To think eating cereals without milk is just weird

My dh thinks I am weird because I do not like milk on cereals as it makes them soggy. I eat them without milk and like them like this.
I don't like dunking my biscuits in my tea (soggy - big yuk).
I don't like the pastry base at the bottom of home made lemon meringue pie (soggy -yuk!) and leave it on the plate.

There is a theme.

I find "soggy" to be yuk and not nice.

Am I the only one?

Can't stand cereal but the DC like it sometimes. Dd has it without milk, ds always with milk and if it's cold out, hot milk.

I also allow them to mix cereal up, so a scoop of Frosties and one of another. My ex mil was horrified and said it was broaching on anarchy and they were not to be mixed. She's French so a little dramatic.

NewLife4Me · 27/03/2016 15:53

I like it dry too, but also like milk.
warm milk and weetabix is lovely.
The skin on pudding and custard is just the best.

Notso · 27/03/2016 15:54

Cereal is rank. Milk is rank.

diddl · 27/03/2016 16:00

How does it go soggy with milk?

I guess mine doesn't have timeGrinBlush

Wolpertinger · 27/03/2016 16:08

I do not like milk on cereal for the same reason actually I really hate milk fullstop

Breakfast was a big problem until I discovered natural yoghurt. Lidl's massive tubs of Greek yoghurt are lush with muesli. DH's cornflakes with milk look yukky.

At PILs I have to compromise so have Weetabix with the barest minimum amount of milk possible.

VulcanWoman · 27/03/2016 16:17

I think Kelloggs chocolate crunchy nut cluster is made to just eat from the box isn't it Grin
I like a good soaked muesli though.

whereonthestair · 27/03/2016 16:24

I really can't stand milk, it is not the texture but the taste yuk... I either have muesli with a little water, or yoghurt. Perfectly normal.

Sofiria · 27/03/2016 16:31

Dry cereal. Can't stand sogginess!

PestilentialCat · 27/03/2016 16:35

I hate soggy cereal so if I ever have cereal for breakfast which is hardly ever & it has to be crunchy nut cornflakes I add very cold full fat milk & gobble it as quickly as possible Grin

I don't really class muesli as being "cereal" - much nicer IMO than cornflakes etc - I quite like it soaked for a bit so I don't break my teeth

PestilentialCat · 27/03/2016 16:37

As I child I ate weetabix dry with butter & jam on top Grin

Hulababy · 27/03/2016 16:38

13y DD never has milk on cereals. She does't like milk and, although she has tried various yogurts, she still prefers cereals without. She just eats them dry.

Yseulte · 27/03/2016 16:45

I hate milk. Not wild about cereal but I can eat it crunchy with a bit of almond or rice milk.

Not weird. You can buy some cereals as little snack pack bags now (dry, obviously) to be eaten on the go. Have seen Cookie Crisps in multipack bags.
Each to their own, I guess. I MUST have Weetabix and Shredded Wheat with warm milk, nice and soggy. Cold would be vile.

Ex-H used to put so much milk on every cereal that he filled the bowl to the brim, then would have to hold it with two hands and creep slowly to the table with it, usually leaving a trail of milk drips across the floor. Drove me mad. I couldn't see why he couldn't just have two smaller helpings instead, but he said it 'just wasn't the same' Hmm

Kleinzeit · 27/03/2016 17:07

Butter and jam pestilentialcat? Shock Grin

CantWaitForWarmWeather · 27/03/2016 17:13

My DS2 doesn't like milk at all. Fussy toddler.
He has cereal in a bowl and then to make sure he still gets his calcium I give him a yogurt or 2.

Hopefully this is just a phase.

mawbroon · 27/03/2016 17:19

Meh

Kid with dairy intolerance + kid didn't like milk substitutes = dry cereal

No biggie

CantWaitForWarmWeather · 27/03/2016 17:21

I always feel like a crap mum when I give him dry cereal.
This thread is reassuring :)

JeffersonCrisp · 27/03/2016 17:38

The milk to cereal ratio that needs to be that you can eat the cereal before it goes soggy and you don't have loads of milk left in the bowl..

Yoghurt on crumbled weetabix - yum

Vintage45 · 27/03/2016 17:50

One of my DS's does this.

I do use milk but have to eat it super quick though before it gets soggy.

I love the combination of really cold milk and crunchy cereal.

Breadandwine · 27/03/2016 18:20

I rarely eat breakfast, but when I'm on holiday, in a hotel or B&B, I'll have cereal with fruit juice, since I'm a vegan. I look forward to it - it's like having pudding for breakfast! Smile

feralgirl · 27/03/2016 19:30

Vom to soggy cereal; looks like frogspawn. I occasionally put apple juice on muesli and eat it super-fast, or a sprinkle of muesli on yoghurt.

Love porridge though, which is the ultimate soggy cereal.

Drinksforeveryone · 27/03/2016 19:37

Milk is rank - so dry cereal is fine by me.

If I make porridge it is made with water. I hate porridge actually, but it's stodgy and filling when on a diet.

Soggy foods are just wrong. No biscuit dunking here. Or break dunking in soup.

Bleurgh....

itsonlysubterfuge · 27/03/2016 19:40

Trills I'm US I say cereal, my husband is UK he says cereals. I guess it's a family thing. I never heard it called cereals until I came to the UK and my husband said it that way.
