Just curious if people actually win these things! I have been.entering competitions online & from magazines for years, just for fun, when dc are in bed at night. They always show 'last weeks competition winners' ...has anyone here ever won, cash prize or holidays in particular?

I've won quite a lot over the years. I entered The Big Quiz on Steve Wright's show on Radio 2 and won a hamper with some jams, an umbrella, a personal DVD player, some DVDs, and some other stuff I can't remember (won 4 or 5 days in a row), could have gone on for longer, but didn't want to risk losing all the prizes. I've also won PopMaster (won a Space radio!), some money in a local radio contest, £100 of vouchers, tickets to Lego Land, tickets to V Festival, some glittery paints, a kids game, an entire back catalogue of Carole Matthews books and a few other little things....
Never won anything life changing though - still waiting for that to happen. I'm a fairly lucky person and I believe that somebody's got to win, so why not me?!

I won a 7" signed copy of Sinitta's So Macho once. Competition wise, it remains my finest hour.

LackaDAISYcal · 04/04/2016 16:00

I've won a few bits and pieces on here; £100 John Lewis voucher, books, cinema tickets (one included an amazing rucksack goody bag of toys for DS1), been a product tester here for lots of things (which is a win of sorts) as well as a product tester for Mother & Bany magazine when the kids were little. Did the awards twice and then a review of double buggies, and bagged a few freebies from those. My favourite win was for getting Star Letter in BBC Good Food mag years ago, winning a bread maker! They were new to the market then and cost loads! DH won a widescreen TV years ago for guessing how many toilet rolls had been used in a display. It was worth over £1500 at the time!
I go through phases of entering loads or none at all. Might step it up again. You gotta be in it to win it after all!!

MaureenMLove · 04/04/2016 16:07

I won a holiday to Zante on here. I have had a couple of other wins on here too over the years, but I'm that much of an old timer, I can't remember!

Also won £100 Amazon voucher just before Christmas. Couldn't have timed it better!

Lauren1983 · 04/04/2016 16:52

I comp as a hobby although I don't do it as much as I did.

My best prizes so far are - £5000 from ITV, £1000 from Heart fm, £250 Red Letter Days voucher, £300 of Benefit make up, Longleat tickets, £200 of ASOS clothes and £300 of Next clothes.

NotCitrus · 04/04/2016 17:20

I wanted to donate to a certain charity and they said the best way to do it was to enter their lottery, so I set up a direct debit for tickets each month.

And won a tenner, and another and another, so I actually wasn't donating at all. So upped the direct debit and still get £10 at least once a year.

Have won a couple books on MN (neither would have been worth buying, but one it was actually someone else who won but they said they had one, so MN invited them to choose another poster on the thread, and they sent me a really nice message!)

My first ever prize was a portable radio with headphones, over 30 years ago, and I still use it when travelling as the battery lasts years and it picks up AM and the World Service etc. Other than that I get the odd flower pot and stuff in raffles.

didilly · 04/04/2016 20:10

I have been comping since my chilren were small (they are now both grown up). Over the years i have won a few trips and holidays: A spa break at Champneys, trip to London for the official launch of the GB Olympics team, a weekend in Jersey, a sailing holiday for 4 in Greece, a week for 2 at a spa in St Lucia and a two week trip for two to Thailand and Singapore. It's a fantastic hobby but much harder to win anything now compared to the 80's and 90's.

BestZebbie · 04/04/2016 20:16

My parents used to get Competitor's Companion magazine in the 90s and enter all the ones where you had to think of a slogan - eventually they won a washing machine and decided to stop trying to keep up the momentum for 'let's all sit round together and think of rhymes for Findus Crispy Panckes!!' family nights. :-)

Piffpaffpoff · 04/04/2016 20:22

I've won a few FB and Twitter comes recently. I won one today in fact! . Tiny prizes, but exciting all the same.

weepat · 04/04/2016 20:40

Won an American fridge freezer on a phone in Anthony Worrall Thomson. £1000 about 10 years ago.
.

KurriKurri · 04/04/2016 20:50

Oh just remembered a friend of mine won one of those 'dream wedding' competitions on the radio - she got a wedding in South Africa, all accomodations, clothes for everyone, reception, honeymoon etc etc.

LizKeen · 04/04/2016 20:50

Right, thanks to this thread I have entered well over 40 competitions today. Shock

Its not enough. I WANT MOOOOOOREE.

A monster has been created.

Hoping I get over it tomorrow. :o

keithydee · 04/04/2016 20:58

£100 grands worth in 6 years, a dozen holidays, £25k cash etc, everything bar the car and house. I have recently jacked it in as it got boring in the end. A great hobby, give it a go.

londonrach · 04/04/2016 21:10

Ive won twice in over 20 years of just doing random comps that require no more than your name entered into a drawer....First win was a wicker basket which was filled with tea, chocolate and biscuits in. I shared everything with family members as i couldnt have used it all. The second win was a small pedal car. Apart from that nothing but still hopeful!

rubybleu2 · 04/04/2016 21:50

RoastParsnip · 04/04/2016 22:01

I won a MN competition to send my dd and her friend to the World Cup in Brazil 2 years ago. She had the time of her life.

edwinbear · 04/04/2016 22:19

DH won a cellar of Penfolds wine a few years ago, bottles ranged from £20 a bottle stuff up to 3 x bottles of Penfolds Grange worth about £250 a bottle. We have about 6-7 bottles of the really good stuff stashed away but drank the rest. It came a few weeks after he'd been made redundant so it was one fabulous thing in a pretty shitty time.

Chippednailvarnish · 04/04/2016 23:03

I won a Sylvanian Families bunny from a Wacaday competition in 1984.
