To think changing bedsheets once a week is ott

Another week has whizzed past, feels like yesterday I changed all the beds. They look and smell fine, surely if I only change beds once every 2 weeks we will still all survive. I could spend 30 minutes with my feet up drinking tea once in a while. Aibu?

I line dry whenever possible and put them straight back on the bed, tumble dry and do the same in winter, the creases soon go, but I don't care if they look a bit crumpled TBH.

Gabilan · 12/03/2016 19:21

I don't tumble dry. I put them on a rack and pull the worst creases out. I don't care if they look a bit crumpled.

tobysmum77 · 12/03/2016 19:24

Have not RTFT but those who don't iron bedsheets may I please ask what you do to stop them looking like crap? I tend to buy 100% cotton with high thread count but even after a tumble dry it all looks like it's been crimped 80's stylie. Do you all buy polycotton or am I missing a trick?

I just put up with them looking like crap because I just quite simply cba to iron then (and dh would be Confused at the concept). In a couple of days you can barely tell anyway.

Themodernuriahheep · 12/03/2016 19:36

Gwen, no sweat doesn't kill you but sleeping in soaking sheets can leave you feeling v achy. If you have a fever you don't want to add that as well.

Postchildrenpregranny · 12/03/2016 21:15

Is there a correlation betwen having white bed linen (which I find astonishing if you share your bed with a man) and changing it more than weekly ?

honeyroar · 12/03/2016 22:03

I either line dry sheets in summer, or shake out creases and pop them over the radiators in winter, gets them pretty nice and flat. I hate ironing sheets, I end up with them more creased. I'd only do it if DH had crumpled them up dry in the laundry basket and someone was coming to stay!

millimat · 12/03/2016 22:13

Love these threads!
I'm v jealous at the poster a few pages back who has a laundry room and 4 alters in there!! I think I live in a different country to the majority who put them on a line. Summer yes, but otherwise they're on the line, don't totally dry then requires a few more minutes rearranging then around the house so it resembles widow twankys laundry!
I'm going to time myself tomorrow.
I try not to iron than but always gives in as they're so much nicer when ironed. I fold the king size duvet in half so it can fit across the ironing board.

MissRabbitHasTooManyJobs · 12/03/2016 22:14

I couldn't cope with white bed linen! Id be doing it dailyGrin

ChicChantal · 12/03/2016 22:21

Mostly I do mine every week but it doesn't kill me if they're left for two weeks. I remember a friend from school who was working abroad, swore her OH hadn't changed the sheets in the 13 weeks she'd been away, which is overdoing it a bit . . .

honeyroar · 12/03/2016 22:24

I have one friend who changes them daily for the whole family. She is obsessed about cleaning and pets only in kitchens etc. She is very polite when she comes to our dusty, half renovated, full of pets house, but I imagine her going home and bathing in hibiscrub when she gets home (disinfectant they use in operating theatres).

EssentialHummus · 12/03/2016 22:26

Oh god, the quantities of laundry!

MitzyLeFrouf · 12/03/2016 22:29

I'm not being flippant when I say this but someone who has to change bed sheets daily definitely sounds like they have issues.

MissRabbitHasTooManyJobs · 12/03/2016 22:30

Thank god there's someone worse than me! Daily for everyone?
Feel like a complete slattern now...

Believeitornot · 12/03/2016 22:34

The only time I've ironed bedding is when we were making the house nice so we could sell the fucker

I discovered tumble dryer sheets which help reduce creasing. Or ironing when the bed is made (so only doing it for show)

Now we've sold I can get back to my creased bedding.

But I wash once a week. Any less and it is grim.

SimonLeBonOnAndOn · 12/03/2016 22:38

What's the difference between 7 days and 8 days?

squishee · 12/03/2016 23:56

DP and I change our sheets every few shags Grin

notonyurjellybellynelly · 13/03/2016 03:14

My son has issues but not in the derogatory sense your post would imply. He in fact has huge issues as explained in my post about changing bed sheets daily.

As for me? Well I get night sweats and changing my sheets daily and making sure I have a lovely bed to get into to makes getting into bed at night a much nicer experience. I do it because I can.

Gabilan · 13/03/2016 08:43

I appreciate that some people have good reasons to change sheets daily. However, practically it would be a nightmare for me both because of the expense and the practicalities. The days that are warm enough to dry stuff outside, the swallows are back. Beautiful birds but they make a mess of your laundry. I don't have a tumble dryer and for environmental reasons don't want one.

Guess it's good the once a year brigade are saving the planet for us Grin

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 13/03/2016 10:06

Thanks for the tips Smile My DM used to iron them on the bed which seems a tad OTT to my slatternly eyes. I shall peg them outdoors stretched to within an inch of their lives!

limitedperiodonly · 13/03/2016 12:01

I finish off duvet covers by ironing them on the bed Blush. It looks so nice and takes a couple of minutes. Under that veneer of housewifely pride, I am a slut. I change them every two weeks though. Maybe three Blush

TheCrumpettyTree · 13/03/2016 12:02

It may take five minutes in theory to strip the bed and five minutes to load the washing machine etc. But not when you have two small children who want my attention constantly and follow me around. Housework takes ages. An hour to have a cup of tea while the washing is on? That would be lovely thanks.

LeaLeander · 13/03/2016 13:27

I know plenty of people with small children who nevertheless change sheets weekly.

TheCrumpettyTree · 13/03/2016 13:38

Well good for them, give them a fucking medal.

limitedperiodonly · 13/03/2016 14:07

I bought a new mattress in January. I spent a lot of money and it's proper lovely. It came with a 'Calming Mist' to spray on it to give me 'better sleep, for longer.'

WTF?

The only chemicals I want to ensure me better sleep for longer are general anaesthetics used under proper medical supervision. Anything else makes me think of date rape.

Gabilan · 13/03/2016 14:27

I don't even change the sheets if the cats are on the bed. I get the death stare from something that's basically a small puma. They don't like me vacuuming either.
