Wearing slippers at work

I work in a large, open-plan office with lots of different teams working next to each other. Noticed today that someone at a nearby hot desk is wearing big, fluffy, animal print slippers. AIBU to think that's not the done thing to wear at work?
I'm trying to be light-hearted here, I know that what colleagues wear is none of my business, but I'm nosey curious!

I used to wear heels to work, but keep some little silk and bamboo slippers under my desk that I'd secretly slip on. I'd always switch back to shoes when leaving my desk though.

City law firm though. Not exactly relaxed on the whole appearance front.

What a good idea.

I can't imagine wearing slippers to work, most odd. Maybe you should just ask her? Lol, I'd be dying of curiosity 😂

I keep comfy ballet flats in a bag at work. If I'm having an office day I'll pop them on, slippers sound more appealing- can't see my boss agreeing.

I used to wear slippers at work! It's lovely. Nice pair of wedges on when with the public, then when I retreated and had a break, I'd put my slippers on and have a cup of tea. Home from home. Not as bad as the colleague who came to work with different shoes (from different pairs) on each foot. That was most excellent.

Is it a customer-facing role or one that involves schmoozing clients or meeting stakeholders/trustees? If so, YANBU.

If not, I reckon you can wear what you want. I wouldn't wear slippers personally, as to me slippers are for wearing at home and relaxing! I don't think I'd feel very sharp-brained in slippers at work!

We have to wear work suitable footwear unless given special permission by management. Flip flops, open toes sandals, slippers and trainers are all barred as are stilettos and those heelless wedge platforms. They cite health and safety.

Exceptions are foot issues, joint problems, raynauds, or snow (expectation is you have smart shoes for in the office and sensible to leave in)

Slippers are a damn sight better than barefoot - socks/barefeet are not ok to wear in work unless you work alone Shock I bet those who wear just socks in work are the same people who think its ok to take their shoes off on a plane, those people make me ragey, bleugh!

PippaPug · 08/03/2016 23:07

Why is it a problem to take your shoes off on a plane ESP if it's long haul?!

TiredButFineODFOJ · 08/03/2016 23:45

I have "office slippers" those fake ugg type ones that cost about £5, black so not very noticable under trousers or with tights. Keeps my feet lovely and toasty on cold days they do!

Because its public transport not your house and it's manky. I can just about get over the people who discreetly slip them off and you'd hardly notice under their seat but the ones who walk around or put their feet up and treat it like their private jet are really manky/inconsiderate/selfish
