Seen live twice. Brilliant - v underrated.

Andy Bell's costumes were so outrageous and fun.

Great pop songs

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 06/03/2016 20:15

YANBU. They deserve more than a little respect.

DramaAlpaca · 06/03/2016 20:26

I still listen to them often.

I love their version of Abba's Take a Chance on Me with the rap section in the middle.

blackistheneworange · 06/03/2016 20:36

Depeche Mode were my favourite band ever. I loved Yazoo too, although for some reason in my teens I remember not wanting to like Erasure as I believed Vince Clarke had "done the dirty" on DM by leaving them after Speak and Spell lol. Have seen DM a fair few times, and saw Alison Moyet last year, she's still fabulous (and looking better now than she has ever done).

OMGBabyNo3 · 06/03/2016 20:44

Just been over to iTunes and bought a few songs purely on the back of this thread!! Are you Vince Clarke?!?! Loooovvveeee Drama and forgotten all about it. Putting on repeat now!

Gatehouse77 · 06/03/2016 21:26

Bearbehind I was at that (or one of the dates there).

I remember the fantastic costumes, Andy Bell wearing an aeroplane or somesuch and the amazing buzz and atmosphere.

ihateminecraft · 06/03/2016 21:36

Abba-esque! Loved them, saw them 3 times!

SkyWasMadeOfAmethyst · 06/03/2016 21:42

Heard "A little respect" on radio 6 last week and was really into it (again)!

YADNBU!

PrimalLass · 06/03/2016 21:45

I loved Erasure. They were the playlist of our late teens drinking sessions.

Bambalina · 06/03/2016 23:04

Thank you, now listening to on spotify, needed something different today! I grew up listening to these thanks to my sister.
Can't believe I know ALL the words. I never know words to songs

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 06/03/2016 23:13

grabs mike
Bluuuueeeeeeeeeee Savannah Song oh oh oh
Bluuuueeeeeeeeeee Savannah Song
Wink Grin

I also liked Love to hate you. And Respect reminds me of Scrubs. Nurse, erasure! m.youtube.com/?gl=DE#/watch?v=NykOJ0Wkp-o
Depeche Mode: Love blasphemous rumours, see you, question of lust, WRONG! and enjoy the silence.
Yazoo: Nobody's diary. Still sounds wonderful.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 06/03/2016 23:20

Alison Motet 2015 Berlin
Cannot believe that song is 33 years old

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 06/03/2016 23:21

Moyet
Stupid auto correct

ToastedOrFresh · 06/03/2016 23:29

Hermione - "Don't ever let me take you for granted/you've got your fingers on the pulse of my soul/ let me place a kiss in the small of your back/ love and protect you from the evil in this world"

If love wasn't here wouldn't we invent it ? Oh take me down to the very root of your soul. Oh baby say it as if you really mean it, and let the passion work it's way up through your skin.

Oh I love you with all the joys of living 'till the lights go down in New York City.

Until I'm lost and found and you surround me.

Wonderful lyrics. A lot of those songs seem tell the story of my relationship with my husband, how we met and how we felt.

CocktailQueen · 06/03/2016 23:33

Love Erasure! Saw them in Cambridge and Andy Bell wore a ballgown and DMs! And saw them in Brixton... Wonderful. Love Sometimes, Ship of Fools, oh L'amour, stop, a little respect, the Abba covers - fab band!

RaphaellaTheSpanishWaterDog · 07/03/2016 00:37

Very late to the party here, but YANBU! Love Erasure, especially Piano Song & Phantom Bride!

KeyserSophie · 07/03/2016 00:44

They were great, but I think Pet Shop Boys are probably the most underrated band ever. Their lyrics were seriously awesome but in a non-wanky way.

MargotLovedTom · 07/03/2016 00:48

Spiralling.

stitchglitched · 07/03/2016 00:52

Clock I've seen that video loads, never realised it was Jason Statham! Fingers And Thumbs (Cold Summer's Day) was another great song, his voice is amazing in it.

IPityThePontipines · 07/03/2016 01:00

OP - YANBU about Erasure. I think because they don't portray themselves as "Suffering Serious Musos", they don't get the critical acclaim they deserve.

I would agree with Vince Clark being a fantastic songwriter.

However:

"Erasure were better than Sparks"

Nay!!! Sparks were/are true innovators, who paved the way for Erasure and many others.

mammmamia · 07/03/2016 01:16

Yanbu! Going to listen on spotify tomorrow

xenapants · 07/03/2016 02:46

I agree with you OP, but their version of Solsbury Hill was a bloody abomination.

FrikkaDilla · 07/03/2016 02:50

You're going to like this OP. :)

HoneyHoney10 · 07/03/2016 07:57

Dp and I drove to france last year and i'd downloaded Erasure and a few others to take with us.

Dp raised his eyes at me with erasure but by the time we got to birmingham we were belting every single song out. Got to be give a little respect thats my fave though.

Erasure and Deacon blue are up there with greatest songs to sing to in the car Smile

Branleuse · 07/03/2016 08:05

I love their version of gaudete. Its one of my fave xmas songs
