To nitty gritty DH while he sleeps?

DS has / had nits. Every time I think we've got rid of them they reappear. I've been treating me and the DSes every three days so I don't know where they're coming from.

DH is fast asleep, snoring away. I need to know if he is the weak link.

I don't think there's much chance of that euphemia. Once he's asleep, he's asleep and nothing will wake him or so he has claimed for the last four years of parenthood

He claims he is, but because I do both boys and me at the same time I know we're doing it, properly, and he's the only other person here so clearly I'm blaming nits on him.

Do dry nitty gritties work? I'm not sure I can smother him in tea tree conditioner without him realising!

I think it will work in terms of finding out if he has them but you need to do it properly with conditioner if he does have them to get rid obviously.

He should be doing it.

Otherwise you could go through weeks / months of horrible nitty-gritty / treatment yourselves.

Having done nit treatments etc since the start of the January term I would do it. It won't be a proper check, but if there are any big nits you will find them.

What? Why don't you do it when he is awake? DH and I did one another the other day as DD had nits. Its weird to sneakily do it.

Spray his head liberally with insecticide. Or get pest control in.

If you've got a proper nitty gritty comb, wet it and it will pull any big bleeders out if there are any nits in there.
It won't work properly dry, and definitely won't pull out any little cases or tiny ones, but if you somehow wet the comb and his head first you'll get a few out if there are any!
(Spray and leave in conditioner squirted at the back of his head and a quick pull through of a comb should do the trick?!)

Ew, we had some a couple of years back, and DH was all "eww you girls" at us, and when I finally (5 days later when we were back off holiday) said, right, everybody is getting re-checked because I am itching to fuck, him and the boy with their very short hair (him with plenty missing btw, DH I mean) were the worst offenders with full grown louse and us girls with barely anything just a couple of stray unhatched eggs.

I ended up using horse stuff because mine created their own mini universe within my hair

Having had one DD or other come home with nits every single half term this year YANBU to do anything it takes to sort the problem. Maybe not napalm, but anything else short of that is acceptable.

DH has incredibly short hair but still lets me check him. YANBU to get your DH checked, and if sneaking around at night with a spray bottle and a nitty gritty is your solution then go for it

We have nitty grittied, oiled, lyclear conditionered and vamoussed so far this Easter break. DD1 (7) had her hair out of the near-permanent bun I keep her hair in for 3 sodding days (in a tight french plait on those days, she was in her school play and asked for the hair to be down. It was against my better judgement but...) and managed to acquire them.

I think we're done now. I was clear this morning (I wasn't before the vamousse session which costs a small fortune but works for us) as were the DDs when I checked.

WIBU to hand my DDs over on the first day back and say 'Here are my nit free children again. Please can you send them home in the same condition each day?'

I did it. Didn't find any full blown lice but a few suspicious looking blobs that could be eggs.

He laughed when i told him and assures me he's done it 'properly' in the shower this morning.

There will be one poor child in the class with parents who don't deal with them who will continue to pass them on until they either leave the school or your dc moves to a different class. The school will be fully aware but I am not sure how much they can do.

How would you feel if your DH performed some sort of medical examination on you, without permission, whilst you slept?

Believe it or not ifailed, I know DH pretty well. I wouldnt do something to him (sleeping or otherwise) if I thought he'd mind. As I said, he laughed.

Why don't you just treat all three of you with hedrin?

We had the reappearing nits problem, using traditional treatments (combing with nitty gritty plus using an insecticide product). Turns out that in dd's thick curly wavy hair I was missing nymphs (the tiniest baby lice) which, once they developed into adult lice, restarted the infection. You only need to miss one.

Hedrin dealt with the problem in two treatments. The alternative, for boys who are not attached to their locks, is clippers. Quick, cheap and effective.
