Pita dog will not toilet in our garden, or on concrete (although I'd rather she didn't crap on the pavement anyway). This means I have to take her out several times a day.

There is a small fenced 'park' type thing a few minutes walk away. There is a block of flats one side of it, a row of houses the other. Today while walking my dog (on the lead) a woman called from her ground floor flat to ask where I lived, when I said round the corner she asked if I could leave and muttered something about the council.

It is owned by the council, there is no sign saying dogs aren't allowed, or even that they should be kept on leads. It isn't the block of flats 'communal garden', they have one round the other side, and the ground floor ones have their own garden.

So, aibu to consider sneaking my dog round there for a late night wee? The other nearest grass area is a 15-20 minutes away. Am I doomed to have to do this 3 times a day with a toddler?! And before anyone asks, yes I always pick up poo so it's not that.

YABU for using "toilet" as a verb meaning to pee and poo. No need to go further than that!

Dunkling · 17/03/2016 16:40

My dog is trained to use a toilet area at home, but walking also seems to stimulate her and she always poos and has a wee on her walk. If we are not out in the fields and instead do a village walk I always make sure she goes either in the bushes at the side of the rec (still picked up!) or on a patch of bark on our regular route so I can grab the entire lot, under bark and all. From that picture, that is somewhere I would definitely drag her away from if she started to squat!! Public land to be enjoyed by anybody is not a dog toilet imo.

Legotits you just made me lol as my retriever did the exact same thing BUT IN THE HOUSE!! Farted and out it popped..... the look of surprise... and then shame!

I used to feel ever so proud of my lovely dog who died last year. If he wasn't in our own garden, he would wait until he saw a grate in the road and stretch out and pee over that!

We used to get comments all the time about him being trained to do it, it was nothing to do with us! Grin

Lots of dog owners are incredibly selfish and entitled. Human beings trump dogs any time of the day and night. Fucking dogs.

GeorgeTheThird · 17/03/2016 20:23

Aw dunkling, your poor dog looks so sad!!

Fixed that.

Peaceandloveeveryone · 17/03/2016 21:52

Indeed Poverty that's what I think and is in fact correct.

Yeah, if you are anti-social, ok Wink.

Dunkling you can see he didn't mean it, look at his choochy face [dog love emoticon]

MTPurse · 18/03/2016 07:50

That pic certainly doesn't look like somewhere to take your dog to use the toilet. It looks like communal grass where kids would play. Nice cropping of the pic though!

WeAllHaveWings · 18/03/2016 09:03

I wouldn't let my dog toilet in an area similar to your photo, its next to flats with fencing to prevent kids running out onto the road so it looks like a children's play area rather than a dog toilet.

I also wouldn't let my dog piss on anyone else property (fences/gates/front garden plants or grass). If he lifts his leg he is told no until we reach an appropriate place.

YABU. Its not hard to train a dog to pee/poo in garden. I was surprise at how quickly my rescue learnt.
You could start by having a day without any walks at all. She's bound to go at some point and its important that you're there when she does so you can reward with toy, play, treats.
Some dogs need a bit of activity, 10 mins or so, before pooing, so play with a ball or tuggie to get her moving.
