We are moving into a new house, we need tv/internet ect. He's refusing to have sky because "the dish looks awful and it looks like a council house" 😡😡😡

He won't even discus the idea, because he also thinks I won't have time to watch tv, you know being a sahm to three!

I live in a town where satellite dishes are not allowed anywhere on the property, it does look a lot better in my opinion.
Sky are a horrible company so I wouldn't want to use them even if Satellite dishes were allowed.
There are a lot of good alternatives to sky out there that offer exactly the same channels, better internet packages plus some great extras at a more competitive price. I'd really recommend shopping around a bit before tying yourself in to a contract with sky.
But your DP is a knob for the council estate comment.

We watch F1, (practice, quali and the race), the movie channels and DP watches football, I'd love not to have a dish on the side of the house and not give Murdoch a penny, but I'd end up with a criminal record and a very unhappy DP.

I think it stems from all the channel 5, Benefit Porn.... Can't put food on table but can find money for Sky (£900+), fags and booze.... Etc

DP needs to be thankful he doesn't live where we do, we need a dish just to get a decent internet connection Hmm

We're doubly common though as we've got Sky as well. Would love to ditch it but I enjoy the rugby league coverage too much!!

I'm about to get sky installed I already have virgin for everything but there is a stupidly amazing deal locally which means I'm very willing to have it installed to be used occasionally upstairs as the free view is crap..

Certainly wouldn't be paying £60+ for it though there internet is crap compared to virgins.

If you can't have sky can you have the money instead ?

I think there's still people around who think council houses are free housing, and people just get to live in them and not pay any bills.

Theoretician · 23/03/2016 19:20

Does the house have a visible TV aerial? Because the modern small black Sky dish is considerably better-looking than that.

shrunkenhead · 23/03/2016 21:40

How much is Sky per month? I think there's the assumption that most people who work don't have the time to surf through eleventy milliln channels! I know I dont but tv isn't big on our family's agenda anyway.

Report
Beahun · 25/03/2016 12:21

Griphook I meant it's not much money they get anyway, I doubt they want to spend it on sky!

He wants to get nowtv and not sky but you have a problem with that?

Tbf now tv is much cheaper than sky and you get more or less the same channels.

Stuck up bastard.
I'd LTB - not for his objections to Sky but for his snobby attitude.

I never knew that council estate tenants would have sky. Would they have the money for it?

Fucking hell. That's worse than what the OP's husband said.

kimlo as do many families living in social housing. Unfortunately, it looks like lots some people have bought into the propoganda that people who live in social housing are benefit scroungers living the life of riley.

If it helps and it bothers him that much, you can ask them to put on the back of the house. The installers hate it, because it is a two man job but they won't say no because you can threaten to cancel (if it's a new contract). You can still see it, but at least it's not on the front. We could have had ours at the front but we insisted on the back!

I live in a lovely leafy village. We have a playing green in front of our house. All the houses on my side of the street are privately owned, the houses on the other side of the street are HA. None of the HA houses have sky dishes, almost all the privately owned houses do (including ours) most of them are attached to the chimney though. We pay £22 a month for the Entertainment Package plus Sports.

OPs DH is a tosser.

Oh and we all have to have super-duper booster aerials (that are really ugly) or we have no service at all.

Really? I'm shocked
Do people seriously believe this?? ShockShockShock
Not all council house tenants are on benefits! Some of us actually work for a living and pay our own bills!

Yeah those council house scumbags! I bet they get their Sky for free, along with their free house and free flat screen telly.

Arsehole.

I spend all the money I save on my free house on betting on dog fights and Mad Dog 2020. Hardworking tax payers pay for my sky tv package Wink
