Cameron's rhetoric following IDS resignation and PIP cuts u-turn is hard to stomach

In parliament yesterday he said that he has a:

"deeply-held conviction that everyone in Britain should have the chance to make the most of their lives"

and

"Securing our economy, extending opportunity: we will continue with this approach, in full, because we are a modern, compassionate one-nation Conservative government,"

Does he actually believe his own self-congratulatory rhetoric? Does he think that anyone listening will just take his words as gospel? Or that the more often he says it the more real it will become?

Am truly sick of our kind of confrontational politics which IMO leads to ridiculous statements like the above.

It's actually quite baffling.

I totally understand that people have differences of political opinion, but how Cameron is still taken seriously by anyone, on either side of the political spectrum, is completely beyond me. Teflon doesn't even start to describe it.

I don't like Osborne either, but at least he appears to have the courage of his convictions.

In a general election tomorrow, he's (or they) still far and away the person I'd want leading our country.

I wish they'd stop using words with 'passion' in them. Yesterday one of them seriously came on the radio and described himself as 'passionate about compassionate conservatism'. Not just any drivel but stomach turning drivel.

I think if I hear DC say 'Let me absolutely clear...' one more time I will throw something at the TV. Because he is usually something a lot less than transparent in what he says and then following it through with what he does.

I for one am grateful that people are starting to see through the Tories spin and lies. They are fed up to the back teeth of it.

The Media as per usual are a little behind but it can't be long till they also start to put the boot in surely.

I never thought I could hate anyone more than Thatcher et al but I was wrong.
Social mobility is going down, not up. I remember when I was applying to secondary schools, lots of people saying to me 'Oh DS1 is bright, he'll do well wherever he goes'. Sadly, I've come to the conclusion that that simply isn't true and that being born into poverty/wealth massively influences your life chances more than ever.
I would dearly love to dump the whole Cabinet in the worst sink estate possible and make them live on benefits for a year.

Isn't most of the media owned by them anyway?

He's not exactly going to come out with the truth and say, "We're going to fuck over our state owned organisations and assets in favour of our chums in private business, and fuck over the poor because, unlike us, they didn't have the good fortune to be born into wealthy families with all of the opportunities that entails. Oh, and just because I'm a millionaire who married a multi-millionaire yet still claimed DLA doesn't mean the less well off should be able to. Pip pip!"

Far better to lie through your teeth and claim that the cuts are for the masses' own good, rather than for the elite minority.

Wren I think that is the problem.

I was listening to talk back radio yesterday and the presenter was obviously Tory [I think he even admitted it at one point but said he was remaining impartial for the purpose of the debate] and he kept going on and on about how Jeremy Corbyn wasn't fit for purpose as he didn't make the most of the opportunity to annihilate DC at PMQs about the IDS resignation debacle.

Person after person called in to say that actually they felt JC had done fine and they had more respect for him not doing the whole catcalling, hooting shtick more commonly seen in the HOP. That his calm, measured response appealed to them and seemed more genuine and adult. That they liked how he didn't attempt to score points off this recent event... and really he doesn't have to, I think the general public can work it out for themselves.

The presenter kept saying how bemused he was by this and how he would have to agree to disagree and I was thinking, well yes, the media really doesn't get that the general public, Joe Bloggs in the street, is tired of the way parliament is run and presented. It doesn't speak to them, it alienates and frustrates them.
Not everyone obviously, but a lot of people, find that JC's approach resonates with them and they appreciate the difference in style.

Regarding cuts to the disabled, unfortunately I feel too much damage has already been done. The social care cuts and local authority cuts to vulnerable people's services has already been happening at a devastating level and the people who use and require these services are not in any position to just get a job or work harder.

I'm sick of bloody u-turns, most of which are clearly orchestrated to become opportunities for the government to prove they listen. If they want to do something, no amount of petitions, bad press or resignations are going to change their minds.

I don't appreciate a government so comfortable with playing silly little games and I'm surprised Tory voters aren't more annoyed tbh. I've never voted Tory but among those I know they're generally no nonsense, pragmatic types, surely these pathetic tactics are pissing them off?

Wren - I agree that it's all terribly incestuous, but no member of the Cabinet - to my knowledge - owns any media outlets.

I know they're friends of the Murdochs - although perhaps not as friendly as the Blairs were!!
