Pita dog will not toilet in our garden, or on concrete (although I'd rather she didn't crap on the pavement anyway). This means I have to take her out several times a day.

There is a small fenced 'park' type thing a few minutes walk away. There is a block of flats one side of it, a row of houses the other. Today while walking my dog (on the lead) a woman called from her ground floor flat to ask where I lived, when I said round the corner she asked if I could leave and muttered something about the council.

It is owned by the council, there is no sign saying dogs aren't allowed, or even that they should be kept on leads. It isn't the block of flats 'communal garden', they have one round the other side, and the ground floor ones have their own garden.

So, aibu to consider sneaking my dog round there for a late night wee? The other nearest grass area is a 15-20 minutes away. Am I doomed to have to do this 3 times a day with a toddler?! And before anyone asks, yes I always pick up poo so it's not that.

OP...YANBU. How could it be unreasonable to walk your dog on a bit of grass!? There's a similar bit of grass near me and lots of people walk their dogs there. If you weren't picking up your dogs mess then yes, fair enough that would be unreasonable but what you're doing sounds fine.

Squiff85 · 17/03/2016 07:54

I think YANBU

GeorgeTheThird · 17/03/2016 07:57

I think a call to the council or housing office could resolve this for you.

TooOldForGlitter · 17/03/2016 08:03

If it doesn't say no dogs then YANBU.

Sunshineboo · 17/03/2016 08:09

If it doesn't say no dogs, or no trespassing, or defiantly is not considered part of someone's flat, then I think YANBU.

People can get very territorial about things near their homes - a person from our next street reported dh to the council for using the grit bin on their street. They did it on loudspeaker so he could hear - the council told her that he was perfectly entitled to as the bin covered 3 streets. When she put the phone down she still shouted at dh as she said she did not agree with what they said!

legotits · 17/03/2016 08:09

I have the opposite.

Legopoodle has never, in 15 years, even weed outside our garden.

Don't worry though.
My smugness was shattered when she did her first ever social poo.....
After 15 years I've stopped carrying poo bags so when she fired out four nuggets like torpedoes as we passed a bus queue I had to fish for used tissues in my pockets and carry the offending nuggs for ages.

Seeyounearertime · 17/03/2016 08:11

Id carry on until you're told by someone official.
some random shouting from a window doesn't really count.

PovertyPain · 17/03/2016 08:25

Lmao. Grin Thank your lucky stars it was only bullets. Some of the stuff I've seen dogs pass...blurgh Envy

legotits · 17/03/2016 08:31

Didn't even squat Poverty hardly broke her stride.

Made a right show of me Angry

CrownofStars · 17/03/2016 08:42

I don't think you are being unreasonable at all. It's that typical Mumsnet over-reaction to anything involving dogs. The woman was bonkers and if she had been complaining about you parking on the road in front of her house everyone would have supported you.

We've got a bit of grass like that opposite flats behind our house. It's purely landscaping and has no actual use. It's not used by children playing because they have a lovely, fenced-in play area at the end of the street.

I'm pretty sure every dog in the area wees or poos on it as they go past. As do cats, birds, hedgehogs and foxes.

SnobblyBobbly · 17/03/2016 08:45

Legotits that paragraph just made me cry with laughter!

Janeymoo50 · 17/03/2016 08:53

I think I'd be peeved if dog walkers used an area outside my window (or therabouts) as the toilet spot for their dog regularly. I have no doubt you clear up, but the likelihood could be that others use the same spot and don't clear up and perhaps she's fed up of a stream of dog walkers hence why she responded in the way she did (you could have been the last straw unfortunately). So, she isn't wrong but yanbu either.

Collaborate · 17/03/2016 08:57

OP - YANBU to walk your dog anywhere public you wish. It is a public green space. This that live closest to it cannot dictate how others use it.

OrraBoralis · 17/03/2016 09:16

Train your dog to shit in your own garden. Whether or not you see kids playing on that bit of grass is neither here not there. Dog poop still stays on grass.
YABVU to let your dog shit on any grass near a house.

You are the person who my FiL has had trouble with for years. There is a bit of grass outside his house and dogs shit and piss on it. Many owners think it's ok but it is fucking rank. Whether it is lifted or not the smell lingers and it comes into his house.

You are using a tiny green space as a toilet for your dog because you are too lazy to train him to go in your garden, I fucking hate dog owners like you.

I love dogs and have one but no way would he be shitting on communal grass. Fucking disgusting!

Collaborate · 17/03/2016 09:41

I think OrraBoralis has anger ishoos that need working on.

legotits · 17/03/2016 09:46

Here Orra gratuitous pic of Legopoodle to cheer you up.

She's helping make the bed.

This small, greying, pooch is your kind of dog!

I agree with the poster who is saying that if this 'green' area is in the middle of properties - so in front of houses on one side, flats on the other etc. etc., then it is primarily for the use of Residents.

They will see it as their green. I'm sure the local children will play there - even if they have their own gardens, children do like to play outside all together sometimes too. I have lived somewhere with a similar arrangement, and I probably wouldn't have welcomed dogs being walked there specifically to toilet.

Also, even though the grounds were Council owned, all Residents paid a weekly service charge to cover the upkeep of communal grass. This was paid by EVERY resident in the road to cover the grass at the front of the houses that belonged to nobody bar the Council. We all had our private gardens at the back too. If somebody is paying towards the upkeep of something, they are quite entitled to not want all and sundry using it.

SnuffleGruntSnorter · 17/03/2016 10:28

YANBU, it's an urban green area, as long as it doesn't say 'no dogs' or 'private' etc then dogs on leads are perfectly acceptable as long as you clear up any mess. Sone people just don't understand that they don't own the council property directly outside their house (parking spaces on public roads, green bits etc). Ignore and carry on. Let her call the council if she wants to.

And mumsnet has a funny thing with dogs, you get lots of shrieking ridiculous things like training dogs not to pee on lampposts Grin

SaggingTits · 17/03/2016 10:55

Legotits that is hilarious. I once lost my bags and had to use a toddler size sock to pick a poo up Blush. My ds then repeatedly shouted "err, poo in a sock' for 5 minutes until we found a bin.

Orra, wow. Your reply was totally OTT. I'm sure you don't speak to people like that in RL.

Snuffle, yea, training dogs not to wee up lamppost Grin ridiculous. As someone upthread said, plenty of wild animals that toilet everywhere and nobody freaks out about possible shit smears. Ah well.

OP posts:
honkinghaddock · 17/03/2016 12:15

I'd rather a dog pooed on the pavement (and the owner cleaned it up) than the dog was allowed to poo on green areas. Ds plays on the green area near my house instead of the kids play area (too busy for him) and I hate it when dogs are allowed to poo on there and often it isn't cleaned up properly.

WishToBeWell · 17/03/2016 16:00

I don't think it's fair to read Orra's post and then dismiss it with a PA 'I think Orra has anger ishoos' - I know loads of people who could have written her post; most people DO dislike dog shit remenants (that's presuming the bulk of it has been picked up in the first place and OP not everyone does as you do vis that is the sad truth)

Anyway, you can relax now as all is sorted Wink

HTH Grin

MinniedeMinx · 17/03/2016 16:05

You could make a grass box for her in the yard.

legotits · 17/03/2016 16:07

Personally I think the

Was the unfair bit of Orra's post.

A bit extreme really.
