to buy myself my own Lego?

May sound a bit silly, but would it be unreasonable to buy myself a really complicated Lego to do? And nope, my kids can't use it!

DH is after the camper van. One day he will cave in and buy it for himself.

He bought himself the Harley Quinn and Joker Lego Dimensions set. He has an unnatural fascination with Harley Quinn - even in Lego form.

Every birthday and Christmas DS would let me know which Lego GSs would love for gifts from me. He got sprung when eldest GS told me he didnt really like Lego that much and it was his dad who wanted it. I should have realised. Whenever I stayed the night DS would often be found in the morning sitting on a little chair at the children's Lego desk, busy building something with their Lego.

You can imagine DS's excitement when my DM found some unopened Lego that she had bought for him when he was a child. DS called it vintage and told his friends who are huge Lego fans too. The vintage Lego is still in the boxes sitting on a shelf displayed with his Lego builds. DS still has his old Lego which he has kept seperate from his DS's and his Lego.

I ask for LEGO for my birthday every year and I never get it; I don't think anyone believes me!
And I like playmobil

ijustwannadance · 13/03/2016 21:09

Tamesa buy it for yourself thenGrin

I have started collecting both Playmobil and Lego at the age of 46 and my 3 children are so not allowed to touch it. I play alone. 😁 I even got a Lego storage head for Christmas. 😃

trujay a friend's boyfriend made it for me to measure but yes he glued the bricks on although the backing is very sturdy.

HazelBite · 14/03/2016 11:50

I have just bought DS1 (for his 35th Birthday) the Ferrari F40. He will love it!

TruJay · 14/03/2016 13:25

dynevoran lovely, thank you. I seen smaller ones but yours is just fab, may have to have a go myself.

Em7 · 14/03/2016 15:15

Definitely therapeutic- a friend does just this. It's no different to adult colouring books/any other Art as a distraction from everyday life. Go for it! What will you choose?

vikjul · 14/03/2016 18:52

I love lego and playmobil, but to my disappointment my dcs never ask for any Impressive sets, they prefer to reuse what they already have. I have been eyeing the modular sets but never bought any...until, inspired by this thread, I ordered the Medieval Market Village for myself yesterday! Very excited! (And I may ask for the Parisian restaurant for my birthday...)

ProvisionallyAnxious · 14/03/2016 19:06

Ooh, vijkul, where did you get it from? As far as I can tell it's not in stock at the Lego shop (UK)...

vikjul · 14/03/2016 19:40

From ebay (uk). Not cheap though!

ijustwannadance · 14/03/2016 19:50

Medieval Market was retired years ago. Great set.

ArriettyMatilda · 15/03/2016 00:25

I wish I had more time to build with lego! I started off my collection as an adult after playing with dds Duplo. I had forgotten how much I'd loved it. Yanbu. Please tell us what set you end up buying.

HerRoyalNotness · 15/03/2016 00:35

I have he medieval market still sealed in box, just waiting. I got the DC the entire kingdoms range, live that series. Have just finished rebuilding it all for "them"

HerRoyalNotness · 15/03/2016 00:37

I actually have 3 tea chests full of unopened Lego, either bought in sales or double VIP point offers. Have started collecting the Disney princess range too, they are so lovely.

HerRoyalNotness · 15/03/2016 21:38

Here is an easy display for minifigs, no cutting, glueing or building required

Ribba frame from ikea (I used the 'memory' style or you can dispose of the glass)
Grey base plate
Lego 1x2 bricks, place them on the 7th dot in. This holds the base plate in the frame
Use the minifig black base plate to attach onto the grey baseplate. They fit perfectly between the dots

to buy myself my own Lego?
VimFuego101 · 16/03/2016 18:20

That frame is a really clever idea. I made DS a Lego table out of an IKEA Lack table and 4 baseboards glued onto it.

HerRoyalNotness · 16/03/2016 22:09

Our Lego table is 3 trofasts, with base plates fixed with double sided tape, and then has the storage underneath in the bins
