AIBU to think that Jonathan Pine will blow it in Cairo? (The Night Manager)

It's about the BBC drama The Night Manager. I am feeling anxious about the life of Jed based on Jonathan Pine's previous record of messing around women of powerful and dangerous men.
And now they're all back in the same hotel when everything started. Situation is somewhat the same. Like last time information leaked and the vilain suspected his mistress. And the responsible for the leak was J.Pine. Why did he leak the information in the first place when Sophie asked him to leak it only if something happens to her?
Now he in some surreal way has Jed on his side without offering her anything in return but a vague promise to get her out of Roper's world. Why she believes it is beyond me. She seemed OK with Roper and is probably not driven only by remorse over her secret "affair" with Pine? Also based on his previous experience with saving vulnerable women, I doubt he can do it very seriously.
I don't have a good feeling about the finale.

Mmmm, good point about it going round in a circle. Its the finale next week, but I really don't know how it will end.

I'm sure he will end up with Jed (strange name), not sure of Roper's future (or House as DD calls him. At least Corky has gone.

Unlikely that ending up where you started will have the same result - more likely a question of recreate parallel situation, outcome different. My money's on Roper gets away, Olivia Coleman ends up on the hook for the corruption of other intelligence officials. Don't know what'll happen to Jonathan and Jed.

Will Jonathan end up taking over Roper's business (and girlfriend)? He does seem quite good at this whole arms dealing thing, after all...

It is so implausible. Thoroughly enjoyable, but Pine just isn't steely enough and no way would Roper let him in like that.

I would speculate that Angela Burr won't get the funds she needs and is forced to abandon the operation, which will leave Jonathan to fight Roper and Hamid completely alone. He might finish them but I don't see him getting out if this alive.

Hope to be proven wrong.
I think at the moment Jed is liability - she's not emotionally stable and the game he plays is way too risky.

Well it's based on a book isn't it?
So we could just read it and find out?

Also...there's a second series been commissioned (not sure how that works with the book though)

Hence the reason I don't think Hiddleston would be a good Bond, even though I think he's a very watchable actor (like I'm any expert, but YKWIM)

Desperately sitting on my hands not to look up the le Carre plot on Google, as it would surely be there. Though if they're commissioning a second series, I suppose we can't rely on them sticking to the story anyway.

Hugh Laurie has been the best thing in it by a country mile. And I don't watch House, and I can't stand his rich man playing the Blues thing (though I accept IAB wholly U on that one)

CuttedUpPear I know it's based on a book but it's much more fun to speculate.

not sure I like the women being labled simply as the property of rich men - the first woman was trying to bring him down and escape so hardly passive and Jed is helping him uncover the truth.

I don't think he'll blow it - he wants revenge too much but it is getting scary - can't wait for the next episode

Have read the book but won't give anything away other than to say if they end it in the same way a second season is very possible.

I shall be lost without 'Shirtless Hiddleston Sundays' Will have to go and watch High Rise and get my fix that way.

MrsSteptoe I undertand what you mean about Laurie being the best part somfar - I have watched hims in other movies but he is so good and in character here that I don't think of any of his other roles when I watch him.
Actually the whole,cast is very good in my opinion and very convincing.

Not sure about Hiddleston playing Bond, he is certainly different than the traditional Bond look but I am sure he can paint a different Bond which could be good actually.
On the other hand if playing Bond bans hims from appearing in other movies, then I'd rather he doesn't.

Incidentally, it differs a fair bit from the book, Burr being very much male and (unsurprisingly) not pregnant for one, so they could change things around a bit I guess. I know John Le Carre resisted screen adaptations for many years but was happy with this one, including it's changes so I guess not a stretch to think it might all end differently.

SistersOfPercy Yes, the High-Rise. I'm gonna watch ot this week to distract myself till Sunday.
I liked Hiddlestone when he played Loki - he made so much more out of that character. He's a fine actor and a charismatic person. And apparently fluent in Ancient Greek

I suspect the finale will include a lot of pressure from MI6. They will have found out that Burr has an agent inside. I really look forward to a second season!

High Rise is another excellent book so I'm looking forward to that too not in the least the naked scene

I believe he speaks about 5 languages including Latin Icing. Have you seen Crimson Peak? I rather love him in that, though my favourite TH movie is 'Only Lovers Left Alive'.

I started reading High-Rise Sisters and very looking forward to see how they filmed it.
Haven't watched Crimson Peak yet but it's on my list. I only hope it's not too horror-y.

It's not too horror-y no, more a ghost story. I really enjoyed it.

2OffWhiteCurtains I thought because Burr was told that the U.S. Government needs Roper, he has their shading most of the time so even if the scandal comes out it would either be late for MI6 to intervene or won't make a difference.
I wonder what Burr could do now as she let down her biggest ally with the frontier and her othenrfriend was reassigned somewhere else.

On that I think Pine really didn't think well. Of course if Roper knows that the intelligence is after them and he doesn't know who the mole is, he could have assumed that if the whole deal goes as planned he would be compromised. So he did change the delivery.
And Pine's move was very risky - he could have been seen at any stage and he got caught by Corky - but he clearly didn't think he was wrong about the delivery.
I wonder what his plan was if the plen succeeded and the the delivery was intercepted.

His plan was to blame Corky.

I didn't like the fact that Corky managed to be one step ahead of him and almost pummel him to death. It leaves him looking very weak and not so intelligent!

Purplepicnic well, maybe not very useful in today's world but adds a certain charm.

Also, Jed was good friends with Corky so will not be pleased if she finds out what happened.

Inthough he was lucky how the things with Corky turned out as I am not sure how Roper would believe that Corky was to blame if he was there to defend himself.
Unless Pine used manipulative tactics and introduce discord.
But still it would be risky as Roper had so much history with Corky why would he believe a newcomer who he doesn't really know over a trusted be it mildly irritable confidante?

Agree. Jed will be in for a big shock.
