To think DH is wrong to get angry over this...I can't help it!

DH says that all night long, every night I steal all the duvet. He says he's spending most of the night either cold and waking up or pulling the duvet back from me.

He's literally angry about it but what can I do? I'm completely unaware of this situation! He says I could make a "conscious" choice not to do it BEFORE I go to sleep and that this would make it stop.

I disagree.

But more importantly what the heck do we DO about it? Practically I mean? We don't want to sleep separately.

We have a wool duvet on the spare bed, don't recall it being especially expensive.

And who cares how tidy their bed looks anyway, no one sees it.

CheeseToastie123 · 11/04/2016 11:17

I am rather taken with the word 'doona'. That is all.

OptimisticSix · 11/04/2016 11:32

Haha this thread is making me laugh, and it's so nice to know we are not the only two duvet couple. My friends all think it's a bit weird :D

KindDogsTail · 11/04/2016 11:44

If you do not want two separate duvets, then I suggest you sew two kingsize (or double) duvets together along the outside seam. As the duvets will be quite heavy on either side of the seam it might be best to stitch some tape along the seam as you sew in order to reinforce it.

Or, use a long zip to join the two duvets so you can undo them to fit in a washing machine.

BaronessBomburst · 11/04/2016 12:08

Why, thank you CCFM.
Green. And all the rest of it is white.
I dyed the bedding myself and then mixed the paint to match. cheap
Although I was recently told it looked like a sitting room. Confused

MerryMarigold · 11/04/2016 12:35

What is a doona? Is it a proper American word for a duvet?

QuestionableMouse · 11/04/2016 12:40

Doona is Aussie slang for duvet.

MerryMarigold · 11/04/2016 13:25

Aha. Thanks

SanityClause · 11/04/2016 15:07

Doona is the Australian word for duvet. It's not slang, any more than duvet is, in the UK. If you said duvet in Australia no one would know what you were talking about.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/04/2016 15:56

Oh God, I LOVE that pic of the green bedroom, soooooo restful... sigh...

We have 2 singles on a super king mattress and throw a massive bedspread over it so it's neat in the day.

Catherik · 12/04/2016 10:41

My Mum always told me to buy the duvet one size bigger than the bed so you have quite a bit of duvet hanging over each side. Ie. King size bed, super king duvet.I've always done it & never had any duvet stealing problems. Snoring issues... whole different ball game. Hmm

nicolachristine · 12/04/2016 10:56

2 duvets. We have even gone higher. I am the one whose duvet is normally stolen so I advocate a four duvet policy in our bed. Our normal night: Partner steals duvet, I grab another. He then dumps his over the side of bed and steals mine. I grab another. And repeat. My dream: 4 KINGSIZED duvets.

eitak22 · 12/04/2016 11:10

Another 2 duvet people. I steal the duvet and cocoon so i get a huge one and DH has a single in a lower tog as he gets far too warm, works for us :)

I'm not cross. I was irritated by posters who were pulling faces at me and being short in their replies. I'm not at all cross though.

John Lewis deliver to Australia for 10 pounds (GBP). They have some inexpensive bedding for example here. The duvets fluff up nicely after a few hours once the air gets to them.

Janey50 · 12/04/2016 16:43

Shortly after my DP moved in with me 3 years ago,I invested in 2 good quality single duvets. It wasn't so much that duvet hogging was an issue, just that he likes to sleep with the duvet pulled right up over his head, whereas I rarely have it past my shoulders. If I shared a duvet with him,I would end feeling as if I was being suffocated. Problem solved. I would never go back to sharing a duvet now. You are still sharing a bed,so you still have the closeness. I really don't understand why so many people complain about this issue, when to me the solution is blindingly obvious!

Janey50 · 12/04/2016 16:45

Sorry OP just seen your post saying you don't want 2 duvets.

mathanxiety · 13/04/2016 04:59

Wrt not wanting two duvets -- you don't have to steal them both.

Purplestarssparkle · 13/04/2016 05:46

Dh says I'm a duvet stealer we have a double bed but the duvet is a super king size this way dh gets a bit of duvet we start the night off with a lot of the duvet on his side to give him him a chance Grin

SINdicator · 16/04/2016 14:22

Yes, bigger duvet, and then sew the centre of it into the centre of the mattress Wink.

Seriously… an excellent opportunity for some bright spark to come up with a solution to this age old dilemma. Some kind of Duvet/Sleeping bag combo perhaps?
