To ask what sort of jobs can be done from home?

Often see posters mention that they run a business from home and I am very curious as to what they can be. Are they all professions which you can do from your home office (journalist/writer, accountant etc)? Or are they businesses that anyone talented enough can do?

DS and DD-i-L could do with more income as they are struggling, but for various reasons (inc young baby) it is difficult for her to find work. Working from home would definitely be the answer but various ideas so far haven't worked out/aren't actually practical.

I have a friend who does proof reading. She has a full time job, but does this a few evenings a week. You do need to be able to concentrate though, so not sure how suitable it would be.

I own my own food company making food for the fitness industry.

But I have a spare downstairs room that has been converted into a working kitchen.

To set puts up with needed both me and dh. I worked in the fitness industry and have done accounts before. I run it all apart from the making of the food but do package it. Dh worked in the food industry his whole life and does all the food side.

It was finding a business that we both had the right skills for business.

But it was very difficult to do the hours that we needed until ds went to full time school. He has been there since September so both of us work school ours and one of us work in the evening while the other is putting him to bed.

We started it to supplement our income but it took off, so we closed another business to do this full time.

I work from home.

My job is a bit specialised so it was converted massive drop in pay for me to do from home rather than replace me when I wanted to leave.

Ideas for DS family would be online bingo host (the chat monitor) or customer service assessors (who listen to recordings of calls made to customer service and mark the rep)

Private tuition. If you've got a degree in something relevant it's a lovely job.

I work for a law firm in the City and we have a bank of off site typists who type up the letters and documents we dictate. they are mostly mums with young children who don't want the hassle and expense of a commute. All you need is a computer with access to the Internet to get onto a server remotely (and be a reasonably decent typist). This sort of role is really common now as offices get smaller/more modern and the hotdesking/remote working culture grows.

What are their skills or qualifications?

I work from home full time but took me a degree and 2 masters to be able to do it.

There's no such thing as a quick buck.

But don't forget even if you run a VERY SUCCESSFUL events company you can still have six other jobs...

Childminding. I have a few kids and did it to fit around my own childrens. There's a lot of paperwork though.

Food for thought

The buck doesn't have to be quick though. Just practical and doable.

Copywriting can be a great earner if you enjoy writing. I earn between £2-300 per month writing for Copify and Textbroker. It's quick and easy to apply on their websites and I love it :-)

I work in telesales and only go into the office one day each week. All other hours are done from home.
