To think eating cereals without milk is just weird

My dh thinks I am weird because I do not like milk on cereals as it makes them soggy. I eat them without milk and like them like this.
I don't like dunking my biscuits in my tea (soggy - big yuk).
I don't like the pastry base at the bottom of home made lemon meringue pie (soggy -yuk!) and leave it on the plate.

There is a theme.

I find "soggy" to be yuk and not nice.

Am I the only one?

My aunt wont drink milk and has water on her weetabix! It looks like cement!! [bleugh!!!]

londonrach · 28/03/2016 08:25

Dont understand wet cereal either. Yanbu and your dh yabu. [tbugrin)

Grrr... (Tbugrin)

eurochick · 28/03/2016 08:47

I like it dry too. Maybe a bit of yoghurt on granola. Never milk!

It's definitely singular in the uk. I've heard cereals in the US though.

wobblywindows · 28/03/2016 09:32

I can eat dry, prefer a spoonful of milk so the bitty ones eg pops stick to the spoon better & don't fly off everywhere. I make porridge with just water and optionally add a dash of milk or cream to serve, or jam, or syrup. Milk is overrated - I use organic. I definitely don't do weetabix.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/03/2016 09:35

My father loathed milk and cream, and wouldn't touch anything that even looked as if it had milk in it. He would have cereal (usually Grape Nuts) with orange juice.

Surprised how many milk haters there are here. I don't like milk or cream either, though not as fanatical as my father, and I often feel I'm a weirdo, especially when I tell people I don't have milk in my tea - yuck. The number of people who don't even ask and assume everybody likes it....grrrr

RaskolnikovsGarret · 28/03/2016 10:09

When I was growing up, a family friend used to get eczema from milk. His mum therefore let him have his cereal doused in coca cola. Shock I guess they did what they had to do.

WeAllHaveWings · 28/03/2016 10:10

I know someone who has their muesli with orange juice mixed in. They tried it once when they had run out of milk and always have it that way now. I tried it once and it was okay, very fruity, but prefer milk.

Drinksforeveryone · 28/03/2016 10:19

I say cereal. DH and his family say cereals. We grew up 7 miles apart - much broader Yorkshire accents where he is from.

Odd :)

MamaBear98 · 28/03/2016 10:35

I don't like milk at all so certainly never have it in my cereal-dry cereal is the best Smile In fact I love Cheerios so much that they were the main thing I gave up for Lent and I enjoyed devouring some yesterday since Lent's over Grin

LumelaMme · 28/03/2016 10:41

I've just eaten a crispy cake made with cornflakes.
Does that count as cereal without milk? Grin

Stickymum · 28/03/2016 10:56

The only breakfast I have with milk is porridge, the rest I have dry except for weetabix which I have butter and jam on.

Fallstar · 28/03/2016 11:08

My oldest DC would never put milk on his cereal. He was utterly bemused that anyone would pour a drink on their breakfast.

I don't have milk or cereal...

Lweji · 28/03/2016 12:19

DS also eats his cereal dry and hates soggy bread.

I don't like white milk, so don't eat cereal with milk either. And water would seem pointless.
I sometimes have yogurt and put some bran cereal on it.

BoatyMcBoat · 28/03/2016 12:22

Shreddies are best kept in a bowl and picked at over time, snack-like. I don't eat cereal as a rule anyway, and prefer milk at room temperature.

Bogeyface · 28/03/2016 14:35

I know someone who hates milk so he eats cornflakes with water!

My friend and I were both a bit goggled at that and asked why he didnt just have toast for breakfast and the look on his face suggested that he had never thought of that :o

ShortyShortLegs · 28/03/2016 17:32

I love cereal with loads of milk, so the cereal is almost floating BUT, I can't stand soggy cereal, so have to eat it immediately and quickly...I have been known to issue a warning that I will be unavailable for five minutes whilst I eat, so if anyone needs anything, they'd better speak up before I pour my milk Grin

Beeziekn33ze · 29/03/2016 09:15

Some DGC prefer dry cereal in a bowl, sometimes with raisins added, to eat like crisps.

AnnPerkins · 29/03/2016 09:40

My favourite way to eat cereal is with lots of ice cold top of the milk. But I eat it quickly so the cereal stays crispy.

I can't eat soggy bread or pastry though

ameliaesmith · 29/03/2016 11:18

YABU - soggy is nice!

LordoftheTits · 29/03/2016 13:52

I have real issues with texture (Aspergers) but I don't mind cereal with milk. One cereal I do like to eat dry though is Apricot Wheats, I can shovel half a box in without thinking Blush

Waxlyrically · 29/03/2016 16:42

Milk and cream make me gag - I don't even like to see them! Not surprisingly if I eat cereal at all it is dry

polyhymnia · 29/03/2016 18:04

When I was a student long ago, often used to eat buttered Weetabix - not very healthy, but delicious.

topcat2014 · 29/03/2016 19:49

I need to add the milk myself, from the carton, direct from the fridge. This means I struggle with hotels where the milk is already out - how long has it been there?
