To find my family a bit common and embarrassing

Or am I just pretentious?

They love the cakes at pat Valarie and go on about them. When I think these are vile made off site factory cakes that are frozen.

They played the sam smith album and went on about how good his voice is and all that. Sounds like music for people that dont like music IMO.

They are wolfing down cadburys chocolate saying how delicious it is. Over sweet waxy stuff - give me Mr Roth any day.

I just don't feel on the same level as them. Really average lives and I just have nothing in common with them.

My family can be annoying pretentious and often take the piss out of popular things, many of which I like. Could we perhaps swap?

Spurtle · 27/03/2016 07:37

You are indeed being a pretentious twat. I bet your family have a good laugh about you.

Gobbolino6 · 27/03/2016 07:38

Theyre dragging you down, OP. Go NC immediately. Ummm.

MrsH1989 · 27/03/2016 07:39

I was expecting to see you commenting on how they sit and drink cans of lager whilst belching at each other loudly. Or that they walk the streets swearing and spitting on the ground. A person's like and dislikes don't make them common. I hope someone in your family doesn't find out what you have said about them. God forbid they give you a cadbury easter egg this easter.

Iamnotloobrushphobic · 27/03/2016 07:39

Do you want to swap them for the members of my family who can't speak a sentence without swearing and have been in prison so many times I have lost count.

I wouldn't find Cadbury loving Sam smith fans embarrassing at all in comparison to several members of my family.

Queenbean · 27/03/2016 07:40

Ooh I love these threads - unanimous YABU threads where the OP will never back down

I like Cadbury chocolate but am well posh

And I never said I was better, just that I'm not on their level.

A higher level.....

for preferring Aldi stuff

DoSomethingKirsty · 27/03/2016 07:43

They sell Patisserie Valerie cakes in Selfridges - I suppose that's too mainstream for you?

curren · 27/03/2016 07:43

I'm not saying I'm better, or saying I'm rich as I prefer the aldi chocolate!

Yes you are. You called them common.

holdonfor1moreday · 27/03/2016 07:44

I backed down on page 1...

Anyway I should of just said popularist not common.

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 27/03/2016 07:44

I really thought you were joking, but you seriously judge people based on where they buy their cakes and what music they listen to? And family, not just anyone?!

Seriously, get over yourself and quick, you sound like a right knob!

holdonfor1moreday · 27/03/2016 07:45

They also sell yo sushi in Selfridge's, and I would eat that. Vastly overpriced for what it is and not great sushi.

Queenbean · 27/03/2016 07:45

i backed down on page 1

No op, that's not how it's played! You have to go on for the next 10 pages about how you're very definitely not being unreasonable!

Fadingmemory · 27/03/2016 07:46

Perhaps even now one of your family members is posting about your attitude to them. If you do not mind being considered a snob or pretentious then fine. Do you love your family or are they below the salt in every sense?

MajesticSeaFlapFlap · 27/03/2016 07:47

Its too early, I'm off to eat a chocolate bunny (Aldi so its fine) with a cup of tea

To find my family a bit common and embarrassing
weirdsister · 27/03/2016 07:47

I don't know what patesserie Valerie is and I shop at Aldi. Not keen on cadburys these days either.

I must be well posh.

molyholy · 27/03/2016 07:48

You poor lamb, however do you cope with your mainstream family? I would go NC with the oiks.

But seriously, you don't sound pretentious at all. You do however, sound like a complete arsehole.

greatbigwho · 27/03/2016 07:48

Your poor parents. I hope their other children take them to afternoon tea at Patisserie Valerie and have a lovely afternoon one day.

Hell, I wish MN wasn't anonymous, I'd bloody treat them to it.

Go on then, what music do you like? I'm assuming it's something none of us average plebs have the ears to appreciate, so go on, educate us in your amazing taste.

What's your view on Arctic Roll?

fourage · 27/03/2016 07:58

So funny this thread.

WhatamessIgotinto · 27/03/2016 07:59

And I never said I was better, just that I'm not on their level.

So what do you mean when you said they are 'common and embarrassing'?

To be honest, they probably find you embarrassing; every family has their joke member who everyone takes the piss out of and I fear that, with your delusions of grandeur, that member may be you.

mogloveseggs · 27/03/2016 08:02

I thought patisserie valerie was posh??? Easter Confused

Mummy2squish · 27/03/2016 08:05

Ah damn I thought I was being well posh for suggesting a patisserie Valerie afternoon tea with my mum!!
