it's a thread about having bad parents - I'm sure someone will post a link

It comes from a poster being responded to by their parent with regard to their abusive childhood with :

"But we took you to Stately Homes"

it's a thread for survivors of abusive childhoods - I forget which section it's in.

IIRC, it started with a thread entitled "But we took you to stately homes!", this being the parents' idea of being a good parent. Too bad about the emotional abuse and the fact that your children were unhappy and confused by having parents who were narcissists or some other personality disorder, and that the children grew up needing counselling and therapy.

Over time, the shorthand 'Stately Homes' (e.g. 'go and have a look at the Stately Homes threads, you will find useful info there' ) entered the MN lexicon.

It's a great thread, very non judgmental.
