Just curious if people actually win these things! I have been.entering competitions online & from magazines for years, just for fun, when dc are in bed at night. They always show 'last weeks competition winners' ...has anyone here ever won, cash prize or holidays in particular?

Thanks cozie never entered an mn comp, thankfully the Easter holidays are over this morning and the kids are back to school, i was going to get dressed but you lot are motivating me to enter competitions instead Grin

cozietoesie · 04/04/2016 11:00

Ah - thanks for that 2016. I'm surprised though.

Paffle · 04/04/2016 11:05

My friend recently won a free ticket to attend a tax conference. Do I win a prize for least most interesting prize?

cozietoesie · 04/04/2016 11:05

It would, I guess, depend whether you're in the North or the Republic then, cabbage. You may not be as well to stay in those PJs.

cozietoesie · 04/04/2016 11:07

I think a ticket to a tax conference is arguably near the bottom of the barrel! Grin

gamerwidow · 04/04/2016 11:11

Bigcatlittlecat my 500 entries a week are all via the Internet. If you go to the moneysavingexpert competition board there is a forum which contains links to competitions. The bit that takes the longest is setting up all the different accounts for the magazines, Instagram, Twitter etc. (I have also have fb, Twitter and email accounts just for comping). once you've done that and set up auto fill in chrome you can whizz through all the competitions in the site. Probably takes about a month to get up to speed though.

cozietoesie · 04/04/2016 11:20

It's still a huge number, though. (To me at any rate - perhaps not to my friend's mother.)

scarednoob · 04/04/2016 11:26

I won a CD on "long wave radio Atlantic 252" for being able to recite the "lip smacking thirst quenching great tasting motivating" Pepsi advert. Tragically I can still recite it 25 years later.

The CD was shit.

witsender · 04/04/2016 11:27

I won a trip on Concorde as a teenager

GinThief · 04/04/2016 11:31

I won tickets to theatre from our free local newspaper, had to email answer to enter Smile

JerryFerry · 04/04/2016 11:40

I won a cruise for 2 of the Pacific Islands, $2500 package of product from a department store, 2-nights in 5star hotel, $1000 hamper of beauty product, plus blankets. Very cool blankets but blankets nevertheless. Plus various raffles in lcal things.

scrapaddict · 04/04/2016 11:41

I do competitions as a hobby and I have won some lovely prizes in the past. However I don't like the like and share type comps which attract thousands of entries. I like comps where you learn something or solve a puzzle. I have won holidays and great experiences but I enter for fun and count myself lucky if I win anything!

Hygellig · 04/04/2016 11:49

I won a camera in a children's newspaper competition once and two tickets to a local attraction in a caption competition. That's about it. Think I had a highly commended in a BBC Wildlife letter writing thing once as a teenager plus maybe one prize in a local thing.

leccybill · 04/04/2016 12:05

I generally have quite good luck and I seem to have passed it on to DD, who won the treasure hunt prize and then free waterpark tickets at Alton Towers recently.

I've won £200 Asda vouchers here on MN, and an Ipad from a feedback survey for BHS on the back of a receipt.
In our local paper, I've won a few meals out and passes to local attractions.

Also won lots of little prizes, beauty products, hamper of Cif products, teddy bears - not so much since the comping became a thing a few years back.

MrsJorahMormont · 04/04/2016 12:16

Marking place for tips later :o

pearlylum · 04/04/2016 12:26

I won a meal out for the family and theatre tickets just before christmas, £1000 and two weeks island hopping in the Seychelles.

BurstMyBubbles · 04/04/2016 12:37

I do a few hours a week, mostly Twitter by searching #win or #competition or #freebiefriday, have won a washing machine, make up, hotel stays, books, and lots of little treats.

chrisbishop55 · 04/04/2016 12:43

I joined Mumsnet to enter the comps (I'm actually 64 and have no grandchildren!) - haven't won from here yet I don't think but over the years I've won three holidays (Seychelles, Australia and India), a Pashley bike for my daughter, a Weber bbq and other stuff. I only enter for stuff I would like to win. No I don't spend all my time entering comps - I work, have a big garden to follow and a house to look after. I encourage everyone to try it - you've got to be in it to win it! :-)

PutDownThatLaptop · 04/04/2016 12:48

A hamper of things for my little girl from the Disney Channel and my mother won £1000 by texting a number on a Ribena carton.

KurriKurri · 04/04/2016 12:57

My XH used to enter a lot (I mean he'd sit all evening entering things online) he did win a few things - nothing as big as a car. He won about £1000 of computer stuff once, and he won a lot of smaller items - kindles, kitchen equipment, ipod etc. So all good.

My DS's MIL has just won a very large sum of money (I'm talking mega large, without wanting to give details) on a TV phone in competition - she's absolutely thrilled to pieces, and can;t believe it, it lovely Smile

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 04/04/2016 13:01

I won a video about Milton (John Whitaker's horse) when I was about 10.

I won a McDonald's drawing competition at around the same time and won tickets to the cinema.

I won a book on mumsnet.

But my best win was in sparkle world magazine a few years ago, when I signed up for an online account and automatically got entered to win all of the prizes in that month's magazine. We got about a dozen prizes, and they were all decent, e.g. a scooter, readybed etc.

We also won that month's cutest pet competition in sparkle world. I must admit that was slightly rigged though, through some heavy Facebook persuasion.

chicaguapa · 04/04/2016 13:16

My BIL and SIL won a holiday in Sardinia from the Mirror. Envy

I have a reputation for winning in raffles. I know it's just luck and I don't buy loads of tickets, just the usual strip or whatever people are generally buying but I can count on one hand the number of times I haven't won anything.

I entered a draw in a supermarket when I was staying with my granny when I was much younger and won a Jane Fonda Workout book and video. I still think of it whenever I hear the Jackson Five.

DownUnderBound · 04/04/2016 13:39

Chrisbishop _ that is literally my travel wish list! India, Australia & Seychelles! Wow you lucky lady!Smile

Before Take a Break started there used to be a monthly magazine called something like "Winner" which was full of competitions. I took it for about a year and entered about 30 competitions a month, but the only thing I won was a yellow plastic lunch box!

Never have won anything major. I got a cook book once.

EweAreHere · 04/04/2016 13:47

I've won things likes books, movies, nail polish, hair supplies, etc. My best prize ever though was a weekend in London which included a nice lunch, one night's stay in a very nice hotel with breakfast (and we got upgraded to a suite!), and VIP tix to a jewellery show and a very nice piece of jewellery (Guardian competition).
