To not want my child to go to one of those Kids' Clubs at a holiday resort?

I have a 7 year old, who is more than happy to be in the pool and do stuff with us, so was DS who is 4, but we went into the hotel entertainment and the kids' club was just finishing off. He wanted to join in and he couldn't, but it was possible me for me to book it. I'm just not sure I want him to think that's what a holiday is. I want him to know its spending time with family, etc.

But nor are those who use the Kid's club.

Your kids your choice but the flip side is the kids club are fun and he expressed an interest. Don't you want him to think that is what holidays are about? Doing things you enjoy and having your wishes listened to?

One loved it, other never asked and third was unable to use. Went with the flow. The one who loved it was very sporty and competitive and would hate the pool after 15 minutes.

They're not actually compulsory, do you realise that? How could you possibly be unreasonable? . Don't send them.

Because he wants to go, I feel like I have to send him. I just feel bad because DH and I, and DD will be doing stuff without him

Gosh how do you deal with important decisions? Either let him go or don't. You are the parent so you make the parental decision. Its no biggie - Honest!

I feel similar but many kids love them. We used to let them do a half day. It got them out of the sun, they had fun playing games and making stuff and making friends.

We then had them for the rest of the day.

If he wants to go I would let him go for just a couple of sessions.

We don't use them and Ds has never shown an interest in them but if he wanted to go as long as it wasn't in place of a family trip out then I wouldn't stop him

I remember when I was on holiday with dss he decided he wanted to go and we spent no less then an hour filling in forms and queueing in the burning hot sun and by the time we had finished he had decided he did not want to go

Oh sorry, he wanted to go. Yes, as pp. suggested just send him for one or two sessions, why not? You've still have plenty of time as a family.

We did use them when the kids were younger. The sessions were only about 2 hours long and gave them something to do especially in the middle of the day when they were supposed to be out of the sun. They don't really use them now they are older.

You could pick and choose each day whether to go so didn't have to go to every session.

Ours have a horror of them as did I at their age. Jolly enforced nursery type care on holiday when you could be reading by the pool no thanks.

The one time I went as a kid against my better judgment I played rounders and got hit very hard on the leg when some lad chucked the bat behind him without looking so accept I hold a holiday club grudge.

Mine are a bit older, 7 and 10, and they love it. They'd rather hang out with peers.

The ones in our resorts did run all day but each session was only a couple of hours long so you could choose which activities to join in with

I agree with you. As a child I went on holiday with my dad, step mum and step sister and we were put in the kids club every day. I really felt palmed off and hated it, I was used to holidays with my mum's family where we all did stuff together.
However, I have never liked enforced fun and still don't and if he wants to go why not let him for a couple of sessions? He would probably enjoy it more than I did!

Surely if he is asking to go and would clearly enjoy it - why not let him go? .

Is it because you don't like the fact that he might actually prefer to do something new/different/without you?

My DS loved those sorts of holiday clubs when he was younger, it would have been mean to not let him go because we 'wanted him to be with us'. .

Not at all he does lots without me. It's the fact that we have tons of stuff planned and don't want him to feel left out.

Is It Club Med or David Waner - or similar? I don't mind some kid club stuff but i avoided these companies when the kids were young as i felt theyvsold the holiday on giving you a break fron your kids.

Can you not just book it or a couple of hours or do you have to pay for the whole week?
If he wants to hang about with some other 4 year olds and play on his holiday then is that so awful? What if he was 10 and wanted to play mini golf with some other 10 year olds? Would he have to not do that because you 'know' that holiday is spending time with family?

It's not that, it's the fact he liked the look of the music/dancing. It's a whole day of stuff, with eating with the kids, etc.

You have to book the whole day (not whole week)

I never used them.

One of the main reasons to go on holiday for us is to spend time as a family together. We are all so busy school/working that even having a meal together at home rarely happens,
It would defeat the point of going on holiday if we used kids clubs.
