. . . to ask how much you pay for your electric

I have just put my meter readings in today and they are OFF THE SCALE!!!!! For some reason I have used more than 25% more this month than last month.

So, I wondered if anyone would mind telling me what they pay as a comparison.

We only have electric (no gas in the village), 4 bed semi, 1930's, shit double glazing, SAHD and 2yr old. This month we used 1288 units which is £160!!!! But last month £112 and month before £122.

£10 a week elec on a meter. Goes up to £15 a week in summer because we use the immersion more. Wish we had the kind of heating system that could heat the water only.

500l of oil between October and mid April. Price varies.

Family of 4, 4 bed terrace. I am a SAHM so here pretty much all the time.

Think we have it pretty good. Some of these are just mad.

happyhearts- £235 a month on fuel! Shock

I have a 5 bed house and I pay £104 a month total. I work from home so power is on all day.

Wombat87 · 03/04/2016 18:34

Oh and I don't heat the 2 spare bedrooms. Ours is a minimum of 18degrees in the daytime. House gets cold

NameChanger22 · 03/04/2016 18:35

There are 2 of us in a 2 bed terrace house. Every time I go upstairs my daughter has left 5 lights on, so I think we cut back a bit when I finally make her realise that electricity is ex. I pay electric and gas quarterly and spend about 400 a year on electric and 500 a year on gas. I switch suppliers often and

NameChanger22 · 03/04/2016 18:37

Woops, I hit the send button mid sentence. I meant to say electricity is expensive (not ex).

And, I switch suppliers often and always ask for the best deals.

RudeElf · 03/04/2016 18:38

£60/month in electric keypad meter. £40/month in oil.
4 bed semi new build.

RudeElf · 03/04/2016 18:39

Sorry, me and two DC. Work part time so some full days at home and some full days out of home.

Pipbin · 03/04/2016 18:39

3 bed semi and I pay £70 for gas and electricity.

RoseDog · 03/04/2016 18:43

£150 a month dd for electric, 3 bed semi, I think for us it's the electric shower and tumble drier that runs up our bills.

I think we are about £40 in gas.

www.moneysavingexpert.com/cheapenergyclub

Moneysavingexpert has an energy club, they show you the tariffs that uswitch etc won't show you.

I got my suppliers off there and found it was cheaper to use seperate suppliers instead of being dual fuel.

Oooblimey · 03/04/2016 18:50

I know pearly! I was stuck on a British Gas fixed tariff until March 2016, I knew it was a bit more expensive but Wow!! I can pay my credit card balance off quicker now!

pearlylum · 03/04/2016 18:51

So pleased for you ooblimey. Hope you are on a 0% interest rate on your credit card though.

SquidgeyMidgey · 03/04/2016 18:57

I pay the electric quarterly, it's normally £200ish but the Dec-Feb bill hits £350. That's for a 3 bed detached, lighting, cooking, tumble drier. The heating and hot water are oil fired which takes about 500 litres a year. God knows why the winter bill is so much more, I don't think I tumble any more...

SootSprite · 03/04/2016 19:08

Definitely recommend having a look on uswitch. We are with First Utility now and pay £75 pcm for both gas and electric on a 4 bed detached house. Well worth checking out and switching.

SootSprite · 03/04/2016 19:09

I tumble dry most of the year through the winter, central heating, electric shower etc

JessieMcJessie · 03/04/2016 19:12

It's "electricITY" people.

"Electric" is an adjective.

RudeElf · 03/04/2016 19:14

dakin1 · 03/04/2016 19:19

Cambidge dictionary

electric
noun [U] /iˈlek.trɪk/

Squiff85 · 03/04/2016 19:23

About £120 a month for a 3 bed mid terrace

kimlo · 03/04/2016 19:23

My direct debit for dual fuel with the co-op is £85. I spoke to a woman when I seitched who said I use less than average on gas, which is because we are out during the week so the heating isnt on, and more than average for electricity, which will be all the washing and drying.

Ifiwasabadger · 03/04/2016 19:24

600 quid a month...but I don't live in the uk. Unhelpful for you OP. Can't believe how much we pay compared to the uk now!

228agreenend · 03/04/2016 19:26

£85 for gas and electricity

dementedma · 03/04/2016 19:32

It was £100 a month gas and electricity combined for upstairs 3 bed flat, but now down to £60 a month for both.
