Our wonderful builder!

I know it's not an AIBU but I just want to tell everyone about our wonderful builder.

Some of you may remember my DF and DGF died in August, this meant that I inherited their house ( the family home where originally the whole family lived). It's been a complete nightmare to clear out we are on skip number 15!

Well we decided to convert the garage into a room and the electrician recommended a builder! I was expecting not to be able to afford the conversion tbh but no this guy came and I explained that yes it's a huge house in a nice area but that no we aren't loaded and that it depended on the quote as to whether or not we could actually do this.

Not only did he come back with a very affordable price he's been bloody amazing! Really thinks things through, asks before doing something if he's not sure, and is clean and tidy!

I am so amazed and thankful that this guy came into our lives to make a painful experience one that is so much easier!

Not an AIBU just a shout out to people who are still honest and decent that they are appreciated!!

That is all folks as you were!

Usually we ask for a name and shame so I think a name and promote is in order! (is that allowed?)

wannadancethenightaway · 01/04/2016 19:30

Oh wow! I like a good news story. I think your DF and DGF have been looking down on you Smile glad it's worked out and I hope you're happy in your newly converted home! X

BitchyComment · 01/04/2016 19:43

Has he completely finished and have you settled up. I'd be wary about singing his praises until well after completion.

My builder was amazing too. The only bad thing about him is that he's always booked up.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/04/2016 20:08

Wait till you are living up to your ears in brickdust and your builder goes home to his nice, cleam all mod-cons house.

Then they feel like they've moved in.

And say "I don't like green in a kitchen" It's MY blardy house. I like green Confused

Fizzie he sounds like a diamond .

useyourimagination · 01/04/2016 20:12

Sounds like the builder that did my extension. He came in with an extremely reasonable quote and despite the anticipated niggles and snagging the price we paid in the end was exactly what he quoted twelve months earlier. He's earnt our repeated business as result as I suspect your builder will have done (it's a lovely feeling to be able to say 'my builder').

elephantoverthehill · 01/04/2016 20:18

I've got a lovely plumber. And I'm not going to let on his name to anyone. He rang and complained that I had paid him too much last time he did some work. I love hearing good news stories. I am pleased for you OP.

Fizzielove · 01/04/2016 23:40

He has finished the work and it is to a much higher standard than I expected! He went above and beyond sorting out problems the other tradesmen had caused ( like the gas plumber and his bloody pipes running everywhere!) and his bill didn't go up!
I've now asked him to sort out the kitchen ( almost finished) and the bathroom!

I'm so glad to hear others have too found good people cos they seem to be few and far between and usually take the lazy route.

That's fantastic to hear OP.

During the storm last Monday, we lost a fence panel. Because we're a semi detached, it needed replacing immediately because of the dog, and the fact everyone could see straight in to our garden. The last panel we ordered from B&Q cost £37 and that didn't include delivery.

Anyway, being Easter Monday I thought we had no chance of getting a same day delivery, but I rang a local company and even though they were working flat out, due to the storm, they said they'd try to fit us in but it might be as late as 8pm (fine, no problem).

Anyway, the guy turned up at 8.20pm, apologised for being 'late', fitted the panel himself (we didn't expect him to do that) said it should come to £32 including delivery but he insisted on knocking a fiver off because he was 'late' and the panel had a blemish on it (we can't even see the 'blemish').

It was just so nice to have that kind of service, during a storm on a bank holiday too, and yet they didn't take the piss with their prices.

I found them on Facebook and made sure I thanked them on their page.

Fantastic OP. It' sounds very much like this is helping to make this painful time bearable for you.

I have a terrific handy man that does a bit of everything, and a bit of alright to boot. Married though!

Shakes fist at Mrs handyman..

CalleighDoodle · 02/04/2016 10:41

Worra i need about 4 new fence panels in the nw. Any good for me?

MangoBiscuit · 02/04/2016 11:14

I love hearing a good builder story! The builders who converted our loft were lovely too. Really up front and honest about disruption, far more than anyone else who gave us an estimate. They were really considerate, kept mess to a minimum, hoovered my carpet more than I do! The quality of work was really good, price was fair, kept well in budget, and they were really lovely with our DCs. We're in Southampton, happy to pass on details if anyone wants, just PM me.

BitOutOfPractice · 02/04/2016 11:21

I'd love a recommendation for a reliable handyman in the NE. A guy came last summer to re seal my shower, scraped sealant off, said he'd leave it to dry out for a day or two and never came back! Left his stuff too...

9goodtree · 21/08/2017 08:57

Fissielove. I live near southampton. We are looking for a builder for remodeling our kitchen. Is it possible for you to pass me the contact details of the builder you hired?
