to buy myself my own Lego?

May sound a bit silly, but would it be unreasonable to buy myself a really complicated Lego to do? And nope, my kids can't use it!

YANBU at all.

I have several modulate, UCS R2D2, wall:e, the doctor who set, the ideas birds set and the Ecto:1 all waiting to be built (major building works going on atm so no space for Lego.)

My dc have their own Lego - they don't get their hands on mine!

PandasRock · 13/03/2016 10:44

Grr, several *modulars

I also cover the Temple of Airjitzu, the Ferris Wheel and the new architecture skyline range.

My name is PandasRock, and I have a Lego habit.

Stickerrocks · 13/03/2016 10:49

DH has the Ghostbusters Fire Station and Technic Mercedes Benz truck lurking in their boxes in our hall. This thread has made me take a look at the Lego Shop again to check if there are any new Ideas sets out.

PandasRock · 13/03/2016 11:06

The next Ideas project is the buildable labyrinth/maze I think. Should be released now/soon.

There is a book coming out soon, by the person who did the ideas birds set, with lots more birds to build. Can't wait Grin

ijustwannadance · 13/03/2016 11:50

PandasRock you should come round to my house. You wont be offerered any alcohol, tea or coffee but I have lots of lego Grin

scarednoob · 13/03/2016 11:55

I just bought myself a cross stitch kit and a really nice box of professional pencil crayons and a colouring book. I can't sew and I am shit at art. If you want to do something* for fun, do it!

  • disclaimer does not include drugs or excessive alcohol Wink

Likewise, you are welcome round mine, ijust Grin

When people come round for coffee, they always end up fiddling with various bits of Lego models sitting around!

trufflehunterthebadger · 13/03/2016 12:09

have you seen this amazing project ? it's gained support so quickly that i hope it has a good chance of getting on the shelves next year :) cos i really want it !!

PandasRock · 13/03/2016 12:11

That is really cool. There are so many great Ideas projects out there Smile

Kitsandkids · 13/03/2016 13:23

My mum bought my husband an aeroplane Lego set a couple of Christmasses ago. He made it and put it out of reach of the children (who have loads of their own Lego). The other day my 8 year old said, 'I don't know why we can't have it. He never even plays with it!'

I was never into Lego as a child but a few years ago when the Harry Potter sets were out I really wanted them!

redexpat · 13/03/2016 13:28

David Beckam bought himself the taj Mahal set.

KayKayKK · 13/03/2016 14:03

It's the tower bridge I wanted! (That's what I had in my head when I made this thread)

I had the Harry Potter when I was in my teens!

Do they still do it? I gave it away ages ago, I'd love to do it properly

I am totally wishing I was coming round your respective gaffs for a Lego play date

Currently pregnant with our first, if we're lucky enough for this one to stick then we are already seriously excited about future Lego opportunities Grin

mrskim123 · 13/03/2016 14:41

I loved Lego as a child and I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hasn't really grown out of it (I'm 60 plus). I was given a small Lego present at Christmas but found the Santa/snowman too complicated so made a lovely little house instead. I shan't be dismantling it any time soon.

TruJay · 13/03/2016 16:19

dynevoran your mini figures frame is amazing. Can I ask? Did you glue the white bricks to the backing in the frame?
We're due to redecorate ds's room and he's wanting a Lego room, a frame like that would look amazing.
He already has some of those IKEA picture shelves with his figures on at the moment

ijustwannadance · 13/03/2016 16:59

KayKayKK I can't believe you gave away the harry potter sets. They are worth £££'s now. I would love all the various hogwarts sets to put together to make one giant castle.

KayKayKK · 13/03/2016 17:10

Are they really!?

I had Privet Drive house

Hogwarts Castle

Hagrid's Hut,etc.

My DSS is moving in with us when we move in a few months and bringing boxes and boxes of Lego that has been stored on bags of colour not set!
I feel I should be embarrassed that as a mid thirties woman who is about to have a baby I consider that a massively exciting OCD sorting challenge that I can't wait to start!

(I'm not embarrassed and DSS knows I only love him for his Lego collection muahahaha!!!!)

ProvisionallyAnxious · 13/03/2016 17:21

YANBU. YANBU. YANBU.

Grin

I am a complete and self-confessed AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO). I have a TARDIS, Orthanc, Louvre, Trevi Fountain, Mini Cooper, and have just acquired an Ewok Village. For me the real fun is not just in building the sets but in taking them apart and making something new with them!

I also peruse various LEGO-based blogs, e.g. Brick Blogger and Brothers Brick, which showcase some of the absolute artistry that adult LEGO builders are capable of. I can but aspire!

It is so fun and so soothing and I really don't care if it makes me an eccentric mad woman to collect and play with LEGO as a 'grown-up'. Grin

Also, if you do find after building Tower Bridge that you'd like to branch out and do your own builds, Tower Bridge is an absolutely amazing set in terms of price to part ratio - very good value for money! Wink

Floralnomad · 13/03/2016 18:06

Utter madness giving Lego away ,most of it appreciates in value ,the Eiffel Tower like mine goes for about £530 used on eBay, I think it was about £150 when we bought it new .

ijustwannadance · 13/03/2016 18:22

Some sets may need to be specifically mentioned on home insurance particulars. Like expensive jewellery items. Grin

HerRoyalNotness · 13/03/2016 18:37

Id love the ewok village.

That modular construction is amazing! I hope it gets Built.

For summer there is a really neat camper van coming out, it's part of the 3 in 1 series, but i think I'd leave it setup as the camper all the time.

The way Lego wins, and sets appreciate is they have I think, a 3yr span of when they're issued. Then that's it. Never, ever get rid of lego and keep the boxes! You can store them flat. If you're not playing with a set or are sick of it, store it safely in the loft. or send them our way

ijustwannadance · 13/03/2016 19:21

I've only kept boxes for the bigger creator/winter village/Ideas sets. Boxes for the lego friends stuff are binned as their boxes don't make much difference if sold and even flat I'd have no room for them.

LyndaNotLinda · 13/03/2016 19:36

Well that camper van is new to me and I really want a real one. So this one and some minifigs of me, DS and the dog might be the way forward.

In the middle of the night, I realised that our (finished but not massively accessible) attic room could become my lego space.

HerRoyalNotness · 13/03/2016 19:41
