To think Emeli Sande' is underrated?

Just that really. I have been listening to music this morning and have enjoyed Emeli Sande' s 'Clown' song. Artists like her are underrated, no?

Jesus Christ NO!!! She is overrated if anything. There was a time not so long ago, that you couldn't bloody escape her music.

I can't bear her music so YABU!

I also think an artist has to have the X factor (and I don't mean the TV show!) and she doesn't have it. And be aspirational and thrilling. She is neither.

She was everywhere the other year think adele was pregnant I was sick of the sight of her tbh her music is ok but imo she is a bit dull

It's supply and demand OP. 'Underrated' is a bit of a red herring. People ain't demanding her.

She was ridiculously overexposed about four years ago (it seemed like she was in absolutely everything related to the Olympics). I think we're just currently in a natural correction against the hype.

Underrated in what respect? She's had number one albums and you couldn't switch on the radio in 2012 without one of her songs being on.

Yes she can sing, but her songs are bland, forgettable and formulaic.

Was she the one who sang 'Abide With Me' at the olympics opening ceremony? I was astonished by her talent and poise. Made me shiver, it did.

I'm not familiar with her records, though.

Don't know about the Olympics.

Well, I think she is really talented, beautiful voice. Could be a good role model for youngsters who want to follow that career (as opposed to looking up to Beyoncé, Rihanna etc). Nothing wrong with Beyoncé, Rihanna etc. ofcourse, just wish they were not wearing next to nothing all the time.

I think Emeli Sande' writes all her own songs too. Could be wrong.

She's never really recovered from the over exposure she had over the olympics. For a while it felt like you she'd turn up at anything and be singing at you. Very short sighted by her managers I suspect it's put many people including myself off of her which is a shame because she does have talent.

A couple of years ago she received an honorary doctorate from one of my Alma Maters - the University of Glasgow - for "her contribution to music". This was after one album. As I knew the principal - we were doctoral students at the same time - I wrote to complain that doctorate seem to be given away willie nilly these days and how could this be justified after a very short career. I think she is talented but at the moment when the history of popular music is written she will appear as a footnote. Her performance of Abide with Me at the Olympics was dreadful

Every so often there's a female artist eg. Katie Melua, Kate Nash, KT Tunstall (although the bloody Katies it seems!) who gets played non bloody stop for approx 18 months and then they thankfully disappear.

Hopefully Emeli will follow this pattern.

Doesn't make her music any cop though. Billie Holiday spent a vast portion of her life hooked on alcohol and drugs and you wouldn't wish what she went through in her early life on your worst enemy. But she had talent and originality in bucketloads.

But I know whose music I'd rather listen to and whose music will be remembered in 50 years time.

the city I hate the idea of honorary doctorates full stop. I get more annoyed with people who have an actual PhD agreeing to them. They know the work involved to get one and shouldn't be accepting pretend ones like they were sweets.

thecity I think she studied at glasgow too. Honorary degrees are generally a bit of a joke though.

Y y re olympics she sang about four frigging times! she must know Danny Boyle personally
But I do love clown op and her duet with James Arthur . But totes got sick of her .

Must be something wrong with my hearing OP. I can only hear a screeching shouting couldn't hold a tune in a bucket noise but you hear angels Grin
