Oh is decorating his house thank god we don't live together as his taste is clearly vile.

We've been looking at wallpaper hes chosen what he likes then goes on to say what colour gloss for the skirting boards?

I said white which I thought was the sane and only answer to what colour a skirting board should be. Green is the answer apparently. Hmm

Is this a thing?? Have I been living under a rock and this looks nice?. I may have said how it looks tacky and he went mental. Now I feel like a bitch..

So if I have ultra matt (chalky matt) pale green walls, what colour skirting boards? Please not grey!

I looked on b&q and it was all black, white or a creamy sort of colour.

ImTakingTheEssence · 25/03/2016 22:28

Unlucky I would like him to calm it down but dated seems to be the look he's going for he doesn't want tasteful.
When I was in his bathroom the other night I just thought why paint it orange and you've gone and got red accessories to finish the job.

I've noticed in some of these interior design mags, that it's the fashion at the moment to either paint your woodwork the same colour as your walls or a darker shade of the same colour, which in your case would obviously be a darker green. Look on Pinterest for ideas I could spend flippin hours on there

ImTakingTheEssence · 25/03/2016 22:38

Alas I like that. I like white it feels clean.
I feel I have no say really as I don't live with him and if I ever did god help us.

Colour makes me nervous

All white everything would make me nervous Confused I'd have to make the kids hover over the sofa rather than sit on it, and they'd have to take their shoes off before they even came in the house. Sounds gorgeous in theory thoughGrin

tilder · 25/03/2016 22:42

Quick drying sounds good. I painted an internal door gloss white and waited two days to close it. The paint still stuck.

Can I use satinwood on external wood? I need to paint our backdoor and have been wondering how to do it if it will take days to dry.

sootica did your mum just buy tester pots?Grin

We had dark maroon/aubergine gloss skirting in our last home. Builders thought we were bonkers.

I loved them for the whole 7 years we lived there. Surprising how few people noticed! So I say, let your dp do what makes him happy Smile

Fillybuster · 25/03/2016 22:56

Although now I've read the rest of the thread, and have more of an idea of your dps 'interesting' design tastes, I may need to revise that opinion....

As you were GrinGrinGrin

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/03/2016 22:59

I've got (white) satin woodwork at the moment and I hate it - I'd rather repaint the gloss every couple of years than have drab, flat wood! We're redecorating every room (thankfully there aren't many!) and it'll be back to gloss!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/03/2016 23:01

I meant to add that I'm sure everyone else's satin looks lovely, it's just not to my taste (don't want to offend anyone Blush)

BertieBotts · 25/03/2016 23:03

It is definitely a "trend" right now. American sites are all over it. They don't use the word skirting board, though, so you need to be googling coloured baseboards or coloured kickboards and you'll see some magaziney examples.

I couldn't bear so much white, Alas! I love colour. I actually have a colour I'm not that keen on in my living room at the moment because any colour is better than white! Grin (Working on getting the puke orange integrated...)

TheHiphopopotamus · 25/03/2016 23:05

I am planning on painting my kitchen cabinets a very, very pale grey with a chalk paint

I painted my kitchen cupboards with Annie Sloan Paris Grey. If you use your kitchen for anything other than decoration, I don't recommend it. Looked beautiful when I first did it but a year down the line and it's looks horrible. I'm going to have to re-do them in proper kitchen cupboard paint Sad

I did our woodwork in white satinwood and DH started with his damning with feint praise malarky. "yes it is better... but I do prefer gloss because it's shinier and more durable" Reader I nearly divorced him.
Many decades ago I painted my skirting boards to match the carpet and accessories and it looked OK in a bedroom.
You need to be a proven design wizard to pull off anything but white woodwork in a grown up room.

White, grey, black, even muted purple at a push
Green?! Has he been smoking something? I would have done a WTF face at green Confused
In fact I just asked my dad (who is mid sixties) and he went "GREEN? Like actual green? Skirting boards are white. GREEN?" Grin

We have grey there is no white except our bathroom and kitchen. Step away from the gloss. Matte is the only way.

Colour (right shade) can look good.
