To think that little bow in the middle of your bra is condescending

I got two new nursing bras today and noticed they both had little ribbon type bows in the centre cleavage.. I thought why on earth do I need a small bow between my boobs? Went to check all my other bras and every single one (even the most unsexy utilitarian bra) has a bow. Aibu to think a grown woman does not need a ribbon bow between her breasts? Or have I got too much time on my hands?!

When I was a child I insisted all bows were to be removed from all my vests and knickers. Still hate bows now.

wonkylegs · 29/03/2016 21:02

My bra doesn't have a bow, it has a silk button. I'll have to look at the others.
Doesn't bother me in the slightest, I'm just thrilled when I find bras that fit me (30J atm)

3littlebadgers · 29/03/2016 21:03

Lordy me, I just went to see if my bra had bows on, and ponder if they offended me, or not, and I've just found out I'm not wearing one! Shock Where the hell did that go?

IThinkIMadeYouUpInsideMyHead · 29/03/2016 21:08

They get in the bloody way when I'm trying to restitch the top bit where the underwire pokes out of my £50 bra Angry

hazeyjane · 29/03/2016 21:08

I'll tell you what is condescending

The teeny tiny tennis rackets in the middle of my sports bra, as if I am going to actually 'do sport' in it.

Ridiculous

SecretsAndStuff21 · 29/03/2016 21:18

I like little bows and lament the lost era of tiny rosebuds between the
( diminutive) cups of my bra.

eatsleephockeyrepeat · 29/03/2016 21:19

I once cut the bows off a couple of my bras - didn't go with my practical, tomboy look. I was unexpectedly appalled at how wide the gap between my boobs suddenly seemed to be! Honestly it looked all wrong. Try it: there's clearly some serious "trompe l'oeil" going on with the bows.

Akire · 29/03/2016 21:22

I don't buy bras with bows on ever- or pants- or slippers or anything! Bows are for little girls or presents. I think it's supposed to be feminine and pretty. If I want pretty I will buy a Lacey or sexy number or patterned. If I'm buying a plain black t shirt bra no bows please.

JasperDamerel · 29/03/2016 21:23

I like having something in the bit between cups. It doesn't have to be a bow, though. I quite like moderately frilly underwear, though.

WavingFlag · 29/03/2016 21:23

I've got 3 buttons on the cleavage of one of my bras, 3!! The rest all have teeny bows. Never really thought about it until now.
Frilly bits defo annoy me thoHmm

pandakitchen · 29/03/2016 21:27

Just checked have a tiny bow and a romantic little rose bud in the middle and a delicate bow on each strap- not sure a few bows and rose buds is going to make my big back breaking bossom any more delicate!

FreeButtonBee · 29/03/2016 21:27

The bows piss me off. I have fucking enormous boobs and a twee little bow between the troops does not make them look more pert or perky. I do quite like my nursing bras for their utilitarian look although I won't miss the monoboob look.

littlejeopardy · 29/03/2016 21:27

I like bows. I think they are pretty... That's about how deep my thoughts go on that one.

FreeButtonBee · 29/03/2016 21:27

It's like the per una little hearts. Why?!

Heyheyheygoodbye · 29/03/2016 21:28

A seamstress friend of mine once told me the bows are on so when they're finishing the bras in the factories they can tell very quickly which way is the outside.

Akire · 29/03/2016 21:28

I understand they are pretty now and again but it's almost like its the law! If 80% of t-shirts had little bows on the front surely we would think it's odd?

Luciferbox · 29/03/2016 21:29

Yanbu I agree

FreeButtonBee · 29/03/2016 21:29

I do like a bit of frou frou in the indie department but a little bow doesn't make my orthopaedic nude bras any prettier 🙄

MadeMan · 29/03/2016 21:30

I feel the same way about the big gold medallion on the front of my pants; it really annoys me and just grinds against my belt buckle all day long.

Sparklingbrook · 29/03/2016 21:31

No, I am not getting the bow angst at all.

2016IsANewYearforMe · 29/03/2016 21:32

The teeny, tiny bows and sometimes rosebuds are quite traditional. Sewing a bra is difficult with lots of fiddly bits and tight angles and corners. If the centre doesn't appear to have come together perfectly, then obscuring any small faults or messy seams with a bow or rosebud is a good solution.

These little touches are becoming less common now. Industrial sewing equipment and techniques are better than ever, so there is no need to go to the extra trouble and expense. And of course, as this thread illustrates, tastes have changed!

Rosenwyn · 29/03/2016 21:33

Fucking hate those bows.

plimsolls · 29/03/2016 21:34

I have never ever thought about this before OP but I now completely agree. I'm always snipping the bows off ballet-style pumps. I shall now do it to my bras.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 29/03/2016 21:34

I don't own a bra with a bow Shock
