To wonder why the conservatives won't just tax people more ??

Am I missing something here ?

Clearly there is a scarcity of money - and certain areas are rightly ring fenced .

But don't tell me that most working families can't afford an average of £50 a month - this would exclude people on low income , and for some families it £10 and for some £200 -

The UK is full of families and individuals with disposable income - a minor tax increase for 40% of the working population could raise £11bn

So why won't they do it ??? Baffles me - I would personally rather pay more tax and know that the vulnerable are cared for

Bunny we are not talking about those who are unable to work or contribute please read the thread.

AnthonyBlanche · 25/03/2016 16:14

Perhaps instead of going for meals out all the people Stop sees living overly materialistic lives should be herded into soup kitchens every evening? That way the money they would otherwise have spent can be handed over to the state and wasted on overseas aid or vanity projects redistributed.

Followyourart · 25/03/2016 16:15

I think they want blood bunny I'm sorry but we live in a heartless society, as I'm sure you know.

BunnyTyler · 25/03/2016 16:15

Bunny - no need to be aggressive - I was curious what people thought about paying more tax. I work full time and work long hours so my sad excuse is I don't have time or energy to do much more . When I cut my hours or retire I would dearly like to .

First of all OP you're interpretation of 'aggressive' is vastly different to mine.
I was not aggressive.

Secondly, you 'work full time and long hours' so don't have 'time if energy to do much more'.
Please see my previous post - working 45 hours per week on shift work, with 2 children (one of those you wanted more tax from), and I still was able to do extra to benefit my local community.

When you are contributing yourself, then do feel free to harangue others to do more, but whilst you are doing the bare minimum (ie going to work) then probs best to not castigate others.

Madbengalmum · 25/03/2016 16:16

Anthony yes, good plan, maybe i could then increase my 18 hour day to a 24 hour one!

BunnyTyler · 25/03/2016 16:17

I have read the thread Madbengalmum, I just think people should sort out their own back yards before commenting on other peoples.

BunnyTyler · 25/03/2016 16:17

You actually work an 18 hr day?

Every day?

7 days a week?

Madbengalmum · 25/03/2016 16:17

Yes bunny i'll just stick a broom up my ass!

Madbengalmum · 25/03/2016 16:18

Yes, 18 hrs bunny ,and i pay alot of tax, are you happy with that!

Oh, i do get a bank holiday off, today!

Onedayinthesun · 25/03/2016 16:19

That's not what I meant - not at all. I live in a large and fairly affluent city and I see swathes of people lying fairly well heeled lives with meals out - I think they could and should be taxed more and wouldn't notice it.

Very judgemental OP.

What on earth do you know about the lives of people you walk past who are having something to eat in pubs, restaurants or similar?

Just because you think British workers Could and Should be Taxed more does not make any sense.

Anyway I'm off to Nandos with my family for tea before we fly to Spain in the morning Wink (true)

Followyourart · 25/03/2016 16:19

I think a successful economy needs everybody to be spending, not just the rich minority, which is how things have become / are fast becoming. And I don't just mean on TVs and holidays, I mean food shopping - supermarkets (apart from Lidl and Aldi) are losing profit due to people simply not being able to buy food, relying on food banks and shoplifting.

I think until you've lived in poverty you have absolutely no idea.

BillSykesDog · 25/03/2016 16:20

But, the thing is, there has to be some sort of incentive, a pay off, for people who are actually paying the tax. And often that incentive is the extra £50 or the holiday.

Because if you're in a situation where your financial situation is pretty similar whether you're working and paying tax, or not working and on benefits, huge amounts of people are going to just give up the hassle of work (I don't blame them). Why bother if you can get exactly the same lifestyle and services for free. So demand for state support goes up and people paying for it goes down.

I'm very, very much of the opinion that if you are paying tax which helps support others, then, yes, you should have £50 disposable income a month or be able to afford a holiday.

BunnyTyler · 25/03/2016 16:20

18 hrs a day, 7 days a week?

I think you're telling porkies Bengal.

What is your working day?
0600 to midnight every day, 7 days a week?
Bollocks.

Grannyspantry · 25/03/2016 16:21

What you have to understand Mad is that Bunny is just a better person than you are. She's told you so, so if you could please just have that in the back of your mind when replying to her posts - she has more compassion, more energy and more get up and go.

It's weird how you're judged for not doing more when Bunny would be the first to jump down your throat for suggesting some people get a job, but she's a better person than me too, so that's all cool.

Chalalala · 25/03/2016 16:21

I wouldn't be so sure that we're light years away from modern workhouses...

oh they'll come with another name, no doubt. But look at this thread: people are suggesting poor people get their benefits in food vouchers, people are complaining that the poor get benefits "for nothing". How far away are we from suggesting benefits are paid in the shape of food and accommodation, in exchange for work? Which is exactly what the workhouses were.

SpringHasNearlySprung · 25/03/2016 16:24

DH can work 24 hours a day. Sometimes he's 24 hours on 4 - 6 days some weeks. I often work 16 hours some days. Yet, according to the OP she wants more of our 45% tax contribution? Also, according to the OP we shouldn't have holidays, go out for meals or buy "materialistic" things. What are we to do? Hand over all of our wages to the Government? Do you want everyone existing instead of living OP?

BunnyTyler · 25/03/2016 16:26

Granny, I have no idea wtf your point is.

I don't think I'm better than anyone.
I responded to OP saying that people should pay more taxes by asking what she actually did herself to contribute more, if anything.

She said she didn't have time because she works.
I responded that I worked full time and did extra ( like many other people).

I have also pointed out that now I physically can't do anything other than just exist through each day.
I am on disability benefits because I cannot do anything let alone work.

I am seeing it from all sides so I really don't see what your point is about me.

AnthonyBlanche · 25/03/2016 16:26

And while we're at it chalala we could bring back debtor's prisons Hmm

Some posters on this thread have overactive imaginations and too much time on their hands.

Redderred · 25/03/2016 16:26

What about all the businesses that rely on people spending their spare £50 a month? Should the people that work for them just suffer and lose their jobs?

GreenishMe · 25/03/2016 16:27

I think some of us are already making a substantial contribution to paying for public services. In the past year on a salary of substantially less than £100k I have paid tax and NI of over £25k! Why should I pay more?

I'd be happy to live on the £25k per year that you pay in tax.

Madbengalmum · 25/03/2016 16:27

Bunny, you clearly know more about my business than i do. And if you would like to pay my taxes and do my knackering job i would be very grateful

Oh, and you know so much about me, you should know my hours are 04.00 to 22.00!! Doh.

SpringHasNearlySprung · 25/03/2016 16:28

You actually work an 18 hr day

Lots of people do. Why are you so surprised? DH is a Vet and often works 18 hour days. I'm an HT and often work 16 hour days in term time. Not everyone has a 9-5 job. I know doctors that work more than DH Confused

Madbengalmum · 25/03/2016 16:31

I am glad i am not the only 18hrs a day person who is clearly lying to Bunny!

I find her accusations very rude and out of touch.

BunnyTyler · 25/03/2016 16:33

Often work is different to always work though.

I didn't work 9 - 5 either btw, I had to work a variety of shift patterns and hours, but never 126 hour weeks on an extended basis with no respite.

If you actually do work 126 hour weeks, every week then of course I apologise, but I just cannot comprehend how that is possible, let alone legal.

BunnyTyler · 25/03/2016 16:34

And by work, obviously that doesn't include travel - it's actual work.
