To think that little bow in the middle of your bra is condescending

I got two new nursing bras today and noticed they both had little ribbon type bows in the centre cleavage.. I thought why on earth do I need a small bow between my boobs? Went to check all my other bras and every single one (even the most unsexy utilitarian bra) has a bow. Aibu to think a grown woman does not need a ribbon bow between her breasts? Or have I got too much time on my hands?!

EponasWildDaughter · 31/03/2016 16:41

I love them. Frills, bows and the odd crystal.

Currently wearing a luminous pink bra with quite big bows where the strap meets the cups and I like the way they peep out from behind the straps on a vest top.

Goingtobeawesome · 31/03/2016 16:46

I'm assuming someone has already pointed out to Vim that one doesn't need a seam on a bra to work out which way they go..

ElviraCondomine · 31/03/2016 16:49

I grew up in a town where the local lingerie factory had closed down a few years previously. It took me years to realise that all the little 'bits' we had at primary school for adding to art projects/ cards etc (bows, flowers, those little tennis racquets etc) were made to go on bras and pants. (There were enormous bags of them in the art cupboard at school.) No wonder my mother found it funny when we brought home Christmas cards adorned with tiny red and white bows!

SpidersFromMars · 31/03/2016 16:49

I hate the one on my pants, the one between the bra cups, and the two on the straps.

I don't need them, they are pointless, and I don't know why they are standard.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 31/03/2016 17:16

I need the wee bows on my knickers or else they inevitably end up back to front.

Never been offended by the ones on bras.

Wdigin2this · 31/03/2016 18:16

I'm a lingerie-aholic! I can't resist buying matching sets, (wouldn't consider a bra without matching Knickers) and the prettier, the more feminine, the more bows and frills....the better!

TheFogsGettingThicker · 31/03/2016 18:33

front fastening bra

and another

t-shirt style

The good thing about front fastening bras, there's no room in the middle for a bow...Grin

almostenglish · 31/03/2016 18:43

I haven't read any of the responses but just wanted that OMG no, YANBU!!

I have been complaining to no one/my husband about this fecking bow! Why??? I'm not 3 years old!!

Plus I find it so unsexy, I want to look hot in my underwear not like I'm about to go to a tea party.

NBU at all!

LongHardStare · 31/03/2016 18:48

I have in the past spent hours trying to find bowless, frill-free bras. I think they look ridiculous and are the opposite of sexy. And why would I want to take a pair of scissors to my brand new expensive bra? Just stop putting the fucking crappy bits of ribbon on every single design.

TheCrumpettyTree · 31/03/2016 19:13

I don't like bows, my most hated bow related thing are bow tattoos.

MrsJayy · 31/03/2016 19:43

My 18yr old loves a bow she thought she had died and gone to bow heaven when she found a woman who made super hero bows they are huge

Unicow · 31/03/2016 19:46

I don't have any bows on my bras...

TaraCarter · 31/03/2016 20:03

I have actually checked now and I only have two bras (bought as a twinpack) with bows, and one with a very discreet button.

So I can tell all and sundry that BHS do cheap non-underwired bras without any kind of adornment and M&S do twinpacks of standard non-exciting sports bras without bows or tennis racquets.

Fill yer boots!

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 31/03/2016 20:55

I like the bows

Lweji · 31/03/2016 21:31

You could have a big bow instead, OP.

Shakey15000 · 31/03/2016 21:37

No. The bows don't bother me. Or signify anything to me other than that it is....a bow.

If they did bother me, I would buy ones that didn't have them.

Dumbledoresgirl · 31/03/2016 22:27

I've just checked the bra and non matching pants I have on today (like 1000s of others here, I'm sure). Neither has a bow. I'm not sure what that says about me or the prevalence of bows on ladies' underwear.

TaraCarter · 31/03/2016 22:33

Lweji Where is that from?!

Lweji · 31/03/2016 22:43

It showed up on a quick google search, but the site would be: www.upliftcustombras.com/its-here

TaraCarter · 31/03/2016 23:24

I have found it to buy, I think! Not sure they do my size, but That Is Not The Point.

VestalVirgin · 01/04/2016 11:58

I have never bought a piece of clothing with a bow on it for myself. Yes, I would find it condescending in a "if you are female, you have to looove unnecessary decorative details!" way, to find them on a piece of clothing I had no other choice but to buy (like I assume a nursing bra is)

On the other hand, I like it when they have things to show where the outside and the inside is, because I am the sort of person who puts things on the wrong way round when I don't pay attention. But I assume that's something that happens to men, too, and they don't get bows on their undershirts and stuff.

Dexterjamesmummy · 01/04/2016 12:05

As someone with a degree in lingerie design I can explain the bows a bit. One it's perceived value for money, if it's a bit more decorative people think they are getting something better for their money, this also explains the prints inside the back necks of pyjamas and nighties. They are also used to hide dodgy stitching, the apex of the bra especially (where the strap meets the cup) has quite a lot of stitching on it, this can be quite ugly but is easily hidden under a bow.

OmaC · 01/04/2016 12:59

I hated anything lacy as it was cause itching, Ended up with cotton whenever possible. Nursing bras were too fiddly just ended up hitching it up

LynetteScavo · 01/04/2016 13:34

I like the bow.

I've just checked the bra I'm wearing. It's black, but has a bright pink bow, which I'd never noticed before! Confused

So, obviously I don't like the bow enough to actually notice it. Hmm

LondonHuffyPuffy · 01/04/2016 13:39

Vastra the 10p was to make an emergency phone call (I am so old that it was a 2p in my day). Hanky for emergency cleaning. String for emergency repairs e.g. to shoelace. You also had to have a little pencil and noteboook in my day, for emergency notes. Or something. And a safety pin I think. All kept in a little brown purse on your belt.

I don't care about the bows.
