Was seduced by aesthetic. So very very very stupid. Now I can't turn on the light above hob lest it highlight all the muck which could be as innocent as a little pffftttt from a pan of boiling pasta.

I am not someone who derives enjoyment from massaging stains off the fucking cooker. It's a fucking working appliance for fucks sake.

I have a poncey (not even that nice) black hob above electric rings. It's the same shit. A tiny bit of boiling water burns and smells horrendous, never cleans properly. The old gas burners on top of a grid were much much better. I hate my hob!

I used to be loyal to gas but I've now switched my affections to induction hobs instead. Sorry gas.

We had our kitchen done last year, the chap doing it was all "oh yes, this is the absolute dogs bollocks of poncey hobs". Fucker didn't mention it would forever show up all the fingerprints/mange/filth.

Have you found hob-brite? It helps.

I found the downside of poncey Islands last night. Boiled the pasta over. Water runs off hob (on the bloody island) all over the other stuff (my post) that was on the island and off the back edge all over the dining room floor.

Try having a black induction hob. It's pretty much just a sheet of black glass! Everything shows up, no matter how much you clean it!

Yep, ive a poncy black glass induction hob. It shows up everything, especially cat paw prints. On the plus side there's no knobs for harbouring gunge, which is the only main reason I bought it

Yes, yes, the paw prints. I've taken to not illuminating it with overhead light and just cleaning it when the fancy takes me.

Seriously considering replacing it with brushed steel or whatever .

Seriously? Get some W5 degreaser in Lidl and a glass cleaning cloth. I have mine six years (family of 6) and it just needs a quick spray and wipe over.

I was eying up induction hobs last weekend.

We need to replace our knackered old 25 year-old gas hob and I was thinking that an induction hob (basically a slab of black glass) would be fabulously easy to clean, compared with all the faffing about with cleaning the gas burners and pot stands as well as the hob surface!

Am I wrong? Are induction hobs a bugger to clean then?

I used to have one.... And it exploded!! One of the burner parts went, and I gaily continued using it. Apparently I shouldn't have done so.
One evening there was a sudden crack then bang, and a hole blew out in the glass, with bits flying everywhere! Very glad to be at the other side of the kitchen at the time. DD was just weeks old - thankfully she was in the other room with DP. Never again. Back to a plain, old fashioned burner stove with brushed steel and cast iron. :)

I have had ceramic (glass) hobs for the last 30 years. Absolute doddle to clean and keep looking nice. You need a scraper for dried/burnt on bits and one of those green nylon scourers with a bit of washing up liquid. Then just wipe with a tea towel. No taking all the bits apart like on a gas hob.

We have a gas on glass hob and I don't find it an issue to keep clean at all.

And actually on the paw prints I'm not sure that not seeing them is the better option, though I suppose they say ignorance is bliss!

It's fucking awful. Spits spots paws ...and impossible to clean.

Black glass induction hob is dead easy to clean.

Only downsides are -
you need stainless steel or cast iron pans
if you are stir frying, the wok doesn't get as hot as a gas flame

And if we're talking about ovens, pyrolitic cleaning is the way to go. Everything heats up to 500 degrees and burns off, then you just wipe when it's cooled down

I don't find my induction hob a pain to clean at all.

I put all the grills, nobs & bits in the dishwasher & give the top a quick wipe.

No it's not an induction hob. Those are easy. It's gas on a black glass background. It shows every tiny mark.

Ahhhhh, I had one of these in my previous house when we did the kitchen. Sorry OP but I loved it, was a thing of beauty.
