rarely posts, never comments or likes anything I post on my timeline or his, but is only bugs me a bit because we have wider issues than FB. Do you know his GF and is she happy with him?

It's only bloody Facebook! Why on earth is this bothering you?

PPie10 · 12/04/2016 09:11

You must be the gf then?

PaulAnkaTheDog · 12/04/2016 09:12

Why would you even notice this? Confused

FGS I still had "single" on my profile after I'd started a relationship. A (female) friend of my new partner harangued me about it and from then on I thought she was an ultimate twat.

Some people just don't bother with FB!

What a load of shit. This post must be a joke.

Just incase it isn't.... I have been with OH for 10 yrs, living together and have a DC. None of it is on Facebook. Maybe he prefers to live his life in RL rather than updating Facebook

I'm not the gf. I don't know her although I do however, know him and he has form for cheating.

You are way too invested in this guy.

Hmmmmmm I think you're a bit over-invested. How would you KNOW about odd reactivating unless you were looking ever so regularly?
