It encourages the worst sort of nasty, libellous speculation, creepy fan obsessing and vicious gossip mongering.

It is inhabited by the type of posters who would feel very comfortable on the Sidebar of Shame.

It is not in the spirit of the mumsnet site - celebrities are parents too and it is in no way a happy and supportive place.

AIBU to think that it is surplus to the requirements of Mumsnet and shouldn't be there?

:-)

Scone1nSixtySeconds · 12/04/2016 11:35

I love reading gossip, if only because it makes my friends go Shock Grin as I am not at all gossipy about real people.

celebitchy.com is great - some really sparky clever women comment on there

www.agcwebpages.com/BLINDITEMS/MAINPAGE.html has the blind items with names from lots of sites.

I am quite willing to believe that 97%of the latter is a crock of sheep eggs and I don't watch enough crappy US telly to know some of the subjects but it keeps me quiet.

OrangesandLemonsNow · 12/04/2016 11:38

Babygate and Larry has made it onto This Morning Grin

They also basically said it is tosh. Grin

CiderwithBuda · 12/04/2016 11:51

It can't be tosh! Wash your mouth keyboard out! Shock

There were signs. Lots of signs. There was the trainers one. That was a biggie.

And I had a dream. And I heard 1D songs on the radio AS I WAS READING A LARRY THREAD. True I tell you.

Roseanddagger · 12/04/2016 12:17

Mumsnet is utterly bonkers at times, it's ok to say you don't believe in the story we're told about mass murder of hundreds and thousands of people (9/11 etc). Or that a child abduction isn't totally how it seems. But a bunch of middle aged mum directioners get hounded off the board for speculating not whether a relationship occurred between two boyband members and whether the narrative fed by Syco (leaving aside the babygate stuff) should be believed in its entirety?

Nowt as a strange as Mumsnet folk.

Roseanddagger · 12/04/2016 12:18

Oh and yes. The babygate stuff is bonkers. But no more so than thinking the moon landings happened in a TV studio somewhere Wink

PrimalLass · 12/04/2016 12:22

You see - despite all the protestations and deletions/reports, MNers still love to talk about 1d Grin

Sparklingbrook · 12/04/2016 13:09

'middle aged mum directioners' what a depressing sentence.

Phillip Schofield was particularly Confused and the words 'mental' were used at one point....

OrangesandLemonsNow · 12/04/2016 13:13

Holly hid her head under a pillow Grin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/04/2016 13:18

Am I allowed to say I'm not sure they were middle aged?

CiderwithBuda · 12/04/2016 13:19

Roseanddagger - I will admit to finding some of the whole Larry thing bonkers and definitely the Babygate thing but I kind of agree that they shouldn't have been hounded off the boards. It really strikes me as censorship. There are some completely beyond the pale threads left to stand. I also get that MNHQ have to be very careful about naming celebs etc. and th possible resultant legal repercussions.

It's a fine line.

Sparklingbrook · 12/04/2016 13:20

No i don't think you are allowed to say anything Rafa. Grin

OrangesandLemonsNow · 12/04/2016 13:27

I think the problem with the 'gatters' was that they refused to engage with anyone who didn't 100% agree with them and turned into thread police.

The slightest hint of disagreement and the word 'troll' was shouted, even to posters who have been membrs for years, and so it turned nasty, whilst they constantly name changed and asked for their own threads to be deleted.

Sparklingbrook · 12/04/2016 13:28

There's a thread somewhere about favourite conspiracy theories that I hid I would imagine it's being discussed in there.

Roseanddagger · 12/04/2016 13:29

Ach, ok. Fine, replace middle aged mum directioners with 'non tween 1D fans'.

Or are you only supposed to like Adele and Ed Sheeran between the ages of 25 and 45. Any older and you really should be considering replacing your hearing aid and getting back to your knitting. And/or listening to Paul McCartney. Who may or may not be dead. Which is also ok to speculate about. Brew

squoosh · 12/04/2016 13:30

Depressing old world if my only listening options are One Direction, Adele, Ed Sheeran and Paul McCartney. All equally shite.

Roseanddagger · 12/04/2016 13:33

It is being discussed in there (which was actually the thread I meant to post on - doh - sorry).

However there was a clear split between the two factions and the Babygaters quickly moved on but it was everything else that attracted the vitriol. Anyway. Don't know why I'm getting so invested except I do think it's strange as mentioned earlier some of the other stuff left to stand whilst even the suggestion that someone over the age of 15 likes a boyband is met with derision.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 12/04/2016 13:36

I now find myself humming 1D songs at my desk because of those bloody Larry threads/videos. I do love a bit of Carpool Karaoke though Blush

Whatitisnt · 12/04/2016 13:46

Primal - there's almost as much larry on MN as there was a week ago, there's just been a 1D diaspora. Eventually it will be renamed twaddlenet.

Chippednailvarnish · 12/04/2016 14:11

I don'y know any 1D songs, nor could I recognise them proud

Destinysdaughter · 12/04/2016 14:54

Chipped here ya go!

It wasn't really their musical tastes that made me think they were under 21.
I've no issue with people listening to whatever they want.

MadamoiselleMango · 12/04/2016 19:16

That's not what happened at all! Non babygaters were rubbing along fine with babygaters. The reasons the threads got pulled was cos of that link in heat magazine and then the last thread got deleted cos lots of posters came on to tell everyone they were pervy monsters.

Roseanddagger · 12/04/2016 21:19

^^ what mademoiselle said.

mrsfitzpatrick · 12/04/2016 22:35

Well said Mademoiselle. There seems to be a nasty trend of established posters getting involved in threads they have no interesst in just to cause trouble. Poor bloke wants to discuss Kanye, and established poster rallies up support and causes a bunfight and thread goes pop. Just let people discuss what they want! I loved the Larry threads, they were bonkers but fun and I bet all of you miss them but wont admit it!
