How can they do a manual extraction if it's not in her rectum?

Leeloo might have hit on something. Didn't you mention that someone had said she had a very small anus. Could this be corrected at the same time?

littlemaemae · 11/04/2016 20:33

That is very interesting about opening the anus up. I will ask. Thank you.
I don't know how they will get anything up there to pull it out, it's so tiny. It can't be normal.
And yes, I was wondering how they will remove it as it isn't in the rectum.
Maybe they will wait until it has moved round a bit. I have no idea

How can they do a manual extraction if it's not in her rectum?

They could 'potentially' perform a laparotomy ( exploratory abdominal operation) and then manually 'milk' the bowel - ie squeeze the poo in the right direction through the bowel- until the impaction reaches the rectum. Then perform the manual evacuation.

OP, I hope they can resolve this soon for your little girl.

SquidgeyMidgey · 11/04/2016 21:16

Gosh littlemaemae, your poor little girl. I hope this is resolved swiftly now and they can find a proper way forward. You're an amazing mum Flowers

Oakmaiden · 11/04/2016 22:28

I have been sending you positive thoughts since you started posting about this, but haven't had anything useful to say until now.

I just wanted to say - if her poo isn't even reaching her anus then a small anus is probably the result of not pooing rather than the cause of the problem.

Poor baby. I have been following with such sympathy for you all.
Just want to reassure on the anaesthetic front. My little boy (2.9 now) has been under GA regularly as part of his cancer treatment for more than a year, sometimes weekly for 6 weeks at a time. The worst part is being nil by mouth, the anaesthetic itself isn't too bad, he's asleep in a couple of seconds (can be done either via cannula or gas) and has a good nap afterwards, waking up hungry but fine.
He also spent several months with an NG tube down. Having it put in when conscious (was often done under ga but only if he was going under anyway) was horrendous, but he was used to it within the day and only ever pulled at it in his sleep. Again it's not nearly as bad as I expected it to be.

I hope tomorrow brings you a more positive set of actions and your little one gets some relief.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 11/04/2016 23:17

Bicycle your poor little boy Flowers I can only dream have nightmares about how hard that must be.

giraffesCantReachTheirToes · 12/04/2016 02:05

If they popped an ng down while asleep would be much easier. But explain it first. X

Pou · 12/04/2016 02:44

Oh wow, I read your first thread just after you posted it, then only just found this.

Your poor little girl, and you Flowers. You have done amazing, you really have.

I hope they do a full investigation when they do the manual extraction, at least then they will definitely know what they are dealing with and prevent this from happening again.

Good luck to you all, you have my heartfelt sympathy.

Chimchar · 12/04/2016 06:59

Hoping today brings some relief for your poor baby.

Thinking of you all.

Can your let your older dd's teacher know too, maybe they can give her some extra praise, or cut her some slack......It is likely she will share what is going on at news time and it will be good for her to have some support too if she needs it.

looking forward to a happy ending very soon for you all.

kelda · 12/04/2016 07:08

Thinking of you today. It is very hard to see your child suffering and no parent wants to see their child go through what your dd is going through, and the thought of a GA, manual extraction etc must all be very scary. You will stay strong for her because you know that is the best way of caring for her. You will both get through this.

TheAussieProject · 12/04/2016 08:31

No wise words, but a big hug all the way from New Caledonia. I've been reading you since your first post and I hope this nightmare comes to an end soon.

Big hugs!!!

fraggle84 · 12/04/2016 08:44

Hope you get a plan from the doctor today

littlemaemae · 12/04/2016 08:57

Bicycle, that brought me to tears. I am so sorry for what your family are going though and your poor little boy. I am thinking of you Thanks
Yes, I have let the teacher know. She is lovely. DD went into school very happy.
We are prepared, bags packed for whatever the plan might be today.
We might be lucky and something may change.
I realise the procedure now and I'm not so worried. Thanks everyone xx

Hope everything's ok and you now have a plan Thanks

littlemaemae · 12/04/2016 18:16

They can't get in touch with Leicester so will try again tomorrow(!) a bit annoying as we are in limbo.

She has since swollen up again and is doubled over in pain, then playing and singing then in pain again.

I will post another picture of the distension.
We have called the hospital and waiting for a call back.
I don't know what more they can do for her there. As consultant told me yesterday they have exhausted all options.
I don't know how the pressure in her stomach can be relieved.
I'm panicking and scared. Don't have the comfort of a plan b.
