That the nursery didn't change DD's

Nappy for 4 hours. I dropped her off at 8 and she wasn't changed until 12. She's 18 months and would have been changed twice in that time as she wees loads. They are normally quite chunky after her naps (TMI I know!)
Appreciate I've only got her though and they have others to change.
She's got nappy rash tonight 🙁
Genuinely I don't know whether to mention it to them tomorrow or just leave it.

DD is 26 months and changed first thing, at lunch, at tea (dirty nappy), before bed. And to be honest she doesn't need it any of those occasions apart from first thing - but I wouldn't leave her in the same nappy all day as it's a bit grim.

But obviously your DD needs changing more often as she drinks a lot (which is great!) and has sensitive skin. Tell the nursery she needs changing every 2-3 hours and I'm sure they will honour that.

It's hardly a worryingly long time for most dc, so I wouldn't be furious with them, however if you feel your dd needs changing more frequently, then you need to let them know that, and I'm sure they will. No point in leaving it another day or two to see what happens.

shazzarooney99 · 29/03/2016 23:28

Perhaps you need to cut down on her drinks before she goes?, sad thing is a baby will be left sleeping in a nappy for 6 hours or more at this age, does sound like your filling her with drinks before she goes there to be honest.

ElderlyKoreanLady · 29/03/2016 23:30

DD is fairly rash resistant but the only time she goes 8 hours or more is when she sleeps at night.

That said, in reply to the OP, 4 hours isn't excessive. Do they know she's prone to nappy rash? If you've not told them and they've never seen it, they won't realise that 4 hours isn't on.

ginplease83 · 29/03/2016 23:33

No not at all. She has a milk first thing at 6am and then with breakfast she has a beaker of water. I'll not deprive her of drinks if she's thirsty, she's thirsty. G she wasn't thirsty she wouldn't drink it.

OP, just make the nursery know she's prone to nappy rash and they will change her more frequently.

Picturesofmatchstickmen · 29/03/2016 23:39

If she is prone to nappy rash and sleeps 12 hours with a very heavy nappy in the morning, then surely she must have nappy rash all the time? Is it more that you are annoyed on principle that they didn't change it if you're honest? Four hours no biggie in modern nappies afaic

Xmasbaby11 · 29/03/2016 23:41

OP I agree, don't cut down on her drinks. It's great she is a good drinker.

There are babies at DD's nursery who have their nappies changed every 2 hours because of nappy rash or some such issue - just tell them and they will make a note of it. It needs to be noted because most babies are fine for 4 hours - although it is a little long for nursery.

nocabbageinmyeye · 29/03/2016 23:45

My dd goes to creche 3.5 hours a day and I'd be pissed off if she wasn't changed once, even if it was just before pick up. I've not thought about it much though as she has just always been changed so if she wasn't I'd be annoyed as it would be unusual, if you see what I mean? More often than not she's changed twice in that time as she loves a poo in a fresh nappy Grin

I wouldn't be going in ranting but a quick "dd is prone sore bums can you make sure she is changed, thanks a mill"

8 hours is rank and frankly unfair

ginplease83 · 29/03/2016 23:45

I absolutely coat her bottom in sudocream and I think that helps over night.
I think they only changed her twice in the whole day looking at it again. I will check in the morning but I only really saw that she hasn't been changed until lunchtime. She was there 8-5.30.

Not at night obviously but by day 8 hours is rank

Once I was suspicious my DS nappy wasn't getting changed at nursery (he was there 7 hours a day) so I put a little pen mark where it was really subtle & low & behold, 7.5 hours later it was still there. After they swore blind the nappy rash was from home. I ripped them a new one & he never had it after that.

Bring it up OP. We pay an extortionate amount for nursery & they should listen to you.

My nursery change every 3ish hours as standard and then extra if soiled supposedly.

DD is in nursery 3 consecutive days and every week without fail by day 3 her bum would be red raw with nappy rash. It would clear up over her 4 days off and then reappear like clockwork when she went back to nursery. It took a LOT of reminders and an escalation to room manager before they consistently increased the frequency of changes which fixed things. Just talk to your nursery about it. I'm sure they would change your DC more often if you kick up a fuss.

Blueberry234 · 30/03/2016 00:24

We leave nappy overnight so approx 12 hours, change on waking then usually 30 mins later as he poos, then after lunch, after nap then bed (obv more if he poos)

My old CM did 2 a day and nursery do 3 hourly

teeththief · 30/03/2016 00:34

She does sleep 12 hours but her nappy is ridiculously heavy in the morning bless her

Do you not think that could be the cause of her nappy rash??

Vixyboo · 30/03/2016 00:40

I work with children and have my own toddler DS. My DS drinks loads. I change him roughly 5 times a day. He never gets nappy rash when I look after him. Occasionally he does when other people look after him. I am paranoid about keeping him clean and dry. I want him to be comfortable and as a result he is. The children I work with never have have rashes in my care as I strive to ensure I change them as regularly I would my own son.

there nothing wrong with what the nursery is doing but if your not happy ask for a more frequent change.

waterunderthebridge · 30/03/2016 08:25

Good grief Umbongo Hmm

UmbongoUnchained · 30/03/2016 17:35

What?

Twixthecat · 30/03/2016 17:55

Personally I would leave DS longer than 4 hrs when he was that age as long as no poo and not by his knees. But then he never normally really got nappy rash. Have you tried a different brand of nappies? He suffered something awful with pampers and Sainsburys nappies but Boots, and Tesco he's fine.

However I'd definitely say something to the nursery about the nappy rash. In a polite way ask them to change her mid morning as she is sensitive to nappy rash.
