To read every thread thinking "is this a journo"?

Just that really. In light of recent threads being used (obviously or otherwise) as fodder for the daily fail I'm now reading all threads wondering not only if the OP is a troll but now wondering if they are a journalist.

I feel as though every post I make should have a disclaimer on the end stating that I do not give permission for it to be used by any media source other than mumsnet.

AIBU to think this has slightly tainted the mn experience?

YANBU. There do seem to be a lot of threads that set off my 'journalist' radar.

I understand what you mean, but it's a risk you take when posting on any public forum.
Thankfully I'm far far too dull for any journos to take and interest.

The dullest threads seem to make it onto Matthew Wright and The Daily Mail. I never post anything I care much about being nicked by a lazy journalist.

Don't read the fail or watch Matthew Wright so no idea which threads get picked up by them. I imagine it's some poor recent grad desperately trying to come up with ideas for segments so they don't lose their job. Not realising there is much more to life then that

Usually when threads are picked up elsewhere it's noted on the thread. Someone comes along and says' OP you're famous' with a link to the DM etc.

I'm part of a Shit London Facebook group and the pics on there often get snatched up by the Evening Standard / Metro and such like. In the main other sources to tend to credit MN so I can't get too worked up about it tbh.

No, I think most are trolls, especially when I do a search on their user name and they either don't have any other threads or very few.

Maybe go outside for a bit? Its only a website. I can't really understand this proprietary attitude to what is after all only a parenting website.
That said, it's clear that mumsnet is an invaluable support to some people and the support network is clearly effective. So it's interesting how a website that markets itself as a cutesy big sister figure that it's regulars adore so much don't do anything to keep vulnerable posters in a private domain or prevent their material being used by other media.
Mumsnet is a business, nothing more. And to that end, as with any business, customers are exploited. Otherwise it would be a charity or a support group.

What's wrong with journalists?

YANBU. I'm a qualified journalist myself, though not currently working in the industry (fed up of the nasty atmosphere surrounding it). The problem is that reporters who trawl message boards to find stories are just lazy hacks who spit out crappy material. It's quite pathetic.
