Thank you for this thread! Reminded me how much I love 'em and have booked my tickets to Rewind. Can't wait!

pinkdelight · 07/03/2016 09:05

PS: Sure he won't sing it, but I loved the Crackers International EP, esp The Hardest Part. Gorgeous voice.

NellyTimes · 07/03/2016 09:34

Yes Gaudete is brilliant! She Won't Be Home from Crackers International is another of my most favourite Christmas songs.

rugbychick · 07/03/2016 09:53

I love Erasure too. Very underrated

clockbuscanada · 07/03/2016 11:30

Ha ha yes stitch, if Erasure was my specialist subject on Mastermind I would win hands down on random useless facts. I'm not sure which other songs they recorded in foreign language, but Amor y Odio helped me through my Spanish GCSE revision back in the day.

Andy Bell's page on facebook is worth a follow.

I'm going to dig out my vinyl when I get home, I have a gorgeous pop up sleeve version of one of their albums which is a thing of beauty and inspired me to make random pop up cards and sculptures for about three years after it came out until someone had serious words with me about how naff it was and I stopped

squoosh · 07/03/2016 11:52

'Bluuuuuuuuuuuuuuue Savannah song' makes me so happy.

And if the opening bars of Respect don't get you charging to the dancefloor, well have someone check you're still alive!

LaConnerie · 07/03/2016 12:01

Ooh I love Erasure now - I have them on my running playlist.

Back in the day I looked right down my alternative nose at them, which makes me wonder if I had bad taste then, or now, or if I'm just turning into a sad old fart who likes to pretend everything was good when I was a teenager Grin

timemaychangeme · 07/03/2016 12:11

YANBU. They were really good.

I think Ship of Fools is my favourite.

Cass168 · 07/03/2016 13:25

YANBU I missed them at their peak but they've got some cracking catchy tunes. Andy Bell was on radio 2 last week and seems lovely. I remember reading an interview with him in the NME in the nineties and it was so full of bonkers rock star soundbites* I instantly liked him despite not knowing (at that time) any of their hits.
*Which I can't remember any of! Stuff like "animals are closer to God than we are". My teenage self loved it.

Treats · 07/03/2016 13:28

I was in the video for Fingers and Thumbs (Cold Summer's Day)

Do I win?

LagunaBubbles · 07/03/2016 13:31

Oh I love you with all the joys of living 'till the lights go down in New York City

Oh I loved You Surround Me! My best friend even had it as her first dance song at her wedding.

Cant remember which tour it was but it must have been around one Christmas time as one of my favourite costumes was Andy in a skin tight leotard and a very strategic placed bit of tinsel! Grin

ThorsLady · 07/03/2016 13:38

Ohhhh l'amour, broke my heart and now I'm aching for youuuu!!!

So, SO underrated.

squoosh · 07/03/2016 13:41

Treats you most definitely win!

squoosh · 07/03/2016 13:42

You know that was Dollar don't you Thors? I do secretly love that song though!

LaConnerie · 07/03/2016 14:29

Erasure did a cover of the song though didn't they? I can hear them singing it in my head anyway Grin

shakeatailfeather · 07/03/2016 14:47

YADefNBU!!

I adore Erasure (and PSB). Am desperate to see both live, but its not happened yet :(

Sometimes is the first song of theirs that I liked. I have just looked it up and I was 9!! (I was a child with unusual musical tastes). West End Girls was released around the same time I think, and I loved both. The more I heard the more I liked. A Little Respect is and will always be one of my favourite songs (partly linked to some very lovely memories associated with it, but also cos its such a good song!!) Abbaesque was inspired and I Love To Hate you was amazing, and got me through a lot of secondary school badtimes!

LagunaBubbles · 07/03/2016 14:50

treats thats one of my favourite Erasure songs, not seen the video for years, something vaguely tells me it was at a fairground maybe?? Anyway you win! Grin

Hrafnkel · 07/03/2016 14:57

Love erasure. Drama most of all. Love all electro, particularly goldfrapp and think erasure were ahead of their time.

JadziaSnax · 07/03/2016 15:49

YANBU. I love love love Erasure. I was 17 the first time I saw them, then I saw them a few years ago in Cannock, they are fabulous live.

I was also a PSB fan in my teens.

Treats · 07/03/2016 17:11

Oh L"amour was erasure's song - dollar covered it but their version was a bigger hit.

Yes, the video was in a fairground. Happy memories of the waltzer and the big wheel.

squoosh · 07/03/2016 17:40

I apologise Thors. I thought Oh L'amour was all down to Dollar. Blush

As if creepy David Van Day could write such a catchy tune.

MustBeThursday · 07/03/2016 17:45

I love Erasure, I have them on my ipod. My stepdad introduced me to them when I was about 9, and I still love listening and singing along to them nearly 20 years on. Definitely underrated - I remember being very pleased but surprised when my university housemate had not only heard of them but was also a fan Grin

MargotLovedTom · 07/03/2016 17:51

David van Day couldn't write a shopping list. Mirror Mirror was also massively catchy and was written by Trevor Horn.

AuldAlliance · 07/03/2016 17:53

YADNBU
I recently rediscovered them thanks to YouTube and relived my secondary school years.

Their lyrics are deceptively simple, v cleverly done.

"She won't be home" was my favourite Christmas song ever.

Ludways · 07/03/2016 18:23

I was never much of s fan when they were big but I bought do tickets to see them s couple of years ago, they were fantastic. They're in the top 5 live acts I've seen DBC I've seen loads!
