To put a bin next to the toilet.

This makes me irrationally angry: My job involves going to people's houses. Normally I will be with them between a and 4 hours, so occasionally I will have to use their toilet.
Today I'm on my period and have quite heavy flow. I was on a longer job (3hrs) and bled through my tampon. I discovered that there was no von in the bathroom. Just to be clear. I try to avoid having to change my tampon in client's houses by changing in public loos, McDonald's or Starbucks and carry scented plastic bags with me tobwrap the offender in when I have to do it at someone's house.
So, anyway, i was in the very awkward position of having a soaked tampon and no way of getting rid of it. I was in charge of a very young child - so no way of nipping out to the bins or a pub (to use the loo) and ended up stemming the flow with toilet paper and going back to working with their dc for another hour.
I will not flush a tampon down the loo because I don't want to block the clients toilet.

So, aibu to ask you all to provide a bin for female visitors?

EggbertHeartsTina. Don't feel guilty - there is no way two tampons would be the cause of a blocked drain. Your Mums drains must have already been in very bad way.

The culmative effect of flushing lots of tampons might cause a problem but two on their own wouldn't.

Vintage45 · 06/04/2016 20:39

No I don't Auntie

Vintage45 · 06/04/2016 20:40

Ive been to many a beach and never seen a tampon on it.

edwinbear · 06/04/2016 20:41

OP are you a nanny by any chance? Wow if I had employed you to work in my home, taking care of my dc, you would be very welcome to dispose of your tampon in any bin of mine you like. The same as with my cleaner. It's a bin, I do my best not to touch the contents of it when I empty it, as by virtue of the fact it's a bin, it has minging stuff in it. Not that I'd go routing through it to see if you had placed anything in it.

Vintage45 · 06/04/2016 20:42

I have however seen lots of plastic.

RufusTheReindeer · 06/04/2016 20:42

Dont have a bin in my bathroom

I do provide sanitary towels, but not a bin

Pipbin · 06/04/2016 20:42

Im a flusher and proud of it

You are a goady fucker that much I know.

ScoutsMam · 06/04/2016 20:43

Another one thinking this was started by fab little bag! If it was, kudos. I love those little bags, so pleased I got to try them. I also work in people's homes OP. Being on your period while fitting out the bathroom (door off hinges) is a fun one. Grin

Expect nothing and plan for everything.

Pipbin · 06/04/2016 20:44

If you use a bin it goes to landfill doesn't it? I flush.

Nope, landfill is now too expensive. In my town all non recyclable waste gets incinerated and the resulting energy used for electricity.

LeaLeander · 06/04/2016 20:44

Here's a piece about marine debris including that from sanitary products, diapers, condoms and the like.

someonestolemynick · 06/04/2016 20:45

Wow, there are a lot of replies.

To the people calling me disgusting for leaving a wrapped up tampon in someone else's bin:
Seriously? Seriously? It's cotton wool and blood in a scented bag. I'm not drawing on the wall with it or leave it dangling in the front door. I don't see the problem.

It's not the first time that i found myself in a no-bin situation and I prefer to stem the flow to carry it around in my bag. It has happened that a kid has rummaged around in my bag. I don't encourage it (in fact I take a very hard line in it), but it has happened. It's not the law to provide a bin of course, i simply findbit a bit thoughtless to make such an easy adjustment for your visitors.

And to anyone who offered me symbolic use of their bathroom bin: Flowers

I post purely from my honesty in situations. Im not a lover of people that use the word "goady" are you a fecking troll hunger too? Who do you think you are?

JuxtapositionRecords · 06/04/2016 20:46

Just googled fab little bags and they are £2.99 for 20. Still really expensive, can't see any difference between them and a nappy bag.

purplefizz26 · 06/04/2016 20:46

Everybody saying people shouldn't dispose of sanitary products in some one else's bin, where do you think they should go? ConfusedHmm

Very odd.

ScoutsMam · 06/04/2016 20:47

Just saw the nappy sack suggestions. Nappy bags are see through, I share work toilets with men sometimes and work in clients homes. Like FUCK am I using a see through bag. Wouldn't have as a teenager either. £1.90 well spent for a bit of privacy.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/04/2016 20:47

I'm Shock at all the people who think it is OK to flush tampons, it's really not OK.

And if landfill bothers you, use some form of reusable San pro, or choose a disposable that you can do lost eg Natracare.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/04/2016 20:48

Vintage

The water companies rake all the tampons, San pro, baby wipes etc out of the sewage & send it to landfill.

Which costs them a lot because it's commercial rates, not just domestic waste.

Then they get it back from our water bills.

Vintage45 · 06/04/2016 20:48

hunter obviously. I also dislike autocorrect a lot!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/04/2016 20:48

Do lost = compost Blush

Buckinbronco · 06/04/2016 20:48

Someonestolemynick- why can't you put your tampons in the kitchen bin?

RudeElf · 06/04/2016 20:49

I'm busting to know what Zoe does with her tampons.

Vintage45 · 06/04/2016 20:49

What do you think the ones that shove stuff in landfills do? It comes out of our taxes no matter what way they're disposed of.

someonestolemynick · 06/04/2016 20:49

I'm not a nanny, but very often have some charge of the child whilst I do my job. yay to vagueness. So, i can't leave the house and I always thibkbthat emerging with a bag from the toilet could lead to a conversation that isn't mine to have.

GreenMarkerPen · 06/04/2016 20:49

yabu for using scented bags

yanbu for expecting a bin in the bathroom.

ghostyslovesheep · 06/04/2016 20:50

I've just looked up 'Fab little bags' on amazon - £1.90 EACH....... Thats more expensive that the tampon

Morrisons value nappy sacks - 12p a pack - job done (I also use them for collecting cat poo)

NB I don't 'collect' cat poo - I mean collecting it from the littler tray and putting it in the bin!
