shoe assistant wrong prices

Sometimesithinkimbonkers · 08/04/2016 10:38

Yesterday go into a shoe shop looking for trainers for DD4 and DS8. We also have DS6 with us who is disabled, noisy and in a wheelchair!
Assistant brings out 2 pairs of shoes, purple sparky sketchers and geox trainers. DD sees sparky shoes and loves them .... I prefer the Geox obviously as now trying to get her out of a pair of Leli Kelly's.
Ask the assistant the price ..., she says "from £40" ..... So said well that's great ... What is the price please can you check???

She goes the till and comes back and says the geox are £35 and purple ones £32. DD loves them and in price range. Assist looks for shoes for DS 8 but can't find any so we go to pay.

At the till she says £35... DS 6 is kicking off by now ... I say hmmm thought £32 ... My mistake she says ... So I pay and leave.

I'm pissed off do have phoned Head Office today and said this has happened.
They've called back and said they will speak to staff and offered 10% off next shoes and my £3 back.
Told me the staff is new!

Have IBU ? If at the till shed apologised and said £32 yes my mistake ... I'll give them at the price .... I wouldn't have been arsed ... But I had asked the price .... She had checked ... They've gone up £3 in 10 minutes.

Now I feel like I might have got the new girl in trouble !!!

It's not even the £3 i just felt pressured to buy because of said DD could have them and DS6 was kicking off!
Not only that it 3 kids I need to buy school shoes and trainers for so at least £230 spend so saving £3 is good?
Have I been a cow?

Wow. I can't believe you did that, tbh.

WeAllHaveWings · 08/04/2016 12:23

She took responsibility and said she made a mistake, you had the choice to buy the shoes or not if £3 was a deal breaker for you. Think you have massively overreacted and hope the girl doesn't get into trouble because you're having a stressful day. YABVU.

grapejuicerocks · 08/04/2016 12:24

The price on the goods is the invitation to treat.
The customer makes the offer.
The contract is completed when the sales assistant accepts the offer.

Often shops honour wrongly priced items but legally they dont have to.

Yabu. You should have asked to speak to the manager at the time if it worried you. It's not the poor girls fault that your kids were kicking off. She made a mistake and apologised. Now she's probably in trouble.

PPie10 · 08/04/2016 12:26

You were nasty to have complained to head office about her. You had a choice at the till to refuse the shoes after she told you she made a mistake. Poor girl and she's new as well. Really petty and grabby of you.

bluespiral · 08/04/2016 12:26

YWBU.

You knew the correct price before you paid, nobody forced you to buy the shoes at the higher price.

It was just a mistake - and at £3, a pretty insignificant one. I can't believe you actually complained and I can't believe they offered you anything more than an apology tbh.

Firstmum24 · 08/04/2016 12:26

YANBU
you were told a specific price after the sales assistant checked.
Iwouldnt worry about getting her into trouble - most times the complaint never even reaches the store.

Good for you!

ilovesooty · 08/04/2016 12:42

If you could have stood your ground at the till. Ringing head office after that is nasty on my opinion. I bet any kind of customer complaint is followed up and if she's only recently been hired she could fail her probationary period or be dismissed.
Still, you got your £3 and a discount. I hope you're pleased.

Sometimesithinkimbonkers · 08/04/2016 12:43

Nope ... My kids were not kicking off... My disabled child who had been waiting patiently was having a meltdown... This is why we have to make decisions quickly! The other two were being themselves.

Kids school shoes £35 -£40 and trainers we spend £25 - £30 also Disabled DS wears AFOS (leg splints so needs school shoes, trainers with AFOS and without. Shoes add up in our house!

If I hadn't asked her to check I wouldn't have been so annoyed....

It was the customer services number not head office.

Okay I've been unreasonable but I felt like I had no choice to buy them and it was only £3 but if the same circumstances and it was £10 I would have been stuck in the same boat buying them as because of DS I need to choose my battles!!

I'm not arsed about the 10% or anything I just was put in a position ....

Sorry Mrs sales person.

Next time I'm at a roll with disabled DS I'll record it .... You'll see when I didn't have a choice!
We are at the till he thinks we are leaving!!!

Well I'm sure that anonymous apology on a forum will make her feel better if she has to explain herself.Hmm

GraysAnalogy · 08/04/2016 12:47

YABU
It's such a simple and easy mistake to make. I feel sorry for retail folk. I can't believe you actually rang head office to complain Confused

Sometimesithinkimbonkers · 08/04/2016 12:47

Sooty .... I see you are one of those... !

OP posts:
GraysAnalogy · 08/04/2016 12:48

And I'm sorry but you don't have to keep mentioning your child who has disabilities just to strike the point home.

ilovesooty · 08/04/2016 12:48

What is "one of those" ?

Sometimesithinkimbonkers · 08/04/2016 12:48

The other pair were Geox so she didn't mix up the price!

OP posts:
squashtastic · 08/04/2016 12:49

It's not the poor girls fault that your kids were kicking off.

Well, yes she does. If people are going to act like the Op was in a hurry because her kids were being jerks, she probably needs to explain herself.

Also, I think it does explain why she really just needed to go.

ilovesooty · 08/04/2016 12:50

She made a mistake. The choice of whether or not to purchase was yours.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 08/04/2016 12:50

So are trying to imply she did it deliberately? Confused

WeAllHaveWings · 08/04/2016 12:52

if the assistant had come back at first and said they were both £35 and you know your dd "loves them" would it really have influenced your decision?

BoopTheSnoot · 08/04/2016 12:55

You reported her for the sake of £3.00.
Wow. I work in retail myself, and I'd be gutted to be landed in deep shit over £3.00. Mistakes happen sometimes, especially when you're new.
You clearly don't think you were unreasonable (even though you absolutely were) so why even bother asking?
Am I "one of those" too? I assume you mean a member of retail staff. In which case, how incredibly condescending of you to make your above comment to sooty

I think "one of those" might have meant something else Boop but Flowers

Oysterbabe · 08/04/2016 13:02

Fuck me, sales staff have to put up with some shit don't they.

ilovesooty · 08/04/2016 13:02

Well I still think you were unreasonable but do report my comment if you feel I broke talk guidelines.

PPie10 · 08/04/2016 13:03

You know what, she made a mistake but you had the opportunity to take it or leave it. How nasty minded to go and complain about her. She didn't ring it up and let you walk out the store did she. I feel sorry for retail staff who deal with the likes of you.
