to ask how many threads you've started?

I think I must have started about a hundred. This is why I'm a serial namechanger - I always think that you'll all be saying "oh god, not her again. Hasn't she got any friends to talk to?"

So, over the years, in chat, AIBU, education, relationships, health etc etc etc, including ALL your name changes (and all those "long time lurker, first time poster" oh yes, as if ) ...... be honest. How many threads have you started?

Ooh, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one then! This current nomenclature has lasted the longest, but I namechanged the other day to "DentistWimp" to have a weep about failed root canal. The NC seemed appropriate under the circumstances Sad.

Sorry, it's not mansplaining just because I'm a man and I'm disagreeing. I've stated my own observations, and it's perfectly reasonable to ask for some justification from those who disagree with me.

I've just trawled through a dozen or so threads on AIBU, found four where the OP had one or more of a typo, an apostrophe error, a spelling error or lack of capitals. I couldn't see anyone picking up on these errors. They were too busy offering the OP advice or arguing back on the subject!

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 03/03/2016 22:56

Dad well just one example was mine when first joined under different name. There have been many over the past.

I have so much to say here and in RL but I lack the skill of being articulate so I tend to stay silent.

katemiddletonsothermum · 03/03/2016 22:58

Come here for a hug IgnoreMe - you'll always have a voice on Mumsnet. Most of us have autocorrect fails when we Mumsnet on our phones.

IgnoreMe - if it felt like I was dismissing your claim, then I apologise. It's clearly a concern if people refrain from posting because they think others will jump on their English. But I do still think that is more down to a very few language critics creating that perception rather than it being the widespread reality.

I just tried googling "should of" site:www.mumsnet.com (exactly that with the quotes) to dig out some examples. Some threads even have "should of" in the title and are littered with poor punctuation and spelling errors. On some threads, I see one poster point out "it's should HAVE", but everyone else ignores it (so I was wrong to think that it doesn't happen at all). On many other threads, I see it left unmentioned.

I really do believe that most MNers are not interested in correcting others' language, even if they notice the errors.

I've been on mnet nearly ten years, on and off, and I reckon I've started less than ten threads. I'm just not brave enough Grin

Kr1stina · 04/03/2016 00:15

About 40 . But I've been here a long time

trichyyy · 04/03/2016 18:03

Dad IF it felt like I was dismissing your claim

^^^

AKA

"I'm sorry IF you were offended by what I said"

IF indeed.

Doubledeckers · 04/03/2016 18:06

None

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 04/03/2016 18:50

apparently 26, some of which got no response at all, a few I was trying to be amusing and failed so got little response and a couple that were brief questions that got me a perfectly adequate and useful response, a couple got me very very useful information. in particular one asking for NZ tips and hints that gave DH some excellent birdwatching sites that we visited.... thanks NZ MN's

katemiddletonsothermum · 04/03/2016 18:53

Blimey, which ones got you no responses at all? That's quite impressive! Wink

LetTilikumGo · 04/03/2016 19:01

I've only started one, a specific question on the SN boards.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/03/2016 19:07

Posted my first one today now worrying about grammar

invisiblegorilla · 04/03/2016 19:15

A dozen at most, I reckon. I must have almost started ten times more than that, but a lot of the time I can't think of a proper way to word the title or end up worrying that no one would be interested, and close the window!

LifeofI · 04/03/2016 19:27

around 4 or something but i had an old account last year which i forgot the name i think it got erased when the site got hacked and i had around 8 or something started on that.

And people do insult for grammar i get it all the time, not that i care, i come on here sometimes on my phone or im just typing quickly and cannot be bothered, i mean it isnt an english lesson is it? and im good at maths which is the same in every country so i win lol Grin

katemiddletonsothermum · 04/03/2016 21:14

HI life I see you have zero use of the apostrophe there. Tsk Tsk honestly I dont knkow how you can cum on musnetset and post who does you wot think you is innit?

OP posts:
DadDadDad · 04/03/2016 21:27

You think grammar police are a problem? You should try my experience of saying sorry to another poster and watch how a third person comes along to pick apart your apology! Confused. Welcome to AIBU. Smile

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 04/03/2016 21:35

Oh lots. I go through pahses of starting them probably 70 plus, I've been here since mid 09, I've nc a fair few times & then had to create a whole new account with this name as I couldn't remember any of my old details.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 05/03/2016 12:42

just checked and there were 6 ... yes SIX unanswered, tbf 3 were thanks to a MN who had recommended something that I had tried and liked so did not need a response but the other 3 were asking for help with a hair colour question, a lipstick question and some other S&B question, come to think of it they were all on S&B... bunch of cunts non responsive MN's

katemiddletonsothermum · 05/03/2016 13:14

Oh yes, S&B - that explains it. Unless you start a thread about the most godawful shoes in the world....

OP posts:
magimedi · 05/03/2016 13:18

Been here about four years & have started 34!!

But, at least half of them were to draw attention to Kindle Deal of the day & many of the rest are in the Stop Smoking threads.

Jojoanna · 05/03/2016 13:18

Probably about 6.
