AIBU regarding a card

Since discovering MN it really has become a moral compass. This has been on my mind for weeks now and only because I've been awake since 2am I thought I'd ask a wider audience.

I'm have DC1 someday soon. I get that people are excited and I'm pleased for them. However, BIL has already bought, written and given us a card congratulating us on the birth. This was weeks ago.

It made me feel really uneasy a) because they aren't here safely yet b) they don't know what we've named it, what it looks like or anything and c) it feels very hollow to make platitudes like that.

Am I being unreasonable to feel like that? (I have actually refused to bring it home. It has been a very anxious time and it has made me feel really uneasy which is completely stupid, but I'm blaming hormones). I haven't said anything, just sat stewing on it.

It's very bizarre behaviour.

I got a loads of clothes before the birth of my first baby from my XH's aunt. Fine - people do send clothes early I guess.
But they were all in blue with a letter saying 'I have made everything blue to try to make sure you have a boy, we "all" want a boy to carry on the family name'

Most odd - the sex of the baby was by this time already established and I doubt the psychic power of matinee jackets could have changed it.

Also the 'family' name is an extremely common one - think along the lines of Turner or Jackson - hardly likely to die out if I didn't produce a male 'heir'

As it happened I had a boy so she felt she had been the person who made the difference with her blueness. (If it had been a girl obviously the blue clothes would have been just as warm and wouldn't have turned her into a boy, but maybe if I'd let the family down in the boy baby producing department the aunt would have asked for them back Grin)
