To find my family a bit common and embarrassing

Or am I just pretentious?

They love the cakes at pat Valarie and go on about them. When I think these are vile made off site factory cakes that are frozen.

They played the sam smith album and went on about how good his voice is and all that. Sounds like music for people that dont like music IMO.

They are wolfing down cadburys chocolate saying how delicious it is. Over sweet waxy stuff - give me Mr Roth any day.

I just don't feel on the same level as them. Really average lives and I just have nothing in common with them.

Op, I do get what you're saying, although nothing you've mentioned would be a big deal for me. However, I stopped going to a certain family member at Christmas because I was made to sit & watch an hour long EastEnders - absolute hell.

TimeToMuskUp · 27/03/2016 08:38

You should meet my children. MIL (quite lovely and posh) took them to afternoon tea at Fortnums not long ago, the big one had a 40 minute poop in the loos and the little one looked at his child's sandwiches/cakes and declared to the lovely chap serving us "could you also bring me chips please, I do love the chips". They're such utter scumbags. It makes my heart sing with pride.

Damselindestress · 27/03/2016 08:40

It goes both ways. They probably think you are stuck up yourself

BathshebaEvedene · 27/03/2016 08:41

I love Pattisserie Valerie. I even asked for a whole one as my birthday cake! Never realised I was being so common...

SurferJet · 27/03/2016 08:46

There's a Pat Val in a town near me, defo not posh, It's 2 up from poundland & wilkinsons. but agree, it probably was posh when it started out in central London ages ago.

ilovesooty · 27/03/2016 08:48

I suspect the OP is getting exactly what she wanted from this thread.

Well that cheered me up, must go pick chocolate out of the rug now.....
And I'm listening to heart Biscuit

RichardHead · 27/03/2016 08:55

Did you use 'of' rather than 'have' on purpose? Seems too good to be true to be using common and embarrassing language, to reel everyone in?!

maggiethemagpie · 27/03/2016 08:56

ha ha ha snobbing down her nose at cadbury's choc when she gets hers from aldi!

SlinkyVagabond · 27/03/2016 08:57

Are you 17? Just asking because that's when the family embarrassment gene kicks in. Fret not though because any offspring you may have it too. And lo, you shall be judged.

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 27/03/2016 08:57

So what's your cake/music/chocolate of choice OP?

Do share Grin

ilovesooty · 27/03/2016 08:59

She uses "of" rather than "have" on a regular basis. Not worth mentioning usually but I suppose it might be relevant to her attempt at being edgy and controversial.

ILeaveTheRoomForTwoMinutes · 27/03/2016 09:01

Perfect one for you OPEaster Grin

I don't understand why people type could / should / would of, especially in a forum like this where people are corrected so regularly! Makes my teeth itch... Although not as much as 'alot'. Seeing 'alot' makes me weep.

wizzywig · 27/03/2016 09:04

Booo-keehh residence! Richaaaard!

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 27/03/2016 09:06

Op is soooo me at 15. When I discovered Joy Division and The Cure and became a non mainstream, insufferable arsehole for my family. I mean those generic mouth breathers I lived with.

Is popularist a word? Or do you mean populist btw (which would also be wrong in this context)

holdonfor1moreday · 27/03/2016 09:06

I'm hardly her, my chocolate is cheaper as I clearly said in op.

I'm not posh at all just very different taste to them.

Yes yes to the EastEnders chrstmas day. They also watch that. Its just not to my taste, I fell I have nothing in common.

Anyway I've reported this thread and will flounce. I should of said popular rather than comom.

Pat val and cadburys both used to be nice. Pat val is now all made in a factory and all they do is defrost. Its more embarasing that they still think it is good when the quality of the cakes thsedays are dire.

I think the poster wanting to "treat my family to pat val" is a tad rude, they don't need to be treated they may not have taste but have the money.

You are a snob thats just something you are going to just live with your family might be common but least they are not looking down there nose at you

TheDuchessOfArbroathsHat · 27/03/2016 09:10

I always think that if you're going to sit in judgement on others then you really should be beyond reproach yourself. As previously pointed out, OP, you might want to work on your grammar skills. I fear it may be too late for your personality!

MrsJayy · 27/03/2016 09:10

I watch eastenders my dh would rather poke his eyes out than watch it.

Tfoot75 · 27/03/2016 09:10

How on earth does a cake being made in a factory instead of a bakery make it vile? You do know its just like a large bakery don't you?

just eating my lovely cadburys egg, but not 100% who Sam smith is - the one with the bond song?

ilovesooty · 27/03/2016 09:11

I have reported this thread and will flounce

You mean you got what you wanted and will be on to your next goady name change later on today.

ILeaveTheRoomForTwoMinutes · 27/03/2016 09:11

Oh yes, of course, pull thread because it's not gone your way Easter Grin
