Is it just me or she looks amazing? She seems to a victim of fit shaming

OP posts:
PennyHasNoSurname · 21/03/2016 07:46

Surely anyone who gets annoyed by her Instagram use can just not follow her?

Tbh I do a bit of a WTF face whenever I see a seleb in barely anything (male or female) posting pics of themselves online which ineventably end up getting a news peice written on them.

I suppose the plus with CM is that she is advertising her business at least. "This is what I can do for you", rather than just "this is what my body is like".

MajesticSeaFlapFlap · 21/03/2016 07:48

I think it's awful to comment on anyone's body, regardless of the reason why.

She invites comments. She gets paid to post the pics and get maximum views and comments - good or bad she needs those comments. Her clothes, poses everything is designed to get maximum posts

She not A victim it's her choice. No-ones holding a gun to her head and forcing her to get into a bra and pants and post every day.

Katenka · 21/03/2016 07:53

Let her get on with it.

I find it odd. Can't see how it's shameful or where the comparison to cancer researchers come in. Most people don't have jobs that save someone's life.

I don't think the fact that she puts stuff on social media invites negativity. There is outrage when people shame plus size models. They are putting their bodies out there to make money too.

She is an adult let her get on with it.

If you don't like it. She is easy to avoid. Don't go on the DM website (or if your don't click a link to a story about her) and don't follow her on social media.

Katenka · 21/03/2016 07:54

Although I can't see her actually being that bothered by the negative comments either.

It's all publicity

ilovesooty · 21/03/2016 07:57

I quite liked her in Dancing on Ice but what is your AIBU?

StrawberrytallCake · 21/03/2016 07:57

She looks amazing, I have started training in the last year to get fit and she must work ridiculously hard to get that body so I have a lot of respect for that.

It is all publicity for her business, if it's there and it's free then why wouldn't you???

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 21/03/2016 08:01

I suppose the plus with CM is that she is advertising her business at least. "This is what I can do for you", rather than just "this is what my body is like*

That is exactly it, as Pps have said her body and her clients bodies are her product.

I get the whole not getting selfies thing I don't either but it's just not for me. And yes people that don't like her Instagram could just unfollow her, the problem is they don't. They make absolutely vile comments about her size and shape how she's too masculine, to skinny, to curvy, will never have kids. It puzzles me why people follow people they just want to abuse. I had it this weekend with another celeb posting a picture of his wife, now his wife is very thin, naturally so, she's spoken openly about being bullied at school because of it. And people were commenting that she shouldn't look like that and following their comments with😱 (Horrified faces for those that can't see emojis) and when I said stop body shaming they came up with my opinion ain't it, and called me a keyboard warrior. I think it's absolutely wrong to comment on other peoples weight shape and size. Even if you think ohh you look thin is a compliment it might not be too the person your saying it too. Even more from behind a phone or keyboard.

For example a friend of mine was very ill for three months her doctor refused to diagnose crones, so three months of literally not being able to keep anything down she lost three stone, we met up with another friend who unwittingly went ohh have you lost weight thinking it was a good thing to notice to which my friend had to go yes, but I've been ill and I'd rather not talk about it!

I know this is slightly different to CM but people thing they have a right to judge!

JasperDamerel · 21/03/2016 08:04

"Fit shaming"? Is that a new thing? Because I can't say I've ever encountered it. I haven't heard anyone complaining about Eddie Izzard's marathons or saying what terrible role models Jessica Ennis-Hill or Ellie Simmonds are for girls.

Maybe her critics are objecting to something other than her level of fitness.

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2016 08:05

If you post lots of half naked selfies on social media you may just (shock, horror) get some comments. She knows exactly what she's doing.

Katenka · 21/03/2016 08:09

I haven't heard anyone complaining about Eddie Izzard's marathons or saying what terrible role models Jessica Ennis-Hill or Ellie Simmonds are for girls.

Actually Jennifer Ennis-Hill has had derogatory comments about her body before. Along the lines of 'yuk she looks like a man'.

Not idea who Ellie Simmons is.

Eddie izzard probably hasn't. But body shaming isn't something that happens to men that often.

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2016 08:11

I imagine all this stuff is connected somehow to Daily Mail online comments?

expatinscotland · 21/03/2016 08:12

I think she looks amazing. I'm interested in her fitness app.

Vixxfacee · 21/03/2016 08:13

I don't like her body and who goes to the gym in a bikini?

Sallystyle · 21/03/2016 08:15

She looks great.

But why does she pull her bikini bottoms down so much. We don't need to see that much of your lower half to know you look amazing.

bakeoffcake · 21/03/2016 08:15

"As bright as a button"

Really?? She comes across as the exact opposite when I've heard her speak.

Runningupthathill82 · 21/03/2016 08:16

Just taken a look at her instagram feed to see what the fuss is about. Hadn't seen any pics of her previously - presumably the Daily Mail runs them?!

Anyway, she looks incredible. She must work really fucking hard to get that body and yes, it's inspirational. She's a previously quite ordinary-looking woman who has spent a lot of time and effort to get an incredibly fit and healthy body. I would love my gym work to reap those results but alas, I lack the time and motivation.

Also, the personal trainers in my gym don't look anything near that good - so if CM's instagram photos are intended as marketing for her business, I can see how they would work.

Those who are annoyed by her could perhaps stop going on the Daily Mail website or similar. I hadn't seen a pic of her in years, so she must be quite easily avoided.

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2016 08:18

she must be quite easily avoided

Yes, exactly.

wasonthelist · 21/03/2016 08:36

What is the aibu here?

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2016 08:36

Not entirely sure was.

Thefitfatty · 21/03/2016 08:39

Totally off the topic now and may be being totally unreasonable, but:

She must work really fucking hard to get that body and yes, it's inspirational.

Is it inspirational though? Personally, as someone who enjoys fitness and healthy eating, I find it a bit disingenuous and irritating. She works INCREDIBLY hard to look like that, and she gives up A LOT, but she doesn't talk about how hard and not really maintainable in the long run that is (which obviously isn't something she would want to do because she would lose clients and money).

That's probably were a fair bit of the "fit shaming" comes in.

Aeroflotgirl · 21/03/2016 08:43

she is quite shallow and superficial, if that's all she is known for. Keep it to yourself!

Only1scoop · 21/03/2016 08:45

Oh how I yearn to be fit shamed....

MorrisZapp · 21/03/2016 08:45

I'm not on instagram nor am I familiar with Ms Madeley, but I do get v confused on pinterest.

They seem to want me to be tight, toned and mainly doing squats all day while simultaneously enjoying a diet based upon deep fried sugar.

Inspirational 'fitspo' alongside 'the ten best doughnut shops in Texas' etc.

Most disconcerting. Maybe the squats and the doughnuts cancel each other out, who knows?

Aeroflotgirl · 21/03/2016 08:53

She obviously has lots of time on her hands to go to the gym and dedicate to getting her body looking like that. I have two kids, and can just about get 45 mins a day in work out.

Runningupthathill82 · 21/03/2016 08:58

Thefitfatty - I have no idea what she talks about and if she does admit how tough it is to look that good. I only came across her fitness pics an hour ago!

No doubt I might find her more irritating if I spent more time reading about her, but I'm not going to do that.

On face value she has a fit body which she's worked hard for. And it's inspirational to me, as someone who spends a lot if time in the gym, as the photos demonstrate what I could achieve if I had more time, motivation and money! Oh, and if I didn't have two children, stretched skin and the rest of it.
