Both my children had growing pains, as did I when I was their age. No cause found apart from slight hyper-mobility in us all. At least 3 doctors ascribed our symptoms to 'growing pains'.

Hissy · 04/04/2016 18:07

No probs Green. I was categorically told that I couldn't catch chicken pox via a third party...

I got it via a colleague whose kids had it, ds got it from a nursery child friend whose baby brother had it.

Consultants really can say the most ridiculous things sometimes.

ReedBunting · 04/04/2016 18:45

We mixed a sachet of movicol into a small pot of petit filous / couple of tablespoons yoghurt to get it into DS1 when he refused to drink it. It worked very well and is definitely worth considering if you are having problems getting her to drink it.

MakeItRain · 04/04/2016 20:06

How has she been today?

gymboywalton · 04/04/2016 20:09

the orthopeadic consultant we see about my son's joint problems says there is no such thing as growing pains and that he hates the term. There is ALWAYS a reason. The reason may be hypermobility- that is an actual valid reason.

Pannacott · 04/04/2016 22:40

Could limb pain be hypokalemia - it's where you take in lots of fluids and potassium gets washed away. Basically the salts are out of balance. It's the aching that you get in limbs with a hangover. Easily rectified by eating something with potassium in it, or some Dioralyte or something similar.

Mummyme1987 · 04/04/2016 23:50

Hyper mobility syndrome or eds type 3 can cause bowel issues, growing pain type pains, fatigue and very often constipation. More than just hypermobility.

littlemaemae · 05/04/2016 08:48

I have just read the posts re growing pains, I have no knowledge on the subject myself. The problem seems to be conflicting advice being given my doctors.
It sounds like sometimes it's very likely it could be joint pain due to ligaments stretching 'growing'.
and other times a very frustrating and dangerous fob off, green and her poor DC are an example of this.
I do hope you child is ok now green.
Xx

We have had next to no movement Since Sunday, have upped the Senna.
Was hopeful she would be almost there by now.
Looks like it will be a few more weeks.
I think we have been dealing with it all wrong and she has probably been impacted for a very long time.
She is comfortable and happy, HV is coming to plot her height and weight tomorrow.
I feel like doing a 'guess the weight, win the turkey' kind of thing with the extra baggage in her tummy, my guess is 1kg Grin

Did you know that there are things you can do that help relax the muscles and make point easier?

One of them is blowing bubbles! My DS spent much of his childhood blowing bubbles on the loo after dinner!

You could set up some fun assault courses - running and blowing involved which should really help. If you have a gym ball bouncing on that or rolling over it on tummy also helps!

Also have you ever googled the stomach massage? It helps to get things moving along!

littlemaemae · 05/04/2016 09:31

That's a great idea, sounds like lots of fun.
We have lots of bubbles.
And I will get a gym ball if we manage to pop out today, will help with the half term boredom anyway!
It already feels like it been an eternity. Dd(6) can't wait to go back to school.
I will find out if we have a local tumble tots or similar to take her to regularly too, to keep her muscles engaged.

JocastaFarquhar · 05/04/2016 09:41

I find that tummy massage and cycling legs (which I help her with) really helps (and a get the poo out song at the same time!). A regular regime of freshly squeezed OJ with a dash of brown sugar keeps things oiled (and might taste nice with movicol).

BoatyMcBoat · 05/04/2016 10:27

Cut the top off a water melon and give it to her with a spoon! Tastes great, has (some) fibre, and loads of liquid. You could scoop the top out and liquidise with Movicol, as an alternative.

soupmaker · 05/04/2016 12:02

Blowing up a ballon is good for helping things along too. We have a supply in the bathroom cupboard. Also getting your DD to have her feet on a step or the like so her legs aren't dangling off the toilet seat. A regular routine was one of the keys for us. Our DD1 goes every morning now after breakfast.

Keep on keeping on Mae.

littlemaemae · 05/04/2016 17:46

We have an update!
DD's consultant has requested she goes into hospital for a few days to have her disimpaction monitored and all of the relevant tests done hursprungs, chrons, ceoliacs etc.
And an X-ray.
We are waiting for a bed to become free.

I feel sick, I'm really scared. Don't even know why as this is really positive and is a real result!

DD will be so upset and DD6 will be in a state, she can't leave my side for 2 minutes.

OP posts:
GreenMarkerPen · 05/04/2016 17:50

it is scary.
but also really positive.

Goingtobeawesome · 05/04/2016 17:53

I really hope this is progress. Good luck.

DonttouchthatLarry · 05/04/2016 17:54

That's great news - sounds like he's taking it seriously now and things will be sorted Smile

lamusic · 05/04/2016 17:57

Your getting somewhere! It's scary but it will be worth it SmileThanks

Chilver · 05/04/2016 18:05

Fantastic news! I realise it might be scary for all of your but great that the doctors are being proactive about it. Good luck!

Cagliostro · 05/04/2016 18:07

Oh wow. Totally understand your feelings, it IS positive but of course it's scary too! Thanks

bakeoffcake · 05/04/2016 18:20

It is scary BUT it is good news for your DD in the long run.Flowers

I hope your other DD is ok too.

AnyFucker · 05/04/2016 18:23

Good news. This has to happen. Or a couple of months from now you will be right back where this thread started.

Youarentkiddingme · 05/04/2016 18:31

Scary - yes. But great news they are taking it seriously.

And you know what? You'll cope amazingly as you've found your inner tiger since the first thread started. Take note book with questions and write down answers. Write down other things as they come up or if you don't understand something ask for it to be explained.

I'll be thinking of you and DD.

TheGhostOfBarryFairbrother · 05/04/2016 18:31

Good news! Thinking of you all xx
